How to unlock the EMPowerless achievement in Hawken - Definitive Guide

This is a lot less time consuming after the latest update.

You can now buy EMP MK-III for 2563 credits for any of your mechs and get it done with it.

Just select your preferred mech, select ITEMS via left side menu, scroll to EMP MK-III buy and equip it. And go to match or find boosting partner and kill em while they are under effect of emp.

Thanks for adding this, also worth mentioning that you can totally do this in co-op team death match vs bots (there were no pvp servers up when I checked the server browser)

This is really awesome. I thought we were going to be boosting this for a long time to unlock the extra mechs or buying one. +1

Edit: My guide is now outdated. Rayleigh187 has posted an updated guide. I will keep this guide up however because it is still a plausible way to get the achievement and still has some good information.

There are two mechs that come with the EMP automatically equipped. Those two mechs are the Marauder and the Raider. The Marauder is the closest to being unlocked from the start. From the Web view of the mechs, buy the mech to the left of the starting mech as you will need to get past it unless you plan on using buyable in-game currency. After that there will be 3 mechs to chose from, chose the one above the Berserker (the one you just bought). From there, you will need to buy the next one up, that will be the Marauder and it will contain the ability to EMP enemies.

Note: This achievement was glitchy for me, I had to fulfill the requirements 3 times before it gave me my achievement.

EDIT: If you're finding the process of getting credits too boring or long, then know that the amount of credits for a match is determined by how long you are in the match and if you win or lose (meaning you can afk and still get roughly the same amount of credits). There are also many challenges in the game that give credits .

There is reference in game and online to a Garage where you can equip different items on your Mech but i have been unable to find a way to do so.

Same here, which is why this is the solution I have come up with for now.

I believe I understand how to get EMP on any mech, when you reach pilot level 10 you can equip EMP items to your mechs, when you reach mech level 5 it gives you the option to change weapons for that mech. This is from what I understand according to the Hawken guide here https://www.playhawken.com/game-guide/progression/upgrades

You're right, it's more efficient just to save up for the Marauder mech.

I'm lvl5 now with the CRT mech (the first one you have) and I cannot change anything from the weapon/equipment!

I assume that the guide is for the pc version which is way ahead of the x1 version.

This achievement may not be glitched, it is just that the EMP effect lasts for a very short time. So, my suggestion is for your boosting partner to get to very low health and shoot the EMP at them and immediately shot them too and the achievement should pop.

I did it without a boosting partner and did it the exact same way all three times, but it only decided to pop on the third time.

It popped the first time I tried.
You have to kill the enemy EXACTLY when the green EMP lightings are around him.
(They last only a few seconds, 4 sec. I believe.)

Possible to get IEM with Reaper (IEM MK-III)

But the time to reach mech lvl5 is almost as long as to get a mec with an emp device.
I will test it since I'm close to the 90k for lvl5.

I'm almost at the amount need to buy the Marauder and level 13. But my higher Mech rank is 2, as I keep swapping which one I play with. Glad this is my final achievement so I can get the game done.

The EMP is available on two mechs but the easiest to obtain is the Marauder, shown on the grid below:

Once you've obtained the Marauder mech, focus on getting enemies down to low health then using the EMP on them with before finishing them off.

Make sure to keep your distance from enemies when you release the EMP or it will effect yourself as well. If you hit an enemy with the EMP it will instantly detonate, disabling the weapons of any mechs within its area of effect.

If you're not concerned about your stats in the game at all and just want the trophies I suggest that any time you use the EMP, if you fail to earn this trophy, you go ahead and kill yourself with your secondary fire (). The marauders secondary fire is explosive damage and doing so will count as progress towards I've Made a Huge Mistake, if you've not already earned that.

There are only two mechs that have the EMP item:

  • Marauder - 9,800 credits
  • Raider - 9,800 credits

Using the ‘Web’ view, from your starting mech (the CR-T Recruit), the Marauder is found by going left once and up twice. You first need to purchase the Berserker for 5,000 credits and the Vanguard for 7,000 credits.  This will cost you a total of 21,800 credits.

Using the ‘Web’ view, from your starting mech (the CR-T Recruit), the Raider is found by going right once and up (to the left) twice.  You first need to purchase the Assault for 5,000 credits and the Scout for 7,000 credits.  This will cost you a total of 21,800 credits.

To active the EMP press . The EMPs effect does not last very long. So be sure to active it when an enemy mech is very near death. Also you only get one EMP per life. The EMP item can be upgraded to make its effect last longer.

Note: This can only be done in Online Versus match, not in an Offline Team Deathmatch.

I did it on the Raider, he has 2 EMP skills. I advise you to throw directly at the enemy, i.e. stay closer, then you have about 1-2 seconds to kill.
Easier to do in team battles against bots.

There are two types of EMP items in the game: ISM Destroyer MK1 and EMP MK1 (both can be upgraded to MK2).
Mechs that can carry Emi:
  • Marauder
  • G2-Marauder
  • Raider
  • G2-Raider
  • Stormtrooper
  • G2-Stormtrooper
You can use anyone, but first you need to reach them through the development branch and buy them. The cheapest and fastest way to do this is with a Stormtrooper (to the right along the branch).

This can only be done by a Raider or a Marauder and only an em...destroyer will not work (checked personally). The trophy is easily obtained with bots in KB.
