Ammo boxes "reload" after five minutes. The first rank rifleman class has this unlocked,, so just drop a box every time it "reloads."
Although there is a slightly faster way to get this done, which is by unlocking the second rank for the support class (level three). The second rank for support class is able to drop both explosive ammo and weapon ammo crates, as well as a supplies box (the medics bandage box counts towards the achievement as well). This makes the achievement approximately twice as fast, while also contributing to that 5000 total supplies dropped.
Try to run within the radius of a manpower node too, as that will cut the "reload" time of all ammo boxes and supplies by half.

Seems broken for me, dropping ammo boxers left & right, no progress on achievement tracker.

Hey there, sorry to hear that. What class are you using? I wrote this a couple of updates ago; I'm wondering if it got broken with the updates? Wish I could help but I can't tell as I've gotten the achievement already

This trophy is titled "I Got Your Ammo!" and requires you to drop 100 Ammo Boxes.
In order to drop ammo boxes, you must be playing as a Rifleman in an Infantry Unit. This is the only unit capable of deploying ammo boxes.
Once you spawn, switch to the ammo box with R1 or Up & Down on the control pad. Press L2 to bring up the deploy reticule when the ammo box is in-hand. Move the gray box around until it turns green and then hold down R2 to deploy the ammo box. Once deployed, you will have a five minute cool down before you are able to deploy another ammo box.
That means 12 ammo boxes can be deployed an hour. So overall, this trophy will take eight hours and 20 minutes to complete if you're fully paying attention to your time and on top of deploying the crates.
However, if you're within the area of a Munitions Resource Node, it cuts the time in half to about two and a half (2 1/2) minutes from five (5). I had noticed this timing as I sat on an artillery after someone used a supply truck and dropped supplies nearby.
