How to unlock the Samples are a diver's best friend achievement in HELLDIVERS 2 - Definitive Guide
There is really is only one way to do this but I will list a few ways which make it easier and/or harder. Also I recommend good squad instead Solo play so you do not run out of time and can also split into two groups of One or two groups of Two. If you are that confident in your skills, then you can all go Solo around the map but I would not recommend that.
My Advice:
The way I recommend doing it is on SUICIDE MISSION Difficulty as MORE Samples spawn so you have a greater chance of getting this Trophy. It does NOT matter who is carrying the samples at extraction as it will go for the whole squad so there is no need to argue or plan on who gets the samples.
How to:
When you are playing, complete the Main Objectives and Side Missions. If you are lucky, you may have a Radar Station spawn, if not, you can still do this Trophy fine but it may make it harder for those who may not be able to or like using the map.
Radar Station DID Spawn:
If you had a Radar Station spawn, go to all Minor Points of Interest and Nests on the map and look for the Rare Sample Icon (same as the Orange symbol when in the ship).
No Radar Station:
When you scroll around the map using the touchpad or D-Pad. You can highlight Minor Points of Interest, if you are semi-familiar with the POI's already then you can gather what they look like, if not, just look for buildings and out of the way areas.
Points of Interest (POI):
Points of Interest usually consist of small building with a "Salute for Freedom", Container (Orange and Blue) that you can blow up with a Grenade, in general a Rock with Samples or even a CO-OP door which requires TWO players to open the door up by both holding the button.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Points of Interest that have been fully searched will have a Diamond on it when looking at the map. I will recommend that if you find a POI with a Weapon, pick it up then replace it with the weapon you already had just so it marks the POI as "Searched" and that way you or your group won't be doing double takes on each POI.

So, it might not matter who carries them, but i think it DOES matter who collects them. Somebody died at extraction so I grabbed their sample container. After the mission, the post game said i extracted with 22 samples, but i did NOT get this trophy.
