How to unlock the Put Down Roots achievement in Hogwarts Legacy - Definitive Guide

There are 8 types of plants to grow in Hogwarts Legacy. Certain plants require small, medium and large pots to grow them. You won't be able to access the larger pots until you've completed the main story quest "Room of Requirement" where you unlock your own room and can place bigger planting stations. The whole process will cost you a grand total of 5,550 to acquire everything you need.

Once you've unlocked the Room of Requirement. Buy the following Spellcrafts from "Tomes and Scrolls" in Hogsmeade:
Potting Table With Medium Pot (750)
Potting Table With Large Pot (1,000)

Now conjure the Small, Medium and Large Potting tables into your Room of Requirement. Once placed we need to then source all 8 seeds to plant. These can be found at the two horticulture shops in Hogsmeade:

The Magic Neep:
Dittany (Free) - Small Pot
Fluxweed Seed (350) - Large Pot
Knotgrass Seed (350) - Small Pot
Mallowsweet Seed (200) - Small Pot
Shrivelfig Seed (450) - Medium Pot

Dogweed & Deathcap:
Chinese Chomping Cabbage Seed (600) - Medium Pot
Mandrake Seed (800) - Small Pot
Venomous Tentacula Seed (1,050) - Large Pot

Return to your Room of Requirement and plant the seeds in the appropriate pots. Small plants will take 10mins to grow, medium 12mins and large 15mins. Once you have collected all 8 from the pots at least once the achievement should pop.

If you’re like me and had trouble finding Dogweed & Deathcap, it is a named location on your map in Hogsmeade. It’s just a little ways outside of the main village to the north.

There are 8 different types of plants you can grow. First, you'll need to complete the Herbology Class main quest to unlock a small planter and automatically start growing Dittany. This planter can grow most of the other 7 plants; however, some will require a medium or large planter, which will unlock with the Room of Requirement through the main questline. Seeds for these plants can be purchased from The Magic Neep and Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade. Then simply plant them in your planters. They will grow in real time, so you'll need to wait for each to fully grow.

Dittany - Any size planter; automatically planted during Herbology Class main quest
Fluxweed - Large size planter only
Knotgrass - Any size planter
Mallowsweet - Any size planter
Shrivelfig - Medium or Large size planters only
Chinese Chomping Cabbage - Medium or Large size planters only
Venomous Tentacular - Large size planter only
Mandrake - Any size planter

In this guide we will show you how to grow all the plants in Hogwarts Legacy to earn the “Put Down Roots” Achievement/Trophy.

Growing various plants in Hogwarts Legacy has multiple benefits, as it gives you access to raw materials that can be used to make magic potions, but also to various consumables that help you in battle. For example, mandrake can temporarily stun your opponents.

To grow plants you need two things, a potting table and seeds. It is also a prerequisite that you have completed the main quest “Herbology Class”.

In the botany classroom there is a small potting table, which is enough to plant Dittany, Knotgrass, Mallowsweet and Mandrake plants. For the remaining four plants you will have to build larger potting tables (medium or large) in the Room of Requirement.

Your first step is to purchase the required seeds from “The Magic Neep” and “Dogweed and Deathcap” shops. These shops are located in Hogsmeade, the 2nd base area of the game. The seeds will require quite a bit of money, so make sure you have collected the required amount.

After obtaining all the seeds, you should then build at least one large potting table in the Room of Requirement. In it you can plant the seeds to grow the remaining four plants required to earn the Achievement/Trophy, namely Fluxweed, Shrivelfig, Chinese Chomping Cabbage and Venomous Tentacula.

In our video we have created a total of eight potting tables so that we can grow all eight plants at the same time, but of course this is not necessary. However, this process saves time, since if you only have two pots, a small one in your classroom and a large one in the Room of Requirement you will need to wait 40 minutes, and 51 minutes respectively for all the plants to sprout. With our method 15 minutes is enough to earn the Achievement/Trophy.

Below you can see in detail which potting tables are needed and how long you will have to wait for each plant to sprout

There are 8 types of plants in Hogwarts Legacy that you can grow. While you can grow most of them at your greenhouse potting station, some will have to wait until you get the Room of Requirement, as they require large and medium pots. The 8 types of plants you need to grow, and the price of the seeds (bought from either The Magic Neep or Dogweed & Deathcap) are as follows:
  • Dittany - This will mark as unlocked when you buy Dittany Seeds from the Magic Neep as part of “Welcome to Hogsmeade” quest.
  • Fluxweed - Seeds can be bought from The Magic Neep and grown in large pots.
  • Knotgrass - Purchase at The Magic Neep and grow in pots of any size.
  • Mallowsweet - Purchase at The Magic Neep and grow in pots of any size.
  • Shrivelfig - Purchase seeds from The Magic Neep and grow in a medium or large pot.
  • Chinese Chomping Cabbage - Can buy seed for 600 Galleons at Dogweed & Deathcap.
  • Venomous Tentacular - Can be found in the most south-eastern Greenhouse at Hogwarts, ripe for picking. Can also buy seed for 1,050 Galleons at Dogweed & Deathcap.
  • Mandrake - Can buy seed for 800 Galleons at Dogweed & Deathcap.
Grow at least one of each and this achievement is yours.

There are a total of 8 different plants to grow to earn this achievement. Once you unlock the Room of Requirement, you can conjure potting stations to grow your own plants.

The plants have different "pot sizing" requirements, however I simply purchased a large potting table from Scrolls and Tomes in Hogsmeade and grew them all there.

Seeds are purchased from several different vendors, however all can be bought in Hogsmeade (north of the main village) at The Magic Neep and Dogweed & Deathcap.

Pay attention to the size of the plant, they require pots of different sizes, recipes for which still need to be purchased.
