How to unlock the Weapon of Choice achievement in Halo: Spartan Assault - Definitive Guide

I am copying and editing an excellent Win 8 solution by KJT CD ACD, with his permission. The only change is that now Rocket Launcher and Spartan Laser count. Note that even if you have completed the Win 8 or WP8 version, you must redo each weapon.

The weapons you need to score kills with are as follows:

UNSC:
- Assault Rifle
- Shotgun
- Magnum
- Dual SMGs
- Sniper Rifle (bought for 1000XP or 50 CR in the pre-game lobby, sniper kills by AI marines may count, so it may not be necessary to purchase)
- Spartan Laser (bought for 1500XP or 75 CR in pre-game lobby, free redemption for completing Halo 4)
- Rocket Launcher (bought for 2000XP or 100 CR in pre-game lobby, free redemption for completing Halo 4)

Covenant:
- Plasma Repeater
- Plasma Pistol
- Needler
- Focus Rifle
- Brute Shot

The last weapon you will obtain is the Brute Shot, which does not appear until Mission D-1.

Note from MathGuy42: When I only had Rocket Launcher and Spartan Laser left, the Achievement app said I was 83% complete, leading me to believe there are 12 weapons.

I got this without using the sniper rifle. However, I did have to use the rocket launcher and the laser. Both were free unlocks because I had previously finished Halo 4.

@boxandthefuzz: Did you play any co-op? Based on a comment from the Powered by MJOLNIR solution, it could be that using any 12 different weapons works. Co-op adds Battle Rifle and Grenade Launcher, making the total number of weapons 14. So it may be possible to substitute BR and GL.

Rocket Launcher is not free, I have completed Halo 4 entirely. Seems it's glitched, and or random as to what we get for free.

Sorry to hear the Halo 4 redemption is glitchy on Xbox One. I never got the promised redemption on Win 8, but it worked for me on X1. Perhaps you need to load up Halo Waypoint on the 360 to mark your achievement milestones.

This is glitched for me, i have gotten a kill with every weapon several times including the co-op weapons and nothing. My progress tracker is full but it won't unlock for whatever reason. Also i have not played it on any windows device only the xbox one.

Sorry to hear that, WAR Psyco. Am I understanding you correctly that the Achievement app says 100%, but still shows Weapon of Choice as locked? I've not heard of that happening before.

Your best bet for a fix is probably posting in the Halo Waypoint Support forum. I've not seen this issue mentioned there.

There is now an official list of SA bugs under investigation. WAR Psyco's 100% progress bug is not mentioned yet. However, someone posted about a similar bug with Brute Force. I quoted WAR Psyco's post from the SA forum in hopes that 343i will see a pattern and fix this issue.

I've not used Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, or Spartan Laser in either this or the WP version (I've simply never spent XP yet), nor have I played co-op at all, yet my progress says 10 out of 12. Enemies have died due to sniper rifle fire from allies in my game though, so it's possible that may count, for those trying to "penny pinch" XP.

Just decided to test it, didn't ever have a sniper rifle in my own hands, but I got it just using the Spartan Laser and Rocket Launcher. I think your allies with sniper (there's a couple missions where they hold them) will actually count for you in this mission.

343 says that glitches in my case, where is says you have the achievement 100%, is a platform issue not a game issue and they are working on a fix. Hopefully it will be fixed soon

xPut Name Herex, that's a very good theory. It would explain why some people did not need to use the sniper rifle while others had the achievement unlock while using it. I'll note that kills by your AI teammates may count.

Just wanted to pop in to say that I never needed to buy the Sniper rifle. Got the achievement without it. Just had to buy the Spartan Laser and the Rocket Launcher.

Just a note on the brute shot: this popped for me after blowing up the first door using the brute shot in d-1

Just a note on the Sniper, I did have to use the sniper myself. Thanks for the solution!

Do you have to finish the mission or can you die and quit and it will still count?

Correct - you don't have to complete the mission.

Needed the sniper rile, as a note though if you exit the game before finishing the mission you get your xp back which means you only need 2000 total xp to buy all 3 of the buy-only weapons.

I don't think you have to finish the mission for the weapon to count. The challenges don't require finishing the mission, so I think this would be the same. It's been a long time though, so I'm not sure.
