It's important to note, you most improve your score on a mission on the SAME DIFFICULTY.
I was wondering why this achievement wasn't popping when I got a much better score on a lower difficulty.
It finally popped when I beat the same mission twice on the same difficulty, and got a better score the second time.
The fewer units you lose and the faster you beat the mission will help you get a higher score generally.

This is best done after completing the Campaign once. Reload any mission and aim for a better score. Mission score is based on completing objectives, minimizing unit loss, and completing the mission under Par Time. This will likely come naturally as you work towards "Wall of Recognition."
