How to unlock the Challenge Mode Extreme achievement in Harry Potter for Kinect - Definitive Guide

There were only two challenges in the extreme mode that will give you any trouble.

The first is the Mandrake planting challenge. The best advise I can give is to be slow and deliberate when hovering the hand icon over the mandrake when you are choosing it. Once you have a hold of the Mandrake, move your hand back and forth as fast as possible. Always chose to plant in the pot closest to you. You will only have to repel slugs one time and there will be two plants you have to us the repellent on. When watering the plants, the lower you hold your hand , the faster the water pours. No wasted movement and you should have this one done in no tiem.

The last extreme challenge is the hardest part of the game by far which is on the roller coaster in Gringott's bank. Repetition and control are your best friends. I would recommend doing the map 2-3 times trying to remember the turns. The most important thing is to get your timing down on when to lean going into the curves and when to let go of your lean. It gets faster after each dodging stage so you will go through your leans more quickly. The other biggest time grabs are the parts where you have to lean on one rail only. Try to make the lean as slight as possible so that you can get both wheels back on the track until the next lean.

This took me between 10-15 tries before I finally finished with a time just under 44 seconds. Practice makes perfect!

I seem to have a hard time changing spells. I kind of understand it, but I had to be somewhat strategic when I do change them. I yell at my Kinect to change them, but have to rely on my arm movements to change them though.

How do you beat the duel without getting hit? Protego does not block spells.

I never really used protego during the story or in the duels. You have to get a good rhythm down stepping from side to side to avoid the spells will casting in between. You can get your timing down to where your spell hits them as they are casting so they don't have time to block. Don't cast more than one maybe two spells at a time before moving. When you do cast, stick to using stupefy first to knock them down and the hit them with incendio while they are on the ground. Sometimes when you knock them down, you can keep them down for long periods of time if you time additional stupefy attacks correctly. If you get comfortable, you can throw in a levioso and then bash them with incendio while they are in the air. Just make sure you keep your rhythm and it should be very easy.

I didn't really cover dueling because I felt if you got to this point, you would have it down. I only covered the two challenges that I felt were hardest, so if you down voted, that's not cool.

The challenge mode is first unlocked when you complete the main storyline. Casual Challenge mode is available first, completing Casual unlocks Advanced and completing Advanced unlocks Extreme.

Each of the challenge modes consist of 3 tiers of mini games for a total of 6 games. They are all variations on the storyline games with specific requirements. Starting the challenge mode gives you access to the 3 low tier challenges. Completing all 3 of those gives you access to the two middle tier challenges and completing those unlocks the final tier and the final challenge. Completing the final challenge unlocks the achievement for completing the challenge mode.

I won't go into detail for each challenge however the requirements are very clearly laid out. Many of the games require a minimum number of something however the game continues until you fail it. For example Dodge 55 obstacles in the Tri-Wizard Maze is one of the Advanced Challenges. The game will continue after you have dodged the 55th obstacle however at any time after this you can hit an obstacle to end the challenge and it will count as complete.

A couple of the spell casting challenges do have a finite number of targets so if there is no clear way to fail continue until the challenge ends. The third way for a challenge to finish is a timer. If the challenge has a time limit simply continue until the time runs out. The game does have the requirement and your progress clearly displayed as you play the challenge so it is easy to see when you have reached the passing mark.

hupheryspangler has some excellent advice for some of the more difficult challenges for Extreme in his solution. Be sure to read up on those if you are having trouble.

While in Dumbledore's Office, go to his desk to select challenge mode. Play all of the extreme challenges and beat them for this achievement. It is best to complete the story before attempting these because they are all redoes to minigames during the story. Just keep trying at these, the two that were the most annoying for me was the Greenhouse one and the Minecart track one. For the greenhouse one just try to move the agitated plants to the closest empty pot not the ones open at the far end right away. Also there will be two slug attacks back to back, so don't put away your repellent until you get those two. For the Minecart track one, try to memorize the track, only lift your cart just slightly when going over broken track. And try to get past the first part without having over a second of lift time or so. Just keep trying at both of these and you should get them with a little practice.
