How to unlock the Tank Beats Everything achievement in Halo: Reach - Definitive Guide

This achievement isn't too hard to get, it will just require some patience. Start up the mission from the beginning and make sure you get the hold of a Fuel Rod Gun and a DMR or a Needle Rifle.
When you get to the tank, don't enter it at once. Scout the area and take out platforms with your Fuel Rod Gun and Grunts with your marksman rifle. When ghosts starts to appear, run back to your tank and finish them of. When you get to the AA guns, leave your tank a little bit behind and go in on foot. The last area is a little bit tricky since there are two Fuel Rod turrets, Two plasma turrets and two Revenants there. But as long as you learn where they are located, it should be fine since they can't take more then one shot from the tank.

Drive slowly through the mission, and scout on foot before you roll in with the tank. I got this on my first try on Legendary, so if you are patient enough and don't let any turrets or Ghosts shoot you, you should be fine. I also think this can be done in co-op, but if you are going to do it alone, this is probably the best way of getting it.

I believe the Turrets and Revenants are on a random spawn as a note. Taking the advice from this guide when I rounded the corner onto the final field i encountered --ONE-- Fuel Rod Turret, which was right at the entrance and was taken out right away, there was then the FIRST Revenant right around the very first corner entering the field, easy pick off. In the far back there was --ONE-- Plasma Turret and the second Revenant, long shot distance taken both out. I then followed the path and came across a close call Plasma Turret -TWO- turned and fired taking it out and got the checkpoint and cruised to the next section. My achievement popped and then as a "OH HI" greeting the third Revenant was guarding the entrance, but the achievement had already popped so I wouldn't count him.

In closing I encountered
Fuel Rod Turret - 1
Plasma Turret - 2
Revenant - 2 (and a third after the achievement already popped)

Anyone know if you have to complete the entire stage to get this achievement? There are a few other achievements that are "Do this and complete the stage" and you get the achievement when you reach the furthest part involved.

For instance "They've always been faster." You get this achievement not at the end of the stage, but at the last area that a vehicle could travel.

Just confirmed that you only need to reach the entrance to the Oni sword base. You don't even have to kill the last Revenant there.

@paynexkiller666: On my playthrough there was no third Revenant. Just to make sure this guide was correct, I watched my playthrough in Theater, and there was only the turrets and the Revenants I mentioned. Pherhaps the spawns are a little bit random?

@LAFTA: Yes you can. At least it worked for a friend of mine.

Thanks for the positive votes! :D

@AcH Clawed - There has always been a third revenant on my playthroughs, same as paynexkiller666's, but it's always been right in front of the sword base. Before you even come in firing range of this revenant though you should already get the achievement. So don't let paynexkiller666 get ya down!

I found it very easy to stick back a little and take out the AA guns with the tank. Saved on ammo and the pain of getting shot to bits.

I agrre with Kinesis916. It's alot easier to just destroy the AA guns with the tank. Just fire at the gun part and it should go down with relative ease.

So I am doing legendary alone. I am almost 100% sure that the tank was still intact when I entered the base. I abandoned it because I knew the turrets would rip the tank to shreds. I did not die, I just took a long time. Anywho, I finished the mission, and only the complate mission achievement popped. Am I gonna have to redo it?

Why do people rage on these threads? Silly cunts.

Anyway, great guide! I got it in the first roll through no problem (on legendary). You really do need to be patient, and pick any and all targets off on foot if you can.

I went through the mission very cautiously, finishing a checkpoint by using the revenant, and returning to grab the scorpion. I ditched the tank just before the last open area just before you go up the hill to the gate and cleared the area with the revenant and went through without going back for the tank and bringing it to the gate. No cheevo, sad to say. I am 100% positive it lasted, I just didn't drive it ALLLL the way.

Can you get into the tank near the beginning of where the tank is, then leave it for something else(say a revenant) and then once you finish clearing out the rest of the level, head back to the tank and drive it up to where it's supposed to be to get the achievement to pop?

I've played that mission 6 different times in my first profile, 3 different times in my second and only once in this one all on Legendary and I'm not patient so I went through the entire thing without using the tank and I still didn't get the achievement, so how does that work exactly because leaving the tank behind is the equivalent of not damaging it isn't it? (Of course I'm guessing you have to actually use it to get the achievement though don't you?)

This is a bit misleading. You do not have to finish the mission to get it, you just have to drive the tank, not blown up into the "parking space" that is the entrance to Sword Base where you got the orbital gun earlier in the game. If you (as I did) leave the tank where you found it and go on to finish the mission without bringing it to the gate, you will not get the achievement.

I just managed to get this achievement and did it with a minimum of fuss. You obtain the Scorpion shortly after the first "engagement" area of Level 9. In this first area, there are two Shade Turrets, two Ghosts, several Grunts with Fuel Rod Cannons, and a Jackal or two with beam rifles. Dispatching these initial enemies can take a bit of time, but once killed, I would highly recommend hanging on to your DMR and a Fuel Rod Cannon, they will make your life MUCH easier.

The best solution I have is to take it slow. Upon getting in to the Scorpion, take your time and fire from a distance. Most of the initial enemies can be taken down quite easily and you barely absorb any damage.

As you approach the AA guns, you will climb a small ridge. Before getting over the top, simply begin firing at the first gun. After a few shots, you'll start to see the flame plumage occur, indicating that the AA gun is taking damage. A few more shots finishes them off, as well as any enemies that were inside. Repeat this process for the second AA gun.

After the AA guns are taken out, several Banshees begin to fly in your general area. Again, stay back, take it slow, and take them out one-by-one.

Once the Banshees are dispatched, you roll up a short lane that begins to rise into a hill. At the top of the hill there is a levitating sniper platform (easily taken out by your Scorpion) and a few Ghosts with pilots (Grunts and Elites, I believe). Again, go slow, and take out the Ghosts one by one so that they don't gang up on you.

After clearing the small encampment, the REAL challenge begins.

Directly after the area with the sniper platform and Ghosts, there is a massive killzone area, featuring several Shade turrets (both heavy ones that fire Fuel Cannon Rods and smaller ones which fire plasma rifles) as well as few Ghosts and a few Revenants. These enemies WILL toast you if you are not careful.

Like many of the other solution artists, I found the best way to deal with these enemies is to hop out of the Scorpion and scout targets on foot using the scope on my DMR. Upon pinpointing where the target is located, hop back in the Scorpion, carefully line up you shot, and blow it away. The only enemy that I had problems with was the Fuel Rod Cannon Shade that is mounted high and to the left as you round the corner. I managed to take this out by plugging away at it with my DMR and launching a few Fuel Rods at it from my Fuel Rod Cannon.

(Quick "safety-blanket" here. If you do die in this kill zone, you will typically respawn with the Scorpion just before the previous area with the Sniper platform and Ghosts... just be conscious of when you hit checkpoints.)

After clearing out this very hot kill zone, begin to roll up to the door of Sword Base, but be sure to take out the final Revenant as you approach.

Good Luck!

So if you die in the scorpion and go back to check point... you don't void the achievement? if that's true you can basically go go until you die, learn from your mistake and don't die again. right?

This achievement requires that the tank get to the Bunker Doors intact. It can can be awful shape, and the turret can even be missing, but as long as it is still rolling when you get to the bunker doors you will get the achievement.

That being said, you can use other vehicle to destroy the Covenant. But you have to drive the tank personally up to the bunker doors to get the achievement.
If you need some help look at the Youtube video in JAGERMEISTER TX's guide.

To add to what "AcH Clawed" and "your fat uncle" have said above (Thank you two for your help);

Additional Co-Op information:
I can verify that all 4 members of a co-op team will get this at once. You will not need to be the driver. In addition, you may restart from last checkpoint if the tank gets destroyed, and still be able to get it. This popped for us when we got the tank to sword base (you can't take it further).

In Co-op your worst enemy (besides the fuel rod cannons) will be an awful teleport scheme for the tank driver in the back. make sure to take out as many of the revenants/cannons/turrets before anyone gets more than halfway down the last hill. Our tank driver teleported to the bottom of the hill when we got close and was instantly destroyed by cannons before he could get his bearings.

FYI on 4 player the final bit (after you destroy the two giant anti-aircraft guns) had 3 ghosts and a sniper nest with a fuel rod grunt followed by two fuel rod cannons, two turrets and 3 revenants. fun-fun-fun.

Did this with minimal effort, simply take out the turret controllers and keep the tank a few paces behind, i used it only to kill the covenant vehicles that appeared and i think for one of the turrets on the last area, just make sure to take out the green blob shooting turrets without the tank first (forget the name of them!)

I found it easiest to do this by myself since if the tank blows up it automatically sends you to the last checkpoint.
The first time i got this was on my run for solo legendary. I got it to the last battle (where there are two revenets and multiple turrets) and got out at the bottom of the hill and got out to kill the guys at the top of the hill. Don't do this just drive the tank up because you will not get it!
The second time I got it no problem, just take your time and don't rush in. shoot everything you can from as far away as possible, I know it seems vague but it will work.

This guide is just clearing things up a little bit.

I got this in solo on legendary. If you stay in the tank and it blows up then you'll have to restart the checkpoint. Which is a good thing because then the tank will be ok after restarting the checkpoint. The tank had blown up a lot of times before I got to the bunker doors. The tank was still intact and I still got the achievement when I reached the doors.

I tried a different way to most. If you quite happy to drive the tank in reverse for the entire level and swivel the turret around you reduce what the enemy target. I did this solo legendary. Just taking it slow, turret first around the corners in reverse you can just blow everything apart without a care in the world. Its also a bit lazy compared to foot slogging through the level.

Hello guys !

Firstly, sorry for my poor english, I'm french

So, the achievement says "with the scorpion intact , but it's false. You just need to don't destroy the scorpion, but don't worry if it's in flame, or something like that. So you can be shoot by the enemies, that's not a problem.

Secondly, the "life" of the scorpion is showed by the life of your spartan (the shield and the life, at the top of the screen). So when your shield is restored, the life of the scorpion is even restored ! The scorpion can be in flame but have his life full. Don't care about the aspect of your scorpion, just look at your shield and your life.

All the sequence is really simple, even in Legendary. Just take care of the Banshees and the anti-aircraft who shoot green sphere (two sphere and you're dead !).

Last thing, if you're going to scoot at foot, don't go to far of your scorpion. 'cause you can't go back when you reach a checkpoint. It teleport you directly to the checkpoint if you go back to far. I think this sentence meens nothing, but I hope you can understand it ^^

Corrige me in the comment if you want, I will edit my soluce

Look at this video if you have any trouble. It's not my video, all credits goes to rabidkitty4 thanks to him !

Salut salut

You have to deliver the tank to Sword Base to get the achievement. Pretty useful tip for the ideal weapons: if you ended the mission 'New Alexandria' with a DMR, you will have the DMR in your possession with the amount of ammo you still had at the end of said mission. You can restock your ammo in one of the half-flooded buildings at the beginning of the level (it's the building on your left-hand side, there are some Grunts and an Elite here, proceed with caution), which contains a case filled with DMRs.

Update 20-11-2015: Fixed a typo and added some information.

During the 9th mission, you will see the Tank. Enter the tank and go through the level without it blowing up/becoming unusable. It is okay if it takes damage, just cannot be destroyed. Once you reach the familiar bunker, the achievement will unlock. You cannot skip the tank as the tank must reach the bunker.
