In total you will need 24,400 xp to reach rank 20, this will take approximately 5-10 hours depending on how long matchmaking takes and how well you do.
Note: If you do plan on completing the game then reaching rank 20 will come before it as you need to achieve lvl 26 to unlock the final mission
also if you're new i suggest using cleric more for xp to begin with as most of the enemy teams will have higher gear and such, or try doing co-op and getting team skill kills.

You will need to reach rank 20 by playing multiplayer matches in either Quick Match or Co-op. As you keep playing matches and gain experience, your rank will increase.
I recommend playing a lot of Quick Matches because it seems to be quicker for gain experience.
