How to unlock the Wretched Soul achievement in Hand of Fate - Definitive Guide
A ways into the story you will come to the card Queen of Plague, when taking on her dungeon you will probably run into a card called the "cursed gambler" Whenever you fail his game, he gives you the choice of two curses to attach to your character. Often he will let you play him several times in a row, and with only a 1 in 4 chance of beating him, most likely you are going to be able to rack up several curses in one go. The first time I ran into him, I ended up being able to get 6 curses.
When selecting curses from the gambler, also look for the curse that attaches a curse every time you buy an item. This will help you build up even more curses quickly as long as you can keep enough gold until you find a shop (a lot of curses seem to deal with taking gold away from you for certain actions).
Another place to get this that makes it easy to do is once you get to the end of the story you have to face the deal. You will start with a curse that causes you to get another curse every time you go to the next floor. I got this achievement on the last floor before facing him, you will have to try to pick up a few extra curses on the floors as you go along though in order to get all 10.
Thanks to RULEi for reminding me the name of where in the story you first start seeing the "cursed gambler"!

When you select your main opponent the Dealer will always lock specific cards to your deck, deal specific enemies, and give you certain advantages or disadvantages. You can use this to your advantage to gain this achievement.
When selecting the Queen of Skulls as your opponent (3rd row, first column), the Dealer will deal you two curses. These will always be the same and do the following two things:
- They will cause you to draw a curse every time you buy an item
- They will cause all merchants to sell their items for cheap
Firstly, these two courses count against the ten curses you need to amass. Second, they make it really easy to gain curses. While playing this opponent you will also, in my opinion, be awarded quite a bit of gold which makes it even easier, not to mention that the Dealer includes a few extra merchants just to make it easier for you to find them.
To get more curses you will simply need to buy items. Each item will give you one curse. You should be able to buy items, exit the merchant, travel away and back again to see more items if you bought a few as the merchant will replenish his stock to always have four items in it. This makes it easy to spend your gold at the same merchant.
Most curses are not that bad but I would suggest you quit to the dashboard and exit the game when you are dealt the curse that you can no longer sell items. The reason is that you want to buy and then sell items to get back some money to buy yet more items.
Using this strategy you will be able to quite comfortably acquire ten curses.

Thank you for your feedback. There are other great deck additions, both encounters and treasure but you aren't likely to have most of those when you first get to the third row. This solution is quite solid as it can be reattempted consistently once you have reached the required opponent.

Play endless mode once you have played through the story and unlocked some decent equipment. The dealer will draw a pain card at every level and eventually will start giving you cards that raise the stats of certain enemies. Those count as curses. He will also give one that raise the damage dealt from traps. This too counts as a curse. Make sure you open the Cursed Chest when it comes up as well. It will give you 3-5 curses depending on what level you are on.
(Difficulty)
You cannot get this trophy by playing on Apprentice difficulty.
Many events can give you curses, to name a few: Cursed Gambler, Cursed Treasure, Captain's Woes, A Wife's Fury, among many others. A Great place to do this is Queen of Skulls:
You will get the curse Haunted, it makes you gain a curse every time you buy an item and make all items cheaper. You will start with these two so only have to gain 8 more for the trophy. It's recommended that you go for this at the same time as the Bling! trophy.
Also, you can do it in endless mode as you have a chance of getting cursed every time when going a level deeper.

I did it in a story playthrough where the boss was a rat (line 3 of the book). He has an encounter where you try your luck at the tavern. If you fail, you need to choose “Failure”, a curse is issued. I got about 5 or 6 curses from taverns. There is also a "Cursed Treasure" card. It gives tons of gold + 5 curses.
