How to unlock the Dragon Slayer achievement in Hand of Fate - Definitive Guide

First off, you'll need to unlock every dragon card, these cards are:
Dragon Ring - Already owned
Dragon Claws - unlocked by "Petward Monk"
Dragon Helm - unlocked by "Petward Monk"
Dragon Shield - unlocked by "Petward Monk"
Dragon Breath (artefact) - unlocked by "Petward Monk"
Dragon Tongue (sword) - unlocked by "Petward Monk"
Dragon Armour - unlocked by "Petward Monk"

In order to get the "Petward Monk" encounter, you have to start from "The Tavern" encounter. In the spoiler below is the whole progression to get to that point:

For this achievement I tried Endless, but it took forever to get even half of the dragon relics (potentially due to awful luck, but moving on). So I recommend playing King of Plagues on Adventurer difficulty (IT WILL NOT UNLOCK ON APPRENTICE) with this setup:

Equipment Cards:

Encounter Cards:

While playing, focus on stopping at every shop and don't be afraid to backtrack and hit a shop twice. If you see the Mage's Shop, then you have to stop there until you get the Dragon Ring because that's the only shop that it appears in. Everything else should appear in all the other shops/tinkerers (besides Healer and Priest shops since they don't sell items). If you make it to the floor exit before stopping everywhere, pay attention to what your "Ring of Hindsight" is revealing and backtrack if necessary.

Also pay attention to what cards are being discarded; for example if you landed on "twisted canyon" and got to draw your weapon but it was on the bottom of the deck, the game would discard every card picked before it picked the sword. That would make it so you'd have to wait until your equipment deck was reshuffled before you'd draw the necessary dragon relics from 'gain equipment' cards. If early enough, it might be worth it to forfeit and restart the King of Plagues.

A little bit of luck and patience is necessary. Quit to the dashboard and quit the game to restart it if you ever fail an encounter, die or just want to reload the shops for a better chance at getting the equipment you need. Each run through shouldn't take very long, especially if you skip/breeze past most encounters.

Good luck!!

*Updated High Priestess Card to 6 blessings, not 4.

I hope you get some more positives because your solution actually explains how to get the dragon items in the first place! Other solution says they assume we've unlocked the equipment, well don't assume you idiot tell us how to get it!! I've basically done everything only the tavern and one other left and hadn't seen a single dragon item so naturally I looked it up. Anyway appreciate your complete solution. Cheers!

I agree. Too much clicking on spoilers though. Of course I want spoilers, I'm reading a solution ha!

I mostly keep it that way so as to not have a huge wall of text people have to scroll through. This way you at least have each section clearly defined. I mostly kept the list items in a spoiler, so the suggestions and meat of the body could be easily identifiable. But I'll remove the spoilers for the dragon items since I think it's important to see them right away! Thanks for the commentsmile

Great guide. Probably obvious, but the wheel of the gods card is extremely useful for this as well. A great success can give you gold/food equal to your health or a normal success can give you 2 equipment cards which gave me two of the dragon relics right there. :)

I also chose the queen of plague as you get the cursed gambler cards which give you a 1 in 4 shot at a piece of equipment which you can keep repeating at the cost of a curse. Can easily reload if you get a bad curse but since I wasn't doing much fighting with my setup I found most didn't bother me. Got a couple useless rings but one relic through them.

As far as I can tell, you don't actually put the Dragon Ring in your deck. I have all the cards and I couldn't find it anywhere. The Traveling Mage just always sells it. Their stock is independent of your deck.

Yeah, so I see you have all equipment unlocked (Don't bother with achievement if you don't or aren't close). I'm going to assume you're good at the game lol.

Play 'King of Plague'
Have all the dragon relic item's in your deck + innocence (shield) + every ring in the game.
You shouldn't have any other items in your deck.
Pick the cards that give you rewards (I can list the deck I used but I figure by now you know the cards pretty well)
The main cards to have are:
'Twisted Canyon' (allows you to draw you're only sword)
'A Merchants Favor' (allows an instant 100 gold)
'Treasure Chest' (Allows equipment and gold)
'Loan' (never give 40, only ever 20 or 10)
'Tavern Wager' (usually gives equipment even if you don't have enough to wager)
'Shop' (Adds another shop lol)
'Royal Treasure' (Godly card! you need to succeed, it's a must)
'Blacksmiths Gratitude' (Another way to receive your only weapon...I think)
'Stranger in the Shadows' (Easy way to earn gold as long as you have the health to spare)
'Cursed Treasure' (Risky depending on what curses you get, but most of the time worth it)
'Dead Kings Hail' (Risky cause sometimes the game is a dick and awards you impossible enemy's)
'The crucible' (Very risky, if you're not good at the combat in this game without a shield don't put this card in your deck lol)
'The lizard dome' (pretty decent rewards)
'Ambush' (Go back and steal after the fight)

Any other cards are up to you to add, the ones I listed are the ones I found most rewarding.

Next play through getting the best rewards for each card.

IMPORTANT!! If you come to a 'Mage Shop' Stay there reloading the game over and over until you get the Dragon Ring. This is the only shop in the game I have ever found the ring to spawn at.

For the rest of the items you're going to need to buy them at pretty much a combination of the 'mage shop,' 'Tinkerers Shop,' 'Jewelry Shop,' and 'Shop'

I would recommend amassing a large amount of gold and then sitting at a shop later in the game entering and exiting back and forth. Reloading the game as often as you want to conserve food.

IMPORTANT!!! ...through the game you need to pay attention to what cards are discarded. If any of the dragon relics are discarded you will literally need to buy everything in the shop until it will reshuffle the cards that were discarded back into the shops items to choose from.

That's not as scary as it seems trust me. I ended up buying all 40 equipment cards plus the dragon ring.

Good rings to have:
'Bashing Ring' (Remember to bash every combat)
'Ring of Reward' (REALLY GOOD to have, it allows you to draw 3 equip cards and pick one)
'Guild Ring' (Discount on all the items you'll be buying)
'Ring of Enlightenment' (Allows you to get a ridiculous amount of gold as long as you've been
collecting blessings)
'Master Ring' (1 gold per ring per encounter)

Reloading trick...dashboard, press start on game, then quit. Then reload the game right where you left off. I did this over 300 times throughout my entire play of the game and I never lost any save data, let me know if you have. I use it mainly to get the best rewards for each card and to find the items I need at shops.

Might be a silly question but can you list all of the Dragon Relic items?

No Problem man, here they are.
Dragon Tongue (Sword)
Dragon Shield (Shield)
Dragon Armour (Armour)
Dragon Helm (Helm)
Dragon Claws (Gauntlets)
Dragon Breath (Artifact)
Dragon Ring (Ring)

So 7 total. The ring is the only one you have to not worry about putting in your equipment deck. the other 6 are all obtained from the final quest card in the dragon questline.

Just a heads up for everyone. I've just this second unlocked this and I didn't have the Dragons Breath artefact so it looks like this may not be needed.

I would just like to point out that I had all items other than the Dragon's Breath artefact but it still did not unlock. Either this is bugged or the issue has been fixed, but I think you would need all 7 now

Right after writing that last comment I found the artefact and it unlocked immediately afterwards, so people should presume they now need all of them

There may be the slight possibility that this achievement doesn't unlock on apprentice difficulty as I picked all seven up on a speed run to try and land the apprentice quests but no cigar.

Hm, I got all pieces on The Dealer on Warlord, but it hasn't unlocked yet. Maybe it can't unlock on anything other than Adventurer?

I haven't played the game since the dlc came out. IF anyone discovers any new requirements for the achievement, please list them and I will credit you in the guide. Thank you.

Might be good to list how much each item costs in the shops both with & without the guild ring so people can plan ahead easier? I will keep tabs on how much they cost as I try to find them.

Disregard that, it was simply slow in unlocking. I can confirm it unlocks on Warlord.

I'd add the Master Ring as a good one to have - it gives you 1 gold per ring per encounter. Considering that you'll probably have a lot of rings anyway, you're looking at a lot of "free" gold. I was getting 7 gold per step in the run in which I finally got this achievement.

(Collectible)

Collect and unlock all encounters and equipment related to the dragon relic (see spoiler below for details)

Thanks to astresnoir for sharing how to unlock all Dragon Relic items:

First play until you unlock the Tavern event card, which a dude wants you to recovery the ship and treasure from pirates choose to help him. It's a two stage roll; on the first roll you want a fail and a huge success on the second roll. Following is a event fight with a Dust King and several dust. Win the fight and make sure you have more than 60 HP left. Then choose attack the captain after the fight. You will be dealt 3 HP pain cards and one of them is a 50 HP one. If you survive, then the token is yours.

The 2nd stage requires 10 gold which is not hard.
The 3rd stage requires 150 gold to translate the pamphlet.
The 4th stage requires a glove gear equipped to proceed
The 5th stage requires 50 food to go on the pilgrimage.
The 6th stage requires you to have several blessings in order to get the high priestess to talk to you. I'm not sure on the exact number. I think 5 will do. NemoG's comment: You need for and can have 0 curses! (you may do this on Apprentice

In the last stage, just pick a fail and the token is yours. Griever noted that you need above 110 hp to get the token.

Finally for the dragon relic trophy, you need the dragon ring from a mage shop as well because it's the only way to obtain the ring. Once you have all the items unlocked, you'll have to equip all of them at once. This (as all other equipment trophies) can best be done in the jack of skulls trail. Make sure you edit your deck before you start. Fill it with boosting cards and make sure you have all pieces in your equipment. Now add some luck and you will have equipped all pieces and get the trophy.

To open dragon relics, you need to complete a chain of quests after which the following will become available: Dragon Armor, Dragon Helmet, Dragon Claws (gloves), Dragon Tongue (sword), Dragon Shield and Dragon's Breath (artifact). To get the trophy, you need to equip all these things at the same time (the artifact is not required) and also the Dragon Ring (it is available for purchase in the store).

All armor is issued only after completing a whole chain of quests (cards with a copper sun). The kit includes:
  • Dragon armor
  • Dragon Helmet
  • Dragon Claws (Gloves)
  • Dragon tongue (sword)
  • Dragon Shield
  • Breath of the Dragon (artifact is required !! only issued with it!!!)
  • Dragon Ring (only available in the store)
To defeat the main boss ( Petward ), it is advisable to have 120 HP and draw the “Failure” card.
The achievement is not awarded on the Apprentice difficulty level.

And now about how to equip all the relics after unlocking them:
1. Select the adventure mode - King of Dust (a fairly long scenario, the dealer shuffles ambush cards, for which equipment drops).
2. Leave only the dragon set in the item deck, filling the rest with rings.
3. Take the fate card (difficulty level) Explorer. His ability to move around already visited maps does not require food (this is key), and the helmet gives bonus gold and shows the exit from the location.
4. Build an event deck from cards with maximum rewards, incl. with difficult fights like the kraken. The main thing is the reward.
During the game, you will see an exit at each location. Immediately go to him, this will open all the location cards at the expense of the starting ring. Then you can already plan the passage of maps. For example, before visiting Ser Laonel, sell your shield and absolutely take the dragon shield from him. Clear all battles. Here the principle is simple - you see a difficult battle and feel that you won’t have enough health, so you jump on already completed maps until you are completely restored. Using this method, you clear all the cards, save up gold, and some of the items will fall out. You see a shop or a craftsman, you can visit them an infinite number of times, the assortment will be updated, and eventually the missing parts of the set will appear.
