How to unlock the Champion achievement in Hand of Fate - Definitive Guide

Ok the other solutions are quite good, and helped me a lot, but i just want to add some helpfull tips on what to do and how i finaly got it today.
I will walk you trough in a few steps:

What you need to kill
First of all i can now confirm through a lot of sessions without getting the achievement, what is needed and what isnt.

You NEED: Four basic enemies (Dust, Skull, Scale, Plague), Mages, Lich, Lava Golem, Minotaur

You DONT NEED: Hell, Goblins, Kraken, Bosses

What to play
I played King of Plague on Adventurer, Apprentice doesnt allow you get this achievement, and Warlord also works, but is harder, so i would recommend to stick with adventurer.

I think playing the King of Plague mission is way easier then endless, because of a few reasons:

  1. You wont get a new curse each floor.
  2. You can choose the cards in your deck. (!!!)
  3. It has the "winding trail" trap cards already in the deck, which will allow more fights.
  4. It is quite short, so you can just restart if something messes up your game or you die.
  5. Its still long enough to get all the enemy types, with a little luck and the right cards.
What cards will you need for this ?
I added mostly fights as you will have to increase the chances of fighting all the mentioned enemies. And you will need a few special cards to get certain enemies.

For the four basic enemies:
Winding Trail, Wifes Fury (help the woman), Tavern Wager (decline the wager), The Lizard Dome, Ambush, Dead Kings Hall(attack), Deadmans Gorge, Desert Cult(Decline), Summoned, Cave Rescue(attack)

For Mages:
Nothing special that only triggers mages, but entering shops will often lead to an ambush which is often mages, so i added a extra shop, Tavern wager (decline wager) also can get mages, over all mages arent to rare and you will most likely get them while just doing every fight possible.

For Liches:
Now that is important, i didnt find a way to reliably get a Lich in an encounter, so for those i added the"Battle Practice" card, (earned after completing all aprentice encounters), it lets you choose every kind of enemie, so if you already got a Lich somehow, you can choose another enemy type, but you need this encounter to guarantee a Lich encounter, if you will find the card.

For Lava Golems:
They are kinda random, too, as you can get them in standard encounters sometime, but what i found most reliable, was the "Battle at Brooktop" and "Summoned" cards, but like i said, you can also get Lava Golems at normal encounters by chance. Also, if you havent finished the Soul Gem quest line, the "Soul Gem II" encounter will guarantee you Golems, also the red Hell cards often have Golems, if you havent completed them already.

For Minotaurs:
Add the White "Minotaur Card", as it will guarantee a Minotaur, but you can also get normal Minotaurs in standart encounters by chance, if you fought a lot during that session and, most other monster cards were already used. I wasnt able to get a Minotaur from the "Battle Practice" card, so White Minotaur helps a lot.

I was worried because i got the "Wrath of the old Gods" blessing, halfway through my session, which will kill a random enemy, each fight, and other people stated, that enemies killed by that blessing wont count.
BUT my last enemy type left, was the minotaur, and the blessing killed it instantly after the fight began, which still gave me the achievement, so it seems like, kills by the blessing, will still count as a kill for that enemy type.

Also i didnt, quit and restart the game, so i dont know, if it will work if you quit and restart, or if it will reset like the deflect 100 arrow achievement.
EDIT: "Shulamm" confirmed, that restarting the game, resets your progress, so dont do that while going for this achievement.

If something is unclear, please feel free to ask, and please add a comment if you rate negative !

I believe you are mistaken about "will of the gods" blessing, it marks an enemy and if they die first they drop 5 gold. "Wrath of the Old Gods" blessing will kill one enemy at the start of a combat.

Thx for this very helpful guide. Tried it multiple times in Endless Mode and just did not get the Lich Encounter to show up. Got the achievement on my first attempt, too, with this guide.

It's also helpful to use Depth of Night to skip monster types you already killed!

Just a side note: if you dashboard the count resets to zero. That's what "in a single session" means.

I've just unlocked this achievement in endless mode. When i killed my final enemy the achievement didn't pop. I realized i had dashboarded to get some tokens in the process, so i started counting enemies from that point and when i killed a minotaur again (first fight was on level 2, next and last fight on level 33 facepalm the achievement popped. So be aware.

Spot on. First try. I found the Explorer's Gift perk made it really easy. I could move back to heal and it would cost no food and I could continually visit shops to try and find more encounters if I wanted to. Depth of Night armor is awesome here.

I fought everything but the Minotaur in one session and was wondering why the achievement didn’t pop. I think the guide I used didn’t include the Minotaur, so I took that out of my encounter deck. Now I have to do it all over again AND fight a Minotaur (likely the White Minotaur). ):

@TrueWickedone correct, has to be one single run without dashboarding. Was noted at the bottom of the solution, in case you missed it.

Got it on my 1st try! Good Guide!
Something really vital that I found that tremendously increases your chances of getting each enemy type was the Depth of Night Armor. This one allows you to change the monster cards on every event. Using the Explorer character I could hop back / forth to recharge health and keep hitting the same shop on the 1st map. Every 3rd or so trip back to shop, it gave me a monster card upon entering the shop. By changing the cards if I didnt like them, I got Minotaurs, lava golims, ...

Great guide, got it first time. Seems like as long as you put every combat encounter into your deck, everything turns up one way or another, the Lich turned up in an Ambush of all things.

Killed all mob types except minotaur on first run, then minotaur on second run and got no achievement. I kept playing until I killed everything again, and all but the Lich a third time across a few King of Plague runs. Something is glitched, or you CANNOT attain this on anything but 1 single run without dashboarding.

*** Confirmed *** This can ONLY be obtained on a single run through a dungeon. I did it on King of Plague. Get all kills on a single run and pop!

NEW SOLUTION, ALL CREDIT GOES TO Steamboat Wi11y

Ok after many hours and tears i finally got this to pop and i can confirm the bug is fixed.
I killed the white minotaur with Blood Crescent's ability and it was the only minotaur killed.
I killed:
Goblins (already completed the goblin king's halls)
Plague
Dust
Minotaur (White Minotaur Encounter)
Scale
Skull
Hellbeast (doubt this was required)
Lava Golem
Lich
Mages (popped after killing)
I did this in endless mode, on adventurer. Previously tested on Apprentice mode, no achievement.
I would suggest endless mode if you have completed the goblin king series and were on the White minotaur encounter as well as descend into the underworld, which gives you a series of battles that have lava golems and a lich in the last battle.

I also did not quit, or dashboard, i only killed the minotaur with the weapons ability (LB instant kill costs HP) but killed several enemies with the instant ground finisher including all the scales i fought. Got it after just 6 floors of endless due to the new encounter cards. Also had 0 (zero, none, nada) boss encounters, meaning i did not kill any Jacks, Queens, or Kings.

ORIGINAL SOLUTION (BEFORE UPDATE) In order to unlock this you need to kill at least one of each enemy below in one single game.

Dust (Humans)
Plague (Rats)
Skulls (skeletons)
Scales (Lizardmen)

Make sure to choose different types of enemies if ever given the choice, also play a story mode game further down the tree for more fighting opportunities.

Some people claim they are not popping this achievement, my exact settings were as follows...

Queen of scales
I fought Dust, Plague, skulls, scales, mages, and one lava golem...the achievement popped after I killed scales.

UPDATE - THIS ACHIEVEMENT MAY BE BUGGY-GLITCHY ..... note that I also killed mages and a lava golem when mine popped, I killed a scale last. http://steamcommunity.com/app/266510/discussions/0/617329150...
Any questions, comments, concerns, please post below. Thank you..

Does this only pop once you finish the current session by beating the boss?

I definitely beat one of each yesterday, also mages, a golem and a Lich. Only thing I didn't defeat was a minotaur.

I died before I reached the boss though and I didn't get the achievement?

That's odd because mine popped after I killed the scales (last one needed for me) after the fight (scale fight)

Hey Guys :D if anyone need that achievement, here is the trick: Don't back out of the Game (don't quit it) it's no matter if you die. "In a single session" means, in one game. Nevermind how often you die...and then you have to kill ALL type of enemies. So it works for me. I hope i could help you a llittlebit ! P.S. Excuse my Bad English :>

Played for 6 hours solid today just trying to get this last achievement! FINALLY got a minotaur after around 4 hours which I though was all I the final enemy I needed to kill.........and nothing!
Played another 2 hours killing at least one of everything again and still nothing.

I'm done with this now!

I have had the same issue. I played endless, reached floor 26 before I saw a minotaur, after having killed every other enemy type including goblins, a lich, dust, skulls, scales, mages and lava golems, I killed the minotaur and no achievement. Im wondering if maybe uninstalling the game and reinstalling it might help. Ill try it tomorrow since im tired of playing tonight after several hours.

Well in a single campaign I have killed just scales, dust, skulls and plague, no achievement.
So i'll attempt to play through several and see what works and when. Just wont exit the game at all.

Ok so after testing this is completely bugged for me.
I not only killed one of every type of monster (dust, skulls, plague, scales, mages, goblins, golems, minotaur and liches) in a campaign without exiting the game or quitting, but I found and killed one of every type within the same campaign level and killed them to no avail.
This was also tested after uninstalling and reinstalling the game also. So unless there is any more suggestions I think im just screwed for now.

I will try retesting, but even so, i have killed every single enemy type including mages, minotaurs, liches, and golems in a single story mode campaign, as well as endless mode.
In endless mode i have killed multiples of each, (meaning 3 or more) in single sitting, no quitting, no dashboarding, just playing for several hours.

Game is rife with bugs atm. I was going for full collection but one of my tokens hasn't unlocked the next set of cards that It should have. This also won't pop for me, tried killing everything in one sitting, but nothing worked. Such a shame because I really love the game and was hoping to grab some high points out of it. Ah well will enjoy the inflation come games with gold.

By raventalon90 on 29 Jan 2016 10:59
I don't think it's a problem with your tokens. There was an update to the game with Wildcards and that moved some of the encounters and Tokens into the Fate Deck behind the Warlord and Apprentice. You now need to complete those fates fully to unlock all equipment and encounters.

Sorry for spam posts but i i cant edit comments apparently and one last thig to add for this. About 20 minutes before i popped this achievement my game froze after finishing a battle. Luckily after i closed out the game and came back it brought me back to right before the fight that froze on me.

I mention this because the idea that it needs to be in one sitting is probably incorrect as i am certain i did not kill all the required enemies after my game froze.

Side note. I don't think you will unlock this achievement on Apprentice mode as it has limited achievements. i could not get the blessed achievement as well as i could only get 9 blessings no matter what. If i got an encounter that blesses me i just got eq or the same blessing i already had. i'm not sure what else is affected by this easy mode but i am confident this is one of them. recommended Adventurer and up

I would add a tip for anyone trying this on Story Mode: Stack your deck with Battle Encounters and try to take as much of the helpful fluff cards out. Remember: Battle Encounters are drawn from a deck, so the goal is to go through the deck!

By McGubbalo on 16 Feb 2016 17:06
I got the achievement just now I recommend that you do it on the queen of scales story as CounterInsurgent suggests as getting huge failures on the lost in swamp cards get extra monster draw, important cards to put in your deck are the crucible, summoned (as this almost always draws at least one big creature) and battle practice, this is obtained by quickly doing the apprentice encounters but it is excellent help to this achievement because you can pick a fight with any creature type the base 4 and lich, golem or Minotaur. I also defeated goblins but I cannot confirm if goblins is a necessity towards the achievement, hopefully this helps anyone still struggling.

I posted it in the comments of this solution and PM'd CounterInsurgnt, so that he may use it in part or in total. The reason being we have both been playing since release and I have received help in working through this buggy thing from CounterInsurgnt. So it was only fitting that post my findings with his solution. Anyway hope this is helpful to anyone that has struggled in unlocking this achievement.

I do see a typo, the encounter I listed as "descend into hell" I believe is actually called Descend into the Underworld, which is what unlocks the Underworld Totem encounter card.

I don't mind if you have given permission, I actually like that people come together and share. However, I also mind if people copy things without permission. Please don't take it the wrong way, I merely wanted to make sure good practices are met!

I can also confirm that Hellbeasts are not needed to get this achievement but that the encounter greatly increases the chances of meeting the requirements for this achievements as they will have you fight multiple Golem as well as a Lich!

By Epsilon Theta on 08 Mar 2016 19:06
OK Epsilon, so I guess my question is....what if permission had not been given? Are you staff? Would you complain to staff? It just seems a little intense.
0

By on 09 Mar 2016 01:36
I would indeed report the solution. I am a firm believer that not only must credit be given, to use original work one must also obtain permission to use it. People simply tend to think that everything on the Internet is fair game to being copied, quoted, used, reused, etc, and that is simply not the case.

In theory, had permission not been given, the author could have asked staff to remove your solution and by European Law they would have needed to comply. So in the end my question was also aimed at protecting you, the solution's author, as well as the reputation of everyone involved.

I can confirm 3 important fact:

1º) Kraken helmet ability kill DO count (my last kill and cheevo was with kraken)
2º) Hellhounds are NOT need for the cheevo
3º) This cheevo MUST be done in 1 sitting, no reset, no dash-exploit

My last kill was the minotaur with the kraken helmet ability, the cheevo popped right at the second after the minotaur went down.

Actually not as hard as it seems. You can play on campaign levels with Battle Training (Lich/Golems), White Minotaur, and Summoned (Lich/Golems) to get this easily.

Since you can die you can do it over multiple games as long as you don't dashboard and quit the game.

I threw goblins in my deck just in case, popped over 3 runs on King of Plague.

Didn't work for me. Had all enemy types but Minotaur and lich on my first run and defeated King of plague first. Started a new run and had lich and Minotaur right at the beginning killing both with blood Crescent. Nothing...luckily all the the ones i killed in the former run appeared in this run again and I was able to get the cheevo literally in 1 sitting.

Hmm not sure what happened to Willly, this is how it unlocked for me: Once I stopped quitting out of the game it unlocked the second I killed a lich (after of course having killed mage, golem, minotaur an the 4 base units). This was done in endless.

This achievement may have only required the 4 base units prior to the patch. Regardless, you need to kill every single unit including Golem, Lich, Minotaur etc.
I killed every single unit except the Minotaur and finally faced one on level 21 endless. He happened to be paired up with the King of Scales in a tiny battleground and I got brutally, brutally slaughtered..

There is a couple of things i would like to confirm with this achievement as i recieved it last night after doing a bit of testing.

First off the theory that god power blessing and items killing the enemy resulting in them not actually counting towards your kills is accurate.

How i tested it is by using the berserker ring whichs awards you +30 health after every 6 kills in a single combat. I allowed the god powers and other abilities like the kraken mask to kill enemies and afterwards counted how many kills it took to make the ring proc while never be full on health. So knowing this the trick for this achievement besides actually finding the difficult spawns is to limit these powers as best as possible. The wrath of the godsblessing is really the worst to get in this regard because it is very effective at killing the lich , can not be removed by the player as blessings can not be sold , and is not targetable in any way.

beyond that i got my achievement in endless mode. Killed all 4 basic groups, most likely every king, queen and jack variation, goblins , mages, golems, the kraken twice! And a lich.

I did face a minotaur but he was killed by a god power so he did not count for my game.

The achievement popped just as the lich was dying mid combat in my game, i did not have to wait until the end of the fight.

Ok after many hours and tears i finally got this to pop and i can confirm the bug is fixed.
I killed the white minotaur with Blood Crescent's ability and it was the only minotaur killed.
I killed:
Goblins (already completed the goblin king's halls)

Dust
Minotaur (White Minotaur Encounter)
Scale
Skull
Hellbeast (doubt this was required)
Lava Golem
Lich
Mages (popped after killing)
I did this in endless mode, on adventurer. Previously tested on Apprentice mode, no achievement.
I would suggest endless mode if you have completed the goblin king series and were on the White minotaur encounter as well as descend into hell, which gives you a series of battles that have lava golems and a lich in the last battle.

Confirming the kills needed to unlock the champion achievement... when it says all it means all... right - Skulls - Rust - Plague - Scales - Mage - Goblin - Lava Golem - Liche and finally the Minotaur... all have to fall... it doesnt matter if they dont die by your hand as my minotaur fell to a trap though they all must go in one session so obviously through endless mode... happy hunting 😉

I don't think you can quit out. I had a long endless game where I quit after like 1 hour. I wound up getting every enemy in that game, even the Kraken too, but no achievement.

No surprise though, as other achievements (100 projectiles) need to be in a single game session without exiting the game

Yep, I just got this without quitting at any point (25 levels down I finally found a lich - got the Minotaur on the battle training card). Not an easy achievement as it certainly seems to be the case that you do need to face all monster types.

you could always just kill all the monsters in one go after you unlock all of them just try and avoid them untill you can the minotuar unlocked which is pretty easy i have yet to try this method i just thought of.

I don't think Goblins count. And like ALollz said don't quit, I had to quit as a combat wouldn't register everything was dead then after I loaded it up again and got the last enemy I needed no cheevo :( so I kept going until I killed everything again (except Goblins) and got it.

Seems Battle Practice was patched. Can't get it to select the rare enemies. Also, did kill everything but a Goblin and didn't get the achievement.

Epsilon - I see you earned this achievement a couple days after your last post. Would you mind sharing what you did to earn it, please?

Battle Practice is a MUST. But I cannot beat Lizard Dome for the life of me.angry

Best to do it against The Dealer?

What I did is that I battled all four base types, Mages, Golem, Lich, and Minotaur. Goblins are not needed and neitheris the Kraken or Hellbeast. The major issue is that you have to to it in one sitting without quitting to the dashboard or resuming the game at any point.

I also noticed that the newest title update locks a few monster types, notably Mages and Minotaurs, until you have advanced far enough into the new challenge's story. That being said, the Underworld and White Minotaur encounters are a sure way to get all the rarer enemies to spawn!

This achievement depends mostly on luck so this is more about general tips than an actual walk through.

Firstly, the enemies you need to kill are Dust, Bones, Plague, Scales, Mages, Lich, Lava Golems, and finally the Minotaur. Bosses, Goblins and the Kraken don't count (although when I earned this achievement I killed a Goblin and the Kraken). Unless you managed to save the encounter cards for the last three enemies in the list, you're gonna have to go for this on Endless mode, which means by the time you get to actually fight the last three enemies on the list, you will have almost certainly fought the first 4 enemies on the list multiple times, so the only enemies you need to look out for are the Lich, Lava Golems, and the Minotaur; I call theses three enemies the rare enemies. Outside of the encounter card for the Minotaur, the only time I ever got to fight him was by landing on the battle practice encounter card and choosing to fight the Minotaur (Battle practice is unlocked by playing the first story level on apprentice difficulty and completing the three Apprentice encounter cards). So assuming you use the battle practice card to knock out the Minotaur, that means you only need to get to the 12th level of endless mode to have a shot at the Lich, with the Lava Golem unlocking as a possible enemy at level 9 or 10.

In order to set myself up, I mad multiple trips to shops to get items, and if I landed on a card that could benefit me, I dash-boarded to get the best results for the first 3 or 4 levels. Once I got to level five I stopped dashbording and lived with whatever happened so I could start banking the first 5 enemies on the list.

First thing to be on the lookout for is the battle practice card. Every time you land on the card that allows you to move on to the next level, the rest of the cards on the board are revealed. Be on the lookout for the battle practice card and if it's revealed go for it and choose to fight the Minotaur. This will most likely be the first of the three rare enemies you encounter.

The two most important pieces of equipment for me was the Blood Crescent sword and the Depth of Night armor. The weapon was important because not only did battles become easier when I could kill anyone on the floor instantly, but I could also use the weapon ability to auto kill any bosses that showed up during tough fights. I also used the auto kill on all three of the rare enemies. The armor is especially important in making the Lich and the Golem appear. Every time you clear a level the dealer shows you the new enemies he adds to the deck. I know the Lich gets added at Level 12, but i'm not sure when the Lava Golem gets added. I believe its around level 9 or 10, so when you get there be on the lookout for him to get added to the deck. When that happens, use the armor to redraw enemies every time until the lava Golem shows up, even if you have an easy fight activate the redraw. Do the same thing when you get to level 12 to force the Lich to show up. The more enemies you draw and discard, the more likely these guys will eventually appear.

The rest of your equipment is largely personal preference. I liked to use the Skeleton King's shield because it allowed me to kill skeletons with on shield bash. I also really liked the mages gloves. I would often need to choose between killing an enemy on the ground or countering an incoming enemy, but the gloves would allow me the kill the downed enemy and the missiles would hit the incoming enemy stopping his attack. The Blood Crescent sword, Skeleton King Shield and Mages Gloves allowed me to quickly go through most fights i faced, even at the higher levels. Any time I drew two boss cards i would insta-kill one of the bosses making the battle much easier. I spent the rest of my money on any rings that came up that I thought could help. If there was no rings I would spend everything I had on food.

Short Summary:
1-Always be on the lookout for the Battle Practice encounter and use it to fight The Minotaur
2-Try to obtain the Depth of Night armor by level 8
3-When the Lava Golem gets added to the deck at level 9 or 10, use the armor to redraw every enemy, every time, until the Golem appears
4-Do the same thing at Level 12 and beyond until the Lich appears

To unlock this achievement, you will need to kill at least one of each of the following enemy types:

- Dust (Bandits)
- Scales (Lizardmen)
- Plague (Ratmen)
- Skulls (Skeletons)

- Mages
- Lava Golems
- Liches
- Minotaurs

This means you DON’T NEED to fight the Hellbeasts, Goblins or Kraken. You also don’t need to go take out each individual boss, just each type above.

Which boss?

I found the best boss to go up against was the Jack of Scales, as the dungeon was a decent size, meaning there are enough chances to encounter the cards you might want. There are also two curses that are very manageable - Mana Drain (Cooldown times for weapons and artefacts are doubled) and Last Man Standing (In every combat, the last enemy alive can no longer be stunned or interrupted). This boss also comes with 2x Deadman’s Gorge, which means more combat.

I recommend having the Soul Gem encounter, just in case you want to remove one of these curses for the cost of 5 food.

You could also attempt this on endless, but you will have to deal with a lot more curses and more encounters that won’t benefit you.

Which encounters?

It should be obvious that you should include plenty of encounter cards in your deck, so you have increased chances or running into them. I used Summoned, Cave Shelter, Cave Rescue, Dead King’s Hall, Battle at Brooktop, Ambush, Deadman’s Gorge, Ratmen Hunting, Devil’s Choice and A Winding Trail.

I also included The White Minotaur (You’ll need to complete all the previous encounters for this), The Crucible (3 rounds of different enemies, which you get to choose) and Battle Practice (Complete all The Apprentice encounters and you can get this card which allows you to fight an enemy type of your choice...except the Minotaur).

Field of Poppies seems to help sometimes, but it doesn’t always reshuffle all the encounters on that dungeon level.

What else?

As much as there isn’t too much to remember, I recommend keeping note of which enemies you have encountered every time you start a new session. It’s easy to forget which you have fought when you’re on your 20th attempt or something.

You might be wondering what the best ways to encounter each of these enemy types are. It’s mostly random, unfortunately, but you should be able to encounter Dust and Mages from ambushes at shops. So if you still need those, go back and forth between the shop and try and get an ambush.

Battle Practice really is the most useful card for this encounter, along with Crucible.

Lastly, make sure you are well equipped to fight these enemies, as it’s easy to get into a combat situation with multiple bosses and find yourself in trouble. Know your bosses and try and kill them first.

Kill at least one of the following monster during 1 game! (no dying in-between):

Dust (Humans)
Plague (Rats)
Skulls (skeletons)
Scales (Lizardmen)
Lava Golems
Mages
Liches
Minoaurs
Goblins

Endless mode is your best option here.

The main thing is not to leave the game. You can die.

It is required to kill within one session:
  • Robber
  • Skeleton
  • Rat
  • Lizard
  • Golem
  • Maga
  • Licha
  • Minotaur
Don't leave the game!!! This will reset the session progress, since a session is the time spent in the game. Exiting, closing the game client, restarting, etc. - updates the session.

Two minotaurs had to be killed before the trophy was given. The first one died from the blessing “Wrath of the Ancient Gods” before I could even hit him, probably because of this they may not give the trophy

With the DLC installed you will also have to kill goblins for the trophy

I received the trophy in endless mode. The helmet that you get for killing the Kraken helped a lot. It greatly facilitates battles in confined spaces with strong attacks. So, for example, I managed to hit the blue minotaur only once, he also hit me once and died killed by the Kraken’s claw (a feature of this helmet). It took a long time to get to strong cards like Lich. But I came across the “Training Battle” card and I chose the fight with the Lich and also defeated him with the help of a helmet.
It is very important to always have enough food, since there is no way to replay the meeting, and when food runs out, lives begin to be wasted. And then you come across a crowd of enemies and you simply don’t have enough lives and you have to start over.

Great influence of randomness.

The trophy does not fall on the student, I checked it only when playing on normal!
And since now DLC is built into the main game, you also need to kill goblins, which is not difficult, this map often drops out
