First: you must have a repair kit, which can be obtained as salvage on almost any ship, or purchased at the shop terminal in the shipbreaking area (just to the left when you exit your habitat).
Then: in your habitat approach the WORKSTATION and access the EQUIPMENT computer, then select equipment, and press
on any equipment that is less than 100% durability and you will get the achievement.

So technically, "FIRST" you need equipment that needs to be repaired, THEN you need a repair kit.

Equipment is damaged gradually through normally playing the game. You also start the game with equipment automatically equipped and must play a bit before being able to access your hab, where the repair screen exists.
