You don't actually have to level up 100 different items, or even level up an item at all.
Despite what the achievement description seems to imply, you only need to perform the level up action on an item 100 times.... not actually make an item level up.
I took one of my premium items, that take a ton of XP to level up, and simply dumped 100 items into it, one at a time, until the achievement popped. Since I had a lot of junk items left over from getting the 500 items achievement, this was easily accomplished with minimal time spent.

Good solution. Found this out too awhile back. A lot easier/cheaper than actually raising an item level.

This achievement is retroactive and will unlock if you filled the requirement on the Xbox 360 version.
This may seem daunting, but you can boost it quickly if you have a lot of Happy Stars to work with. Go into Happy Cards Lite, and start buying as many card packs as you need/can.
Under the Character menu, choose Item Level-Up. Head to the bottom of your item list and choose any Weight Level 1 or 2 item, as they only require 200 material points to level up. Choose any two items with +100 EXP, push
to begin the level-up process, and then continue this method with all remaining items.

Just to add, if you select 2 items used to upgrade an item it will only count as 1 level-up. So instead of using (up to 8) multiple items, you can just do one at a time.

That simplifies my description, heheh. But yeah, that is the best way. Just use level 1 items with a low weight until you've exhausted them all.
