How to unlock the Distinguished Service achievement in Halo: Spartan Assault - Definitive Guide

*NOTE* This is primarily a solution for the Let it Rain medal (though it will cover Grenade Spree and Cluster Bomb as well, as those simply require fewer kills). I got every other medal without ever reading this achievement description just by completing the main campaign the first time. If you have problems with other medals post in the comments and I'll update this solution to include information on good places to get them. *UPDATE* Now with a Swiss Army solution at the end as requested.

My "Let it Rain" solution:
I believe I found the easiest way to get 10 grenade kills in a row without being hit. Load up B-1 - it is a one-screen map where you defend against a bunch of suicide grunts and a few grunt minors and elites along the way. You start with 3 incendiary grenades and there are 3 more just left of the middle of the map. Throw them at the suicide guys running at you and the next 2 waves will both run into the fire that is left behind and die (which counts as a grenade kill!). I was able to get 10 kills using only 4 grenades, which left 2 to spare in case a throw is off target or the AI pathing manages to miss the flames.

Additional Tips for "Let it Rain" from CyberKnight:
1. You can't shoot anyone. All 10 grenade kills must happen in a row without any other kills. (I don't know why I thought I could mix up some pistol kills too, but that's not allowed.)
2. Watch out for the Elite that drops in the lower left of the map after about the third wave of suicide grunts. He likes to jump out and shoot. You have to be pretty far right for him not to notice you. (Seems like once he starts shooting the turret, you should be ok.)
3. If, like me, you don't seem to have enough kills after about four grenades, aim for the Grunt Majors. They tend to drop a plasma grenade, which can give you one more throw.

"Swiss Army" Solution from DTI April:
(Swiss Army is for getting 5 kills with 5 different weapons - and it appears grenades don't count) B-4 is easy for swiss army - start with assault rifle and magnum, then use a plasma off the grunts and repeater from elite, then there's a shotty on the floor part way along the level. Did it with four weapons and a grenade and it didn't work for me, think it has to be 5 guns.

Another "Swiss Army" solution from kHz RazgriZ
Earliest and also quick way for Swiss Army is on A-5, just to get it out the way to concentrate on others. You start with shotgun(1) as primary and magnum(2) as secondary. Elite's drop repeaters(3), grunts drop plasma pistols(4). You can find assault rifles(5) scattered around the base in pick up pods. Simple

I thought for sure I would need more than this, but the achievement popped as soon as the Let It Rain medal appeared.
A few things I learned, since it took me a few tries:

I think you put this solution on the wrong achievement.

How so? My solution is for the Medal "Let it Rain" which so far has been mentioned as the most difficult medal to attain. This achievement is for "earn all medals in the campaign at least once."

Did you play another version (Windows 8 or Phone) first? I hear that messes with stats and some achievements :(.

I played a mission of the Win 8 version first yes, are there any known fixes?

There are no forum posts that mention this, so its hard to say. Perhaps try to recall if you got any medals in that one mission you played and re-earn them?

I got all medals except Let It Rain without even checking requirements. Turned out I got the Swiss Army medal by random. Good guide anyway guys - particularly for Let It Rain. Upvoted.

Good guide for 'Let it Rain' but doesn't cover the achievement itself. Obviously I understand why you chose to concentrate on 'Let it Rain' but it might be worth adding the following.

- 32 out of 46 medals are campaign medals.
- On the official medal page. You need every medal from 'Double Kill' to 'Wrecking Ball'. Everything from 'Killpower' onwards are Co-op medals.
- A-1 is a good mission for 'Contact', 'Gunslinger', 'Killionaire' and all subsequent medals.
- D-3 is a good mission for 'Road rage'

But thanks for the guide that helped me with 'Let it Rain'. smile

I got Let It Rain on level C-5 without any trouble. Loads of grunts spawn in the third wave on the right, just spam the groups of three or four. There's even a stack of plasma grenades nearby,

I got Let It Rain on A-1: you have 6 grenades for all the grunts at the beginning.

Swiss Army: Kill 5 enemy units with 5 different weapons. I didn't notice when I got that medal, but I would guess in most levels it should be as simple as getting 2 kills with your starting weapons, pick up 2 weapons from the enemy and get 2 kills with them, and finally get a grenade kill.

There are 46 medals in the game, but you only need 32 medals for this achievement. These are the first 32 listed on the menu under "medals." You can check there to see which ones you are missing.

1-9: Double kill through Killionaire: kill 10 enemies within 4 seconds of each other.

10-14: Killing Spree through Untouchable: Kill 20 enemies in a row without being hit.

15, 16, 17: Rifle Spree, Target practice, and Contact: Kill 10 enemies in a row, with a rifle, without being hit (or killing with another weapon). Does not need to be the same rifle. You can get some kills with an assault rifle and some with a plasma rifle.

18, 19, 20: Pistol Spree, Pistol Perfect, and Gunslinger: Kill 10 enemies in a row, with a pistol, without being hit (or killing with another weapon).

21, 22, 23: Grenade Spree, Cluster Bomb, and Let it Rain: Kill 10 enemies in a row, with grenades, without being hit (or killing with another weapon).

24, 25, 26: Splatter Spree, Road Rage, and Sunday Driver: Kill 10 enemies in a row, with a vehicle without being (Significantly) hit. You can use any of the vehicle's weapons for this.

27: Assassin: Kill an enemy with a melee attack from behind. If you walk up to a jackal and keep meleeing it, odds are about 50/50 that it'll count as an assassination.

28: Sentry: Destroy an enemy vehicle with a turret. Easily done on C-3.

29: Anticipation: Kill an enemy with a charged shot (from a plasma pistol). Kill a grunt, take his weapon, shoot his buddy.

30: Demolition: Destroy a structure with a grenade. The second turret you destroy in A-2 is a good target for this. The structure must have had an enemy in it recently to count.

31: Swiss Army: Kill 5 enemy units with 5 different weapons. This doesn't count grenades or vehicles.

32: Wrecking Ball Destroy an enemy vehicle with a vehicle of your own.

There are 46 medals total, but you really only need the first 32 medals (From Double Kill to Wrecking Ball in the Medals Menu).

The quickest way I got this done is to first run through all A Operations through B-2. You can knock out ALL 32 required medals on Missions A-1 to B-2, but I'll be listing the Ops Missions and which medals it was most efficient/easiest to get them (you can get some of the sprees in A if you have good aim, if not Ops B-1 and B-2 give you another opportunity). Depending on your skill you can knock them out pretty quick as much missions are only a few minutes long. I decided to include the map info for those that are wanting to start chipping away at the achievements for:
Weapon of Choice (Score a kill with every handheld weapon in the campaign)
Powered by MJOLNIR (Use every ability in the campaign at least once)

•A-1: Assault on CF32

•A-2: The Mirror Mantle Counter-Assault

•A-3: Reinforcement of the Perch

•A-4: Live To Fight

•A-5: The Last Stand

•B-1: Siege of Faraday

•B-2: Reactor Field Relief

In total, there are 32 medals to be obtained in the Single Player portion of the game. Most of them are relatively straightforward and will be obtained without much effort. They generally consist of getting a certain amount of kills with a specific weapon, all while not taking any damage. The most obscure and difficult of the bunch, are getting grenades kills without being hit. This can easily be done on the first mission of Operation A.

Overall, you can always refer back to the Main Menu and track your progress for this achievement by opening up the Medals tab. They will be highlighted in light blue if they have already been obtained, and greyed out if you have not achieved them yet.

There are 32 medals in this game, including multiple tiers for many of them (such as 3 kills in a row and 10 kills in a row give you different medals). To save space, I stacked the tiers together or merged a tier of different weapons. Your medals progress can be seen in the medals section of the main menus.

Double Kill - Killionaire : Get up to 10 kills in a row with less than 4 seconds between kills
Killing Spree - Untouchable : Get up to 20 kills in a row without getting hit
Rifle Spree/Pistol Spree/Grenade Spree : Get 3 kills in a row with the associated weapon without getting hit
Target Practice/Pistol Perfect/Cluster Bomb : Get 6 kills in a row with the associated weapon without getting hit
Contact/Gunslinger/Let it Rain : Get 10 kills in a row with the associated weapon without getting hit
*All weapons fall into either the Rifle or Pistol category, and only grenades count for grenade kills (Brute Shot is a rifle)
Splatter Spree-Sunday Driver : Get up to 10 kills in a row while in a vehicle without getting hit
Assassin : Melee an enemy in the back (backspace)
Sentry : Kill a vehicle with a turret
Anticipation : Kill an enemy with a charged shot (Plasma pistol only, hold left and right click on the mouse to charge)
Demolition : Destroy a structure with a grenade
Swiss Army : Kill 5 enemies with 5 different weapons
Wrecking Ball : Destroy an enemy vehicle with a vehicle of your own

Many of these can be farmed on the very first mission, if you're having trouble with them. Chances are you will get all but maybe one or two of them naturally in a playthrough. Also note that once you unlock the medal, you can back out of the mission and it will still count.
