How to unlock the The Mournful Wastes achievement in Hand of Fate 2 - Definitive Guide

The Mapmaker is one of the new Campagins that is listed under the new Adventure Tab. In order to complete the Mapmaker you must locate The Gateway in the Desert. You can find various clues to help you avoid danger as well as rescue a ghostly pirate crew. The Gateway is always on the third level of the desert.
I prefer not to spoil the clues or the ending but following them and locating The Gateway is fairly straightforward and as the game tells you the clues are always true regardless of the layout of the cards. Makes sure you have a couple good pieces of equipment and good healing with either potions or food to help counter the fire traps. The clues themselves reference the Metal Figurines placed around the board including The Tower and the Oak Tree and are purchased as Riddles.
To get the Gold Token you will need lots of Gold so I recommend the Maiden or Goblin Town Platinum Encounters.
The final Battle is against a Chief of Mischief (Goblins) and his cronies. Good Luck!
