How to unlock the Thinkin' about My Doorbell achievement in Halo Wars: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide
For those of you who are visual learners, I have linked my video at the bottom of the solution. It is my first YouTube video for a game ever, so be kind with your criticism.
Do remember all games have glitches and/or hidden rules.
Since HW:DE is a Play Anywhere title, if you have a Windows PC that can handle HW:DE, some people have been having success getting glitched achievements to unlock on their computer.
1. There cannot be any non-human units near the interlock. Covenant, Flood, or Sentinels. I personally had the sentinels near one preventing the interlock from being activated when going for this achievement.
2. It's advised you have a unit near each interlock. It should work without one, but better safe than sorry.
Method 1. Found in the Xbox 360 solution. Personal favorite. ↓

At the time I am posting this solution Tyrael has this as his solution, but I found a forum post by Chill Penguin X on the official Halo Wars website from 2009 explaining this method, though he got 2 and 8 backwards.

If you want the directions they are...
1. The door just North West of your Starting Base.
2. The door directly opposite of Door 1.
3. The door to the east of Door 1.
4. The door directly opposite of Door 3.
5. The door to the north of Door 3.
6. The door directly opposite of Door 5.

Keep in mind, if an enemy comes close to the interlock it will reset, so the easiest way to do this is by either wiping out all enemies before activating the interlocks, or by keeping a few units, preferably hawks, to protect them after being released.
First Doors--the one right next to your base and the one opposite.
Second Doors--the closest door to your base going around the right side of the map and the one opposite to it.
Third Doors--the last two!
Just make sure there are no enemies anywhere near the doors and you have a unit near the door.
For example, since the first interlock is the south one, the second interlock is the north one.
You can open any interlock next, as long as the one after it is directly across from it. So if the third interlock you open is the northeast one, the fourth one must be the southwest one. Alternatively, if the third interlock you open is the northwest one, the fourth one must be the southeast one.
In short, just make sure that you're opening corresponding interlocks in pairs, and you'll get the achievement.
- Build your economy / army (all-in on Hawks)
- Get ready to unlock all doors in one go with your 20+ hawks
- Save your game
- Unlock the doors using above guides
- If the achievement didn't unlock, load your saved game from the main menu and try again until it eventually works
I did that and it finally unlocked after the fifth try. What's nice is that when you're ready, unlocking all doors take literally 1 minute so trying again is fast.
I tried several orders each time and the one that unlocked my achievement was: 1, 4, 3, 6, 2, 5 (using the first guide)
The order is hinted at by the symbols on each section of the portal. The symbols will sort of represent a clock face with the main hand being at either 12 o’clock, 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock. The door right near your base is where you need to start and then open the opposite door (the northern most door).
Assuming you are still at the northern most door, head west near the Covenant base and open that door next. Once that’s done, proceed to the opposite door (the door to the right of your base) and open that one. Next you will have the door to the north-east and the door to the left of your base left. Open these two last and the achievement will unlock.
