How to unlock the Thar she blows achievement in Haven - Definitive Guide

Edit: Dev response thanks to WhiterValkyrie for asking! You just have to spend 2-3 days without coming back to the nest for this creature to appear.

If you stay out late enough a giant angry whale will menacingly start following you. I don’t recommend fighting unless you have at least 2 healing balms, some blast/impact capsules, and preferably if your duo attack damage is maxed.

I believe the whale has 3 stages in the fight:

First phase easy peazy just deal damage using duo blast then duo impact.

Second phase it’ll have either a red or green aura. The red is weak to only DUO blast while the green is weak to only DUO impact

And finally the third phase is when it starts charging up its laser attack. Plenty of time to prep your shields and wait for it to attack. Not worth trying to squeeze in one more hit, trust me. I believe it attacks in two successions so wait for that second attack. After the second laser it should be stunned and you’re good to continue the combo.

Now for actually getting some damage on this unit you’re going to want to hit it with a blast or impact capsule while it’s stunned. Charging up duo attacks takes too long in comparison to having one/both of you using a capsule attack. Good luck and remember to block!

So for me I afked in an island for like 45 minutes and nothing happened. Once i went elsewhere to go eat food at a camp the earthquake happened as soon as I switched places. I went back thinking he was coming for another 10 minutes. Still did not come so I left once again to go camp cause Yu and Kay we’re starving once I got back to the island he showed up immediately so for me I had to leave the land and come back to trigger both quake and his arrival. Very annoying achievement

Camping and eating is a very good idea to avoid fighting it hungry. I found the tonic really helpful in the second phase to get attacks off quicker in time.

Key is to use the speed tonic. Lets you charge duo attacks fast enough to hit him when he's stunned

first phase you can just duo impact him the whole time much easier. When stunned you don't have to line it up so you don't need a tonic.

second phase I can't see an aura. I have seen videos where i should be able to but for some reason in my game I can't.

Just to be clear - you don't need to be tired/hungry and don't need to be in a rust zone. Got it immediately after eating at a camp and changing zones, neither zone had rust.

I would recommend blocking the lasers in phase 3 with both characters and as soon as one was attacked this one needs to charge a tonics to do the tonic ram attack. This should hit the boss as soon as he is dizzy due to the second laser attack (blocked by the other character. If timed correctly one hit deals a damage of 1000 and this 2 to 3 times should finish the boss. Hope that helps …

I'm pretty sure it spawns when you don't sleep for a long time. It's the punishment for ignoring the need to rest.

Seeing as you got it early on and I discovered almost all areas before the rumbling. There was a specific place I found the tremors twice, but could have been coinciden

Ok I can spawn this at will now. You need to wait a full day in game anywhere really for 25 minutes to get it shake the screen. In order for it to show up you need to be in an area with rust. Shit you cleared out all the rust like I did???? Go to the top upper left corner of the map there will always be rust there.

I waited in a non rust area to get the initial screen shake/roar and made my way to the area I mentioned and he didn't appear. Thats ok you just need to sit some more like for about 5-7 minutes.

Seems this fight has to be done hungry so don't rest or eat or it will reset. Also go into settings and sett enemy attack speed to slow and damage to light.

This optional boss has a unique spawn requirement. You must stay outside the Nest for a few in-game days (which can be about 20-30 minutes of game time), and you will start to see the screen distort and earthquakes happen. This is how you know it will show up soon, and it can show up on any island. At this time, I'd suggest getting to a Camp and healing fully, then transitioning to a new island so your game saves. The whale is slow, so you can outrun it if you need to get to Camp first. I would highly suggest having a speed tonic and a few healing balms available for this fight, as it is by far the most difficult in the game.

Once the battle starts, there will be three phases. The first phase is simple enough, just use a Duo-Blast followed by a Duo-Impact and repeat until the health bar gets to yellow. The second phase is similarly easy, you need to match your attacks to the glow around its body: use Duo-Blast while it is red and Duo-Impact while it is green. The third phase will see the boss charge up a laser attack that hits twice in a row. You want to make sure you are shielding with one character when it fires and immediately charge and shield with the other character to block the second shot. This will do a ton of damage without blocking (as does pretty much all its attacks, so block often in the first two phases as well).

Once trick I found during the third phase, and I'm not sure how it worked, was doing basic Impact attacks with each character staggered like one second apart. Somehow this put the boss into a constant state of disruption and it was unable to charge its laser or attack in any way. It took a long time to whittle down its massive health, but I also didn't have to worry about timing my attacks versus shielding agains the laser, so it was a really nice method. It takes way too long to charge up anything but a Level 1 Duo attack after the lasers, so using basic attacks is preferred anyway.

This boss is mostly a test of your blocking skills and your patience, so take your time to heal when necessary and don't try to get in too many hits between attacks. Taking unshielded damage is a sure way to lose.

If you stay late, a giant angry whale will begin to follow you menacingly. I don't recommend fighting unless you have at least 2 healing balms, some burst/impact capsules, and preferably if you have max damage from the duo's attack.

I believe that a whale has 3 stages in battle:

The first phase is easy, just deal damage using double blast, then double strike.

The second phase will have a red or green aura. Red is weak for DUO Blast only, and Green is weak for DUO Punch only.

And finally, the third phase is when he starts charging up his laser attack. You will have enough time to prepare your shields and wait for them to attack. There's no point in trying to squeeze in another hit, trust me. I believe he attacks in two series, so wait for the second attack. After the second laser he should be stunned and you can continue the combo.

Now, to actually deal some damage to this unit, you need to hit it with an Explosive or Impact Capsule while it's stunned. Charging dual attacks takes too long compared to when one/both of you use a capsule attack. Good luck and don't forget to block!

I received it after the whole story, when all the locations were cleared. Keith refused to show up. I moved to the Wakiri location, where the rust does not disappear, and a whale appeared there.

Let me summarize the tips above a little.
It is highly advisable to leave the trophy for last, after completing the game, so that the heroes are already fully upgraded.
The whale appears after a long time without sleep (and possibly food). A whale can appear even in an area cleared of rust.

So:
1. Let's go home, craft completely healing ointments and speed tonics. We sleep, we eat.
2. We look for an area with a camp on the map. Let's move there.
3 We are waiting for the game day (22-24 minutes). At the same time, we don’t sleep or eat. In theory, now the heroes will start talking about hunger. We move to the neighboring zone.
4. Signs of the appearance of a whale will be an animal roar, shaking of the earth, and remarks from the heroes about “something strange.” If any of the above happens, then we exit the game (thus preserving the first signs of the whale’s appearance). Let's boot back.
5. As soon as the boss appears, we go around him (fortunately he is not fast) and move back to the area with the camp. We eat and fly back to the area where the whale was. After moving, I recommend exiting and making a backup save.
6. Actually everything. We go back and kill the boss according to the above recommendations.

If the boss has not appeared, then we continue to comply with the conditions from point 3 and at the same time move around the zones closest to the camp at intervals of 5-10 minutes.
