How to unlock the Very Unlucky achievement in Hand of Fate - Definitive Guide

Choose a game story mission farther down the list, I prefer King Of Plague.

Cards to have in deck:
Encounter cards

RIVER (A must have)
Wheel of the gods(optional, but extremely helpful)

Equipment

Clairvoyant Helm (optional, but extremely helpful)
Ring of engorging(optional, but extremely helpful)
Guild ring(optional, but extremely helpful)
Any heavy armor(optional, but extremely helpful)

The clairvoyant helm will highlight a failure card every time...so no need to guess or hope...if you can get the helm you can choose correct 12 times in a row.

The ring of engorging will double all food when bought, this makes it 30 gold for 20 food!

The guild ring takes 20% off food price, that makes 20 food only 24 gold!

The heavy armor makes you loose a success attempt from river and is replace by a fail.

Wheel of the gods will sometimes give you the food value equivalent to your health, but you must pull a huge success!

Now you will need at least 24 food once you find the river...so buy food at all times possible, the shop sells 10 food for 30 gold.

Now if you have all this equipment and or a lot of food find the river card and move to it....try to pick a fail card, now move to the next card and then back to the river.... REPEAT this until the achievement pops!

Good luck, questions or concerns? Please post below. Thank you!

I tried this but I end up dying due to the pain cards before I get 12 failures. Is it 12 failures in a row, or can I die and retry until I reach 12?

Must be in a single game, not a row.

Can this be obtained in Endless?

Shadow Agent Fate from the DLC makes it very easy to follow this guide. Also thought I would mention that you cannot get this on Easy

Ring of Exchange combined with those other rings and Scavenger Helm will get you tons of food. I was buying a sword for 10 gold and selling it for 9 food. There's another ring that gives you two food every time you sell something too. Only put the Clairvoyant Helm on once you get to the River.

Also, I love that the dealer went meta with his narration on this one.

Such lamentable misfortune. Perhaps this achievement will help to soothe the sting.

I think I ironically got lucky with the pain cards I drew, as I hardly lost any heath over the 12 I got. All the health I lost was immediately healed by the food I had eaten from going between the River encounter and any neighbouring ones. Didn’t have the clairvoyant helm either.

Shadow Agent Fate is a big help too.

Annoyingly, I managed to set it up in one of my attempts where I had over 250 food, over 350 health and a ton of gold. (Wheel of the Gods). I also had heavy armour and a clairvoyant helm. But of course, I went through the entire game without encountering the River...it’s always the way in this game.

However, this one’s a lot easier to get compared to Very Lucky. I think I got the hang of following the cards more too.

So I just found the easiest way to unlock both " Very Lucky" and "Very Unlucky" in a single session, but it requires the Wildcards DLC.
So you set up a game (I did it on Jack of Skulls) while using the "Explorer's Gift" wildcard from the DLC and having the "River" encounter in your deck. The other encounter cards and items you choose don't really matter. Start the session and try to find the "River".
Once you did, simply hop onto the card and pick whatever you like. The wildcard allows you to hop onto the card again and again without you ever having to worry about food or health. Just repeat it until both achievements are yours. 😎

NOT ACHIEVABLE ON apprentice

I completed this achievement without purchasing the DLC.

After finishing the Kraken Quest you unlock a card called [b]Sunken Treasure,, I scored 6 failures and two Huge failures on this one encounter card alone,

My deck was stacked with encounter cards that offered draw opportunities so after this I aimed for failure and got it.

Also Huge Failures count towards the total you do not need either 12 failures or 12 Huge as the description suggests, as long as 12 cards in total are not successful you will get this achievement.

Personally I obtained 8 failures and 4 Huge failures, so the title is a little misleading

All of the other solutions are great, but the easiest way I found to do this is to play the Queen of Scales level, which includes the card "Lost in Swamp."

Make sure before attempting this that you have the Clairvoyant helm equipped and at least 12 food, and step onto this card.

This way you can just pick the red highlighted failure card 12 times in a row with no consequences other than losing one food each time. There is no jumping back and forth between cards as you will stay on the card as long as you continually choose failure.

(Difficulty)

You cannot get this trophy by playing on Apprentice difficulty.

See Very Lucky, but get the failure cards instead of success cards. Same tactics apply.

Similar to the previous trophy, only this time we take out the “Failure” card

The description for the trophy is not described correctly, you need to get not 15 cards, but 12, at the Apprentice difficulty level you won’t be able to get the trophy, we try to accumulate about 150, 200 coins, put the River card in the deck and pray to God that you have the right one when approaching it amount and there is a store nearby where you can buy food, the easiest way for me was to get the trophy on the Knave of Scales.

To increase the chance of failure, you need to wear the heaviest armor.
