How to unlock the True Hunter achievement in Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition - Definitive Guide

This is the second of two achievements related to the Hunter's Journal, the first of which being Keen Hunter:
Hollow Knight: Voidheart EditionKeen HunterThe Keen Hunter achievement in Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition worth 41 pointsRecord all of Hallownest's creatures in the Hunter's Journal

Refer to that achievement for a full explanation of the Hunter's Journal and what is required to record all of Hallownest's Creatures.

To unlock this achievement, you must obtain the Hunter's Mark from the Hunter in Greenpath which he will award you after you record every required enemy in the journal AND unlock all of the Hunter's notes. When you first kill an enemy they get added to the journal, and aside from single encounter bosses, enemies must be killed a specific number of times (usually somewhere between 8 and 16) in order to unlock the hunter's notes on that enemy.

Small enemies respawn when you leave and re-enter an area and all non-boss enemies resapawn when you sit at a bench. The Enemies page on the Hollow Knight wiki links to individual pages for each enemy and tells you where they can be found. You'll likely need to grind out kills for many enemies to meet the requirement for unlocking the Hunter's notes, but I suggest working on this later than sooner as you will fulfill kill requirements through progression as long as you're diligent on killing enemies as you make your way through the world.

After you've unlocked the Keen Hunter achievement and then killed enough of each enemy to unlock all of the Hunter's notes, return to the Hunter and he will give you the Hunter's Mark, at which point this achievement will unlock.

Thumbs up for solution but you should add the list in for easy reference, or at least any of the tricky ones. And do you need to complete Trial of the Fool for this one?

^ Agreed.
The Lightseed enemies I think were the only ones I had trouble finding. After you complete the game the only place you can find them is in the upper right corner of the Forgotten Crossroads.
And I believe you do need to complete the 3rd trial because some of the enemies in there are not found elsewhere in the game.

You don't need to complete the Trial of the Fool because the God Tamer is also in the Pantheon of Hallownest. But you do need to complete the trial for another achievement,

There are a few enemies that only appear in the trials like Heavy Fool and Sturdy Fool, though. So you do need to play the trials enough to get enough kills for those enemies.

As for tricky enemies, I didn't really have any issues finding any so I'm not sure which are tricky. If you cross reference your journal list with my Hunter's Journal screenshots from the other solution, you can determine which you are missing and get their locations from the wiki.

Some enemies are not respawning when I sit at a bench. They do however respawn when I quit out to the main menu (leaping husk for example). Quitting to main menu also speeds up the process a little bit since you start at the bench and all your actions are saved.

In the end I put a dream portal by the enemy i needed's location and then quit to menu after each kill so i would start at the bench, then teleport to my dream gate, kill enemy and repeat.
