Can you re-do missions on any professional difficult if you pass the game on normal or do you need to start a new game? I don't want to loose all my completed challenges…

By CS2Freedom on 22 Nov 2012 20:16
I don't think you'll lose your challenges either way, but from what I understand, you can select individual missions. Very few people have beaten the game, so it's a little hard to tell.

So I need to start a new game? Can't I play every mission on hard? That's no good…

@CovetousCash64, Hard is the hardest difficulty you'll need to play to unlock all the achievements.

i can confirm you can use mission select if you've already done a playthrough on normal. Started it on hard and got the achievement.

LMAO at Tony, how in the hell would you use a text walkthrough on a game like this, with a vid you can see patterns of movement and where to go which will be a damn site easier than attempting to play from text, anyway, guides look great, thanx for the effort MaKa91, will continue to use your guide.

Just to clarify, starting an entire new game is not needed? I've completed A Personal Contract and King of Chinatown in the purist difficulty through level select but the rest on normal. So I can skip them and level select those I've completed on normal?

Anyone know if you have to do every hard level back to back? Like, you can't play a level on a lower difficulty until you beat the whole game on Hard? Because I know I've beat every level on Hard, but in between I played a level on Normal to get a collectible and I don't have this achievement.

Nice strategies in your videos! I know it's already been said, but I can also confirm that you are able to play through on Normal then use mission select on Hard to get this achievement. If anyone is like me then you will absolutely hate Rosewood, Countdown, and the first stage of Absolution.

So, to be the guy who asks the dumb questions: which difficulties are the 'professional' difficulties? And if there's more than 1, is there any reason not choose the easiest of them (other than pride)?

CovetousCash64: When you pick a mission you will be prompted with a difficulty selection. There's two types: "Enhanced" (Easy, Normal) and "Professional" (Hard, Expert, Purist).

To continue with the second part of my question, is there any reason not to pick 'Hard'? Eg. There doesn't seem to be an achievement for completing the game on Purist.

@Reefer
The level select doesn't indicate which difficulty the level was completed on. More than likely, you have one of the 20 missions that you didn't do yet you just don't realize which one. That's the problem with doing level select in this game, if you don't keep track manually it's easy to f-up and miss a level if you're skipping around.

I dunno if there is a points threshold required for this cheevo, but I can say that for all you chaps/chapettes out there not fussed about leaderboards and what not, you can beast through the levels killing all the baddies with wanton cruelty. Most times my game was like the police station scenes from Terminator!!

I'm working through this achievement at the moment. I did a full playthrough on normal and then started a new game on hard. I can confirm if you start a new game after completing it once you WONT lose your challenges etc. Judging by what others have said, if you decide to go with the level select option you may not unlock the achievement. Easier to start a new game on hard to make sure it counts every level completed correctly.

Does anyone know if I start a new game on Hard if it will reset my challenge progress? I've already beaten the game, and I'm working on challenges, but I also want to get this achievement in between. Should I wait until I get all the other achievements before attempting this or does it not matter? Also, if I chapter select A Personal Contract on Hard and just do the whole story, will that count or is starting a new game absolutely necessary? Thanks in advance to whomever answers this.

@Legit Spam, you clearly haven't seen the videos, there are no mistakes, and the videos are all edited to take the fastest path. The entire walkthrough is about 3.5 hours, as to where the game will take you 6-8+ hours. I have killed some people, but there are no mistakes anywhere.

I haven't looked at the video,(I want to do them on my own) so forgive me if this is covered. Is there a way to tell what levels have been done on Pro already? I though I had just done them all, but the achievement didn't unlock.
I went back at one point and redid a few levels in different ways, but switched it to normal... I think I may have continued the campaign on normal for a level or two before I realized!
Cheers

>If you vote negatively please tell me why so that I can improve my solutions<

Maybe one of you also had this problem:

I finished the game on hard difficulty but did not get the Absolution achievement.

First of all i went to level select tried to find out whether you can see which levels you already did on hard in your playthrough ( unfortunately I did not find anything that says something about the difficulty you finished each level on ). Then I noticed that there are different rates in each level which obviously depend on the things you do while playing it. I can't confirm that you need at least some points in each level on hard at the end to unlock the achievement but it seems like you need some since I repeated every mission where I did not score any points for some reason. When I still did not get the achievement after doing so I went to mission "One of a Kind" and just collected every of these 12 possible collectibles you are able to get in this mission ( just enter the door on the left side in the room and you will easily find every item downstairs whereas the last item is left to the fitting room ).
For some reason the achievement popped for me after that. I actually do not know if you need to do what I did before but it appears to me that it could have influenced getting it. As far as I remember I did not change the difficulty in "One of a Kind" in my playthrough which makes this method quite curious. Anyway I can confirm I got the achievement after doing all of these steps.
Let me know if this probably also worked for you.

Just as the description says: Beat the game on any PROFESSIONAL DIFFICULTY.

I would suggest starting the game on Hard (the first of three Professional Difficulties) and play through. The game on Hard is really not that difficult - the only real difference is you use up your instinct crazy fast.

If you find yourself stuck on a mission, chances are you are overlooking something. Seriously, every level has about 50 "hard-ways' to complete it or 1 very simple "easy-way". If you find yourself getting into a messy situation, and dying, then at the checkpoint change up your strategy.

On Hard you really need to take advantage of the stealth aspects of the game - grab disguises, use vents, crouch - you know, all the "hug-the-shadows" maneuvers. Busting down the front door and running in guns-a-blazin' will just leave you dead and starting back at the checkpoint, so do yourself a favor, take your time on these missions and learn the surroundings. Using the layout to your advantage will not only get you through these missions with minimal headaches, but it will also get this trophy done in seriously no time at all.

Questions, corrections and neg vote justifications below.

There are 5 total difficulties to choose from:

  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Expert
  • Purist

Complete each mission on Hard or higher without changing the difficulty. Pick one of those difficulties and stick with it until you have the achievement. All three are considered "professional". You have no player activated checkpoints and enemies have better than average reaction times. Also your instinct won't restore on it's own.

You always have the option to replay missions on easier settings. The game always asks you what difficulty you want to play the missions on. If you play the entire game on Normal, you can just replay missions on Hard to gain the achievement. You do not have to restart the entire game. Replaying missions will work.

You can view a video walkthrough for all levels on hard HERE.

GLITCHED: Many have reported this trophy didn't unlock for them, but it's rare to happen. There is currently no known way of preventing it. If this trophy glitches on you, delete the patch and play offline on a new save.

Note: If you didn't do your first playthrough on this difficulty, you can get the trophy via new story or level select. If you choose new story you won't lose challenge progress. Also, Maka on x360a has made a full YouTube walkthrough for each level on hard, it can be found here:

Hitman: Absolution Hard Walkthrough

The minimum difficulty you can play on for this is Hard. Hard mode means enemies will see through your disguise much easier and there will be more enemies to avoid in the missions. I advise choosing this difficulty from the get go as it isn't very difficult. Here's some tips:

  • Sneak - This is the best way to tackle hard difficulty. If you sneak the whole game you'll find it easy, but sneaking isn't always easy to do and it means waiting around for a while. Use instinct to help you see where enemies are going to walk to etc to make it easier for you.
  • Instinct - This will really help you out in certain situations. If your in a disguise and have enough instinct you can use it to cover to face and blend, this will prevent enemies seeing through your disguise. You can also do point shooting, where you freeze time and target enemies, then execute it for one shot kills on all selected targets. Use this when you have to take a few enemies out quickly at once.
  • Act Efficiently If you have to kill enemies, don't leave them to get spotted as this makes enemies suspicious. Hide them in bins, cupboards etc so enemies don't find them. Also, when using disguises you have to pick the right one for the job. For example, a police officer won't see through your disguise if your wearing a disguise that isn't a police disguise. The same works for others. The final thing to remember is trial and error, if things don't go right a certain way just restart the checkpoint and try again. If you have enough ammo though, you can just kill everybody to finish missions quickly.

POSSIBLY GLITCHED: In the PS3 verison of the game, many have reported this trophy didn't unlock for them, but it was rare to happen. It is currently unknown if this same glitch is present in the PS4 version.

Note: If you didn't do your first playthrough on this difficulty, you can get the trophy via new story or level select. If you choose new story you won't lose challenge progress. Also, Maka on x360a has made a full YouTube walkthrough for each level on hard, it can be found here: LINK

There are only 5 difficulty levels, but they are divided into 2 types: normal and pro. You need to complete the game on one of the difficulty levels, which is presented in the pro cell. It would be more rational to play on difficult.

Here are all the difficulties and their description:

Regular:

Easy:

  • Enemies pose no threat and you cannot be stopped
  • Players can activate additional checkpoints
  • Restoring the ability "instinct"
  • "Instinct" will give the player hints
  • Enemies do not react as quickly as on other difficulty levels

Medium:

  • It will be more difficult to remain completely undetected, but you can always rely on a weapon to get out of trouble
  • Players can activate additional checkpoints
  • "Instinct" is not restored
  • "Instinct" will give the player hints
  • Normal reaction time of enemies

Pro:

Hard:

  • More enemies with shorter reaction times will make it more difficult to avoid them. You have to time it down to the second.
  • Players can activate additional checkpoints
  • “Instinct” is not restored and does not provide hints
  • Additional enemies with improved reactions

Expert:

  • Each step will not be easy, to get to the goal you will have to try different options
  • Players will not be able to activate checkpoints
  • “Instinct” is not restored and does not provide hints
  • Maximum number of enemies with improved reactions

Purist:

  • A true test for perfectionists, you will die trying to achieve your goal
  • No hints, help or UI elements
  • Only the sight will be on the screen

I advise you to first go through on the normal difficulty level to unlock all additional skills (improvements). Such as “increased instinct”, “increased pain threshold”, etc.

On YouTube, the Centerstrain01 channel has videos of each chapter for the highest difficulty level, Purist. There is no need to rush or rush, absolutely all levels in the game can be completed perfectly in stealth mode. I just finished the game using this guide - perfect for hard and expert difficulty levels. You can go to the channel using the link above and watch all the videos, or start with one of the first - The King Of Chinatown . The remaining videos will be visible in the column on the right.
