How to unlock the Duck in action achievement in Heart Box - Definitive Guide
In this mode the heart box is replaced by a rubber ducky, and the goal is replaced by a bath. Really, it doesn't change the game or solution though.
Bathe the ducky! mode is a combination of everything before. There are American footballs that fly across the screen to knock your duck out, and a timer (somewhat more generous than Do not Discharge mode's timer). One hit, or run out of time and the level is over.
What is not explained to you is, you can click the footballs to deflect them before they hit you, and this also gains you a small increase in time allowed! I'm sure, like me, many people struggled with this at first as the footballs come at you quite fast, although they can't change trajectory they do seem to launch at just the right angle to nearly always get you. Once you realise you can click them away, this mode becomes much easier.
If you do fail a level, you will get an option to watch an ad for a timer extension, although no armour like "Survive!" mode so you will still need to juggle completing the level as normal, along with deflecting the footballs.
The solutions to each level remain the same as the basic "Put On Charger" mode - the game developer has a great walkthrough series on YouTube here: Heart Box Walkthrough
There are a total of 200 levels in the game and there are four variants you can play them in, described below. You must complete them in each variant to unlock the next, so they are unlocked in the order listed.
- "Put on charger!" - this is normal mode. No restrictions, no limitations or stipulations. Just try to solve the level.
- "Don't discharge!" - there is a battery timer across the top of the screen that drains as time passes. Tapping on blocks, dynamite, balloons, etc., all add time to the meter. You must finish the level without running out of time.
- "Survive!" - boxing gloves come flying in from a random side of the screen and home in on your box. Moving the box doesn't help. The boxing gloves just change direction. You must tap on them to destroy them.
- "Bathe the ducky!" - the box is replaced by a rubber duck with slightly altered physics. There is a timer at the top of the screen that works just like the previous one (tapping blocks adds time). There are also footballs that fly in onto the screen. These are NOT homing. You can simply move the duck to dodge them, or tap on the footballs to deflect them away. Deflecting footballs also adds time to the meter.
Despite there being four variants for each level, there is only one solution for each level. So once you beat the normal version of the level you'll then need to replay it three more times with each of the other three variants. As far as the actual solutions for levels, the solution is almost always very obvious or easily determined with a minute or so of trial and error. The difficulty in this game is largely the dexterity required to complete the level, not actually solving how to beat it. However, if you are ever stuck and aren't sure how to complete a level, you have two options:
- In the lower left corner of the screen is a question mark during a level. You can tap on this at any time and then watch a 30-second ad to get a hint. The hint actually just walks you through the level, showing you how to complete it. You just follow along
- The developers have released video guides for all levels, which you can consult as needed. I definitely don't recommend watching all of the videos since, as I said, over 90% of the levels are extremely obvious as to how to complete them. But if you're ever stuck, here is the link to their playlist: All Level Solutions
The normal mode is straightforward enough to complete. The other variants pose additional challenges. I've provided some tips for each mode.
"Don't discharge!" Mode
Every block you tap (the yellow and black ones, dynamite, balloons, etc.) adds time to your meter. In many levels, to complete them in normal mode you don't need to tap all blocks, such as when you make ramps by tapping one block. In this mode you'll absolutely need to tap every block on the screen to get extra time. For example, tap one block to make a ramp as needed, and then as soon as the object slides down the ramp tap the other block just to add time. You'll have to move quickly on many levels. Worst case, where the hint icon normally is, you can click on the icon there to add additional time to your meter for your next attempt by watching a 30-second ad. The extra time from this should be plenty, as long as you already know what you're doing. You never need the extra time though; I completed every level without it. But it is there in case you want to use it.
"Survive!" Mode
You'll grow to hate these boxing gloves. They're very easy to deal with in the early levels but in the last 50 or so levels they can be insanely cheap and annoying. The thing to remember is that they come in every couple seconds at a fixed interval. So since you have no time limit here, you should be making moves in fixed amounts, stopping at safe points to destroy the boxing gloves before moving on. Thankfully there aren't too many levels without multiple safe points to stop and destroy gloves, but there are some that will test your patience and dexterity, where you need to make multiple timed moves in a row and it doesn't feel like you have any time to stop and tap on a boxing glove and then come back. You'll have to stay alert and be quick. Similarly to the previous mode, you can tap where the hint icon normally is and watch an ad to add armor to your box. I've never used this so I can't say for sure how well it works (for example, whether the boxing glove still sends your box flying or not) but you still have it as an option in case you're struggling.
"Bathe the ducky!" Mode
Despite this mode having both a timer and footballs flying at your duck, I found it easier than the previous two modes. Tapping on the footballs actually adds time here, not just tapping on blocks, so the timer is virtually never an issue in these levels. The footballs, unlike the boxing gloves, are NOT homing. They enter the screen and fly in a set direction. They won't change direction, so if you're moving your duck then you can easily dodge the footballs. The only oddball thing here is the different physics of the duck. In many levels it has virtually no effect on the level solution, but in some levels just be ready to tweak your solution slightly, since the duck will bounce higher, launch farther, and move easier (less friction). The solution is the same in general, but you may need different timing.
