How to unlock the Living Loving Bug achievement in Halo Wars - Definitive Guide

Go into a 1v1 easy on chasms against anyone though i suggest you play as the prophet because you will need his cleansing beam and put on the bountiful harvest skull and Wuv Woo (for fun) start out by building a temple and make the rest of the slots into blessed warehouses. when you have enough supplies start to upgrade your age (reactor level) and the prophet's beam and upgrade your man cap to 50 then once you have a wave or two go to the base nearest to yours and take out the rebels. use all the slots for blessed warehouses. then take one more base and make all the buildings into blessed warehouses. wait until you have enough supplies to make a scarab and if you have too many men then here is where you use the prophet's beam to kill off some of your own until you have 20+ spots left for men. you will need to wait a while until you reach 3000 supplies. wait until the wave comes in and there you go. also make sure you upgrade all bases into citadels.

This works it just takes a few tries. Far more effective using the prophets beam to destroy your own units then trying to get the enemy to destroy your engineers in the other option.

It might depend on your resources, how much do you have each time a new wave starts?

Good guide. Took me about an hour until I actually got the Scarab. It seems it only gives you the Scarab if you've got 30/50 population and every base you have is a Citadel.

I can confirm: 30/50 all citadels before you will see it.

I had 30/50, all citadels and no scarab on exile (3v3). I killed all my guys, and a few waves later I got a scarab with 0/50. Coincidence?

I think I just might have a fairly solid answer as to why the Scarab does not 'like' to spawn on the 1v1 Chasms map. I had well over 30 of the 'lucky dip' spawns with anywhere between thirty & one population & no Scarabs appeared at all. The only logical thought I could muster was that they were camera shy & did not like spawning when your camera is over the spawn. So I moved my camera away elsewhere & hey presto out pops a Scarab first time!

I would have to guess that for whatever reason it strains the game too much to actually be able to show you a Scarab spawning there. Please try it for yourselves, Just might save you a whole lot of time. If multiple people have the same result it might be an idea to add & credit this information to this solution. Regards.

I swear this is a pain in my rear. I've tried both of those methods all day, including all suggested variations, and can't get it to pop. Ugh.

My camera was right over the spawn and I still got the Scarab! It was a good theory, but not always true. smile Took forever and lots of killing my troops. I happened to have 0/50 with 4000-6000 resources. Not sure on the exact number because I looked away from the screen, not looking seems to be lucky for me!!

Got it first try with this method. I built a temple first to summon the Prophet and upgraded only his cleaning beam to max, then waited until I had citadels on all three base areas and waited for a 2 minute reinforcement wave. Summoned all my other units, killed them all with the cleaning beam until I had 6/40, then got my scarab when the reinforcement wave expired.

Hmm, I have 20+ pop spots and 3000 credits, but it won't let me build a Scarab. It won't let me build an Elite Honor Guard either.

I Googled it, but I'm not finding anyone else having problems building Scarabs. is this a bug?

OK, I get it now, you have to wait till this game type spawns one for you, you can't build one on your own.

That must be what Ethigy meant by RNG.

You can’t make a scarab, it will randomly spawn as I got it 20+ minutes into a game on chasms.

I don't have a guide but more of a add-on the to guides above. You see I never could produce the amount of resources necessary in one wave, so I couldn't get the scarab/achievement. I think personally you have to have more than 3000. So what I did was use the games "return policy". Which is basically this: save resource in one wave, when the wave has 15 seconds left I would "buy" the prophets upgrades and as many turrets as I could afford. Then when the wave ended I simply canceled (hit x/recycled turrets) what I had purchased. This gave me the full resource amount back as long as the item did not finished building/upgrading. And thus I was able to save up for the scarab and get the achievement. Plus on top of giving me the money back it also prevented the game from making more units for me, equaling less of my own units I had to kill. If this helped let me know in the comments, now go have fun and get that achievement

This solution kind of got buried in the comments, but @DrSaw's Camera method actually worked for me! If you are struggling to unlock it after getting all the achievement requirements (since everyone is working on Halo 360 completions before sunsets [Halo Wars should be safe from that]) here is a more concise guide update!

Achievement Requirements!
- Max Tech/Prophet Age Upgrades (There's
- 3000+ Supplies
- 20 available unit slots (Scarab requires 20 pop so fill population with Engineer either to 20/40 or 30/50)
*** WHEN YOU HAVE ALL 3: Look into a random spot in the map (Not at any of your bases) and it should spawn your Scarab!

Play as the Covenant, preferably The Prophet Of Regret, set your opponent to be Captain Cutter. Set the opponent AI to Easy to make it easier for you.

Build supply pads only, upgrading them, and a temple, and upgrade your ages (upgrade found at the Temple, Age of Doubt first and then the Age of Reclamation) so you get tech level (the lightning bolt in the top-left corner) to three - this will require two ''Age'' upgrades. Also, capturing a second base is almost mandatory and increasing your population (this upgrade can be found in the Temple as well) helps too.

Kill any unit you might get using the Prophet's Cleansing Beam if your population is over 20. Make sure you have enough population room and enough supply to ''Buy'' a Scarab. I know you can't buy units, but you need the supplies. So have 4,000 supplies in reserve and 20 population available.

Then just hope you get a Scarab instead of a lot of Wraiths or anything else. If you have too many units and they take up too much population, the Prophet's Cleansing Beam is your friend. Kill your own units with it if needed.
