How to unlock the Everything's Better with Bacon achievement in Halo Wars: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide
I strongly suggest completing this achievement solo, so that you can leverage the saving functionality when things are going well. Personally, I only saved up until the point where you are instructed to destroy the shield with the marines. The final showdown in the base is highly random and can go sideways at any minute, especially if the two carpet bombs wipe out too many Grunts. You won't truly know if they have until you are done clearing the base out, so I found it best to simply revert if things went south.
Playing on normal (or heroic, for extra AI damage resistance) and using only Forge to jump in and out of splattering Grunts along the beginning route seemed to work well. I kept the Warthogs earned along the way far back to save them for the final assault on the base.
If you try and use Forge at the end, he will follow your first splatter command, but will make short work of the other groups nearby with the Gauss turret. I used one standard Warthog at a time, marking a single group with the ram ability, and then retreating outside the base to regenerate the ability. I repeated this actions as many times as I could with the standard Warthogs, and the followed up with Forge to pick up the remaining groups.
To better improve your chances, I would also recommend using the Catch and Sugar Cookies skulls to help your units and the Rebel Sympathizer skull to give your opposition a tab bit more health. This helps prevent stray Gauss and Turret fire from killing too many of those much needed Grunts without compromising the instant-kill potential of the ram ability.
For those uncertain of the proper controls, pressing to select all of your units followed by will allow you to select a specific type of unit. Alternatively, if you want to select a single Warthog (for the final assault), simply press on the unit you wish to command. A press of the button will deselect all of your units. Commanding a location with the button will utilize the ramming attack (if centered on a enemy). I recommend playing the entire mission using this command (instead of ), as your units tend to fire less frequently.

Thanks for the advice. this achievement - saved it for last and got all the other mission-specific achievements first.

Took me forever. In the end I got it on Normal with skulls having just entered the last area.
Also got 100 kills with 4 grunt squads remaining. Amazing how inconsistent it is.

This can be tricky as the AI tends to take out Grunts before you can move in close enough to ram them. Playing on Heroic with the Catch, Sugar Cookies, and Rebel Sympathizer skulls will make this a little easier.
Once you rescue the first Warthog, switch to that Warthog as it doesn’t have the Gauss cannon. Just keep repeating the process of ramming and retreating and hopefully by the end you will have killed 50 Grunts.
