How to unlock the Freedom - Guerrilla achievement in Homefront - Definitive Guide

This mission is not that bad to do on guerrilla. I almost did it without dying and I'm not even close to an FPS pro.

General tips:

- You want to be patient and let your buddies do all the heavy lifting.

- Enemies do not respawn endlessly, so you can hang tight until things quiet down, though occasionally I had to move up a bit to lure the enemies back since my guys didn't have sight lines on them.

- Enemies have anger management issues and will hunt you down if they see you, which is very useful for bringing them to your shooters.

- Go with precision weapons when at all possible. I tried to keep one weapon with an ACOG sight for headshots and one burst fire weapon for close encounters.

- Speaking of headshots, they drop the KPA in one hit. Medium range headshots are your best friend in guerrilla difficulty. Also, the KPA seem pretty fragile on this difficulty. A quick burst to the body will drop them.

- Stay out of grenade range if you can manage it and get the hell out of Dodge if you see the grenade indicator.

- You can only take a few shots before dying. If you take ANY damage, hide until you are better.

- Try to conserve your ammunition, especially when you have a gun you like. Before moving on to the next section, be sure to scavenge weapons from the battlefield.

Here are some tips for the specific battles:

The Ambush

This one is pretty easy. Just hang back in the house and headshot people through the window while your guys kill off most of the KPA. If you are careful, you can maneuver until you see just a few pixels of their bright white or red headgear, which is enough for a headshot, without putting yourself at risk for return fire. At the end, your dudes will encourage you to enter the house on the other side, but be careful as there will still be a few guys coming out. Also, watch out for the dude just inside the house. You'll want to have a burst weapon ready for him.

The School (Weapon Choices)

I recommend the ACR and an SMG. I found the ACR to be a great headshot weapon, even though it has no ACOG scope. Don't worry about the silenced M-16. There's no stealth coming up. Also, avoid the LMGs. They are a pile of ass in recoil and take a very long time to reload.

Assault on the Main Gate

This part can be dangerous due to the sentry tower so be careful. To begin, let your main guys do most of the shooting while you hide in the house and occasionally headshot KPA soldiers. Your guys will automatically move up when enough KPA are dead. If you can hear the soldiers yelling and shooting while your guys just stand there, it means they have no sight lines on the KPA. You'll have to move up and poke your head out so they charge you and your guys can kill them.

Once all the KPA are dead, you''ll have to make your way up to the house with backyard access. This is not that difficult if you know the sentry tower scan pattern. If you were looking down at it, it basically makes a C shape, with the opening to the left. This means that you want to watch it scan over you from R-->L and then wait for it to return L-->R. This give you the maximum time to run forward while it uselessly scans around to the back. Also, be aware that the concrete barriers are destructible, so don't try hiding behind those if the tower sees you.

When you get to the backyard, there will be some KPA you have to kill. Try to stay back because they like to throw grenades. When you approach the house, watch for the guy in the second story window.

The Gunfight in the Camp

In the slow-motion part, kill the two KPA and run up the stairs. It is very easy to die here, but you will respawn on the stairs if you don't make it. The KPA towards the building will probably stay put for the time being but be prepared to pile some lead into a charger. To start, use your pistol to headshot the guys across the courtyard. Your pistol is remarkably accurate so you can make some easy headshots, even at range. Work your way from right to left, ignoring anyone you can't get a bead on due to stuff in the way. Once this is pretty much clear, you'll have to clear out the enemies towards the building. This is challenging due to the large number of guys and your ass weapon. Just be careful and be sure to hide if you start taking damage. If you are lucky, a KPA soldier or two will charge you and give you a better weapon. After things die down a bit, make your way towards the building but watch out for more people coming out. When they are all dead, head downstairs and kill the LMG gunners.

Before leaving this area, make sure you have good guns! You will need them in the next section. I had a single-fire weapon of some sort with an ACOG scope and an SMG, though I would recommend a burst fire gun with an ACOG if you can find one.

The Stadium

The challenging part of this level is the curvature of the stadium which gives you bad sight lines. This will put you close to the KPA, within grenade range. The sentry towers won't give you much trouble until you are at the buses.

At the very beginning, the KPA will charge across the stadium towards the part where you will do most of the fighting. If you are quick, you can down a half dozen of them before the fighting even starts! If you then wait a second, you'll see another guy running near the school buses and you can kill him, too.

In the main part of the battle, you'll be moving along the outside of the stadium. Keep the buildings between you and the sentry towers and move forward, staying well behind your shooters. I stayed an entire building back for most of this battle. The two guys are invulnerable, but will "go down" for a bit if they take a lot of damage, and you don't want to get caught in a KPA charge with no defensive help. Just let them scare up the KPA and hold back in case any come into range. If things seem slow, you might want to move forward to see if you can scare up some action or take a headshot. You should not have to worry about being flanked by the KPA on the left. They rarely flank. I think I saw one guy towards the very end of the level who was sorta on my left, but that's about it. When you get to the school buses, watch out for the dude in one of them. If you've been letting your buddies lead, they will almost certainly have engaged him, making him less of a surprise.

At this point, you are basically done. Taking out the sentry towers is very easy. There will be a few enemies on the way, but then you are left alone to take them out.

Hope that helps anyone who's frustrated!

I recommend highly to pickup any LMG you find these are most of the time 1 hit body shots on enemies (they are very fragile lol) also never pick semi auto pick any good AR you want as a backup just in case, as the LMG usually has 200 rounds and that should suffice for the whole mission basicly, and a 100 round mag which is enough to clear most encounters without even reloading
