A tip for everyone, just in case this happens to you during this achievement:
When Krubis's life bar reached about 10%, Knifey disappeared from my hand, as did the ability to press down the RS (right stick). I had to kill Krubis by shooting him with Kenny. Then I walked over to Krubis's body to obtain his DNA, but still, my RS ability and Knifey remained unavailable. And, you can't get Gus unless you've taken Krubis's DNA first.
I tried two other controllers, thinking that I had broken one. One was brand new and I connected it and updated it. But neither of them worked! The RS and Knifey were still unusable.
Which made me think. OK, I guess I'll have to reboot my Xbox. Which worked.
I've posted this comment just so you don't have to waste your time like I did fidgeting with your controllers -- clearly, this was an in-game glitch.

Non-missable story achievement.
This should unlock at the very end of the Krubis bounty. Defeat Krubis and receive Gus when you interact with the body.
Gus is a shotgun with a sawblade alternative fire mode. The blades can be lodged into certain walls to gain height/climb up.

See my comment on the other solution H3INzZ -- reboot your console to make sure Knifey reappears, so you can get Krubis's DNA and Gus the shotgun.

In order to obtain the Gus you must first defeat Krubis. All of this can be completed following these steps:
Head to the Bounty machine and select the Krubis Bounty then head through the portal to "Zephyr Paradise," the planet with Krubis' base.
Pay a visit to one of Krubis' associates (Ranchy) in the mansion who provides you with a device capable of creating teleportation warps. After finding Krubis' warp location you use the device to bring him to your current position.
Once Krubis arrives, engage in a battle to defeat him.
Following Krubis' defeat, acquire his DNA. During this process, you'll also have the opportunity to obtain Gus, the Talking Shotgun, from his remains.
This achievement is unmissable so no worries there!
