How to unlock the Well advanced achievement in HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED - Definitive Guide
If you want to keep all the cars you upgrade:
The first 3 cars you get will all be Common and you can't trade them in for coins or gears, so there's your first 3 upgrades done. If you have the Ultimate edition cars as well, that's 7 more cars to upgrade that can't be traded in. There's also a few Common cars gifted to you through the campaign. Keeping these now-Rare cars will be helpful later when upgrading 15 Rare cars for the other achievement.
If you want to be efficient:
Stock up on a good amount of Gears (I'd say at least 1000). Before starting this method, make sure you save a bunch of junk Common cars from blind boxes. Now upgrade these Common cars to Rare, but then immediately dismantle them for 100 Gears a piece. You'll get a ton of Gears back doing this, so you'll get this achievement done quickly while also making good progress towards earning the 25,000 Gears achievement.

I don't understand how you get more gears back from dismantling a common car you've upgraded to rare. Upgrading a common car costs 200 gears, then dismantling that now-rare car only gives 100 back, so you lose 100 gears each time doing this method in the long run.
EDIT: Never mind. Misunderstood. The Gears are cumulative and spending them doesn't count against the achievement.

Upgrading vehicles requires gears which is another form of currency used in the game and there are a few ways to earn them. You will automatically earn quite a few as you progress through the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. You can also earn gears by dismantling vehicles you own. The amount of gears you recieve will vary depending upon the rarity of the vehicle. Common vehicles will give you 50 gears, whilst a legendary vehicle will give you 200 gears.
Upgrading a common vehicle costs 200 gears and the vehicle will increase to rare as a result. As you need to do this 10 times, this will set you back 2,000 gears. You should have more than enough gears by the time you finish the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode, so this shouldn't be a problem.
