How to unlock the Kovac's pride and joy! achievement in How To Survive 2 - Definitive Guide
FQX solution is correct. I'm adding an easier way.
In the lower right corner of the map right by the sewer entrance and a quest giver there is a way to climb out of the map and get to an open area where you can build your base.
This place has no ways for Zombies to get into if you put in a few buildings to prevent zombies from spawning in the area as described by FQX.
Basically I have made a base all the way up to 45 (just recently started playing so not 50 yet).
All I have in this camp is a chest, pylon and one other building (though there is room for 1 of every building making a complete and fully save camp) too prevent spawning inside the area.
And leveled it all the way up to 45 (the last 5 when I'm back from work) without any defenses at all. Basically you can farm XP this way as you get like 250k XP each 4 min without doing anything but starting the challenges.
TIP: If you have additional controllers, sign in 3 dummy accounts on these too. Make these dummy accounts members or associates of the camp. Thus they gain XP too, and you can put their XP into leveling the camp. Saving all that XP for your own character.

This is a glitchy achievement. It has a potential to glitch at anytime after the pylon gets damaged.
You need to have the pylon intact at the stage where you are doing the camp upgrade for the first time and not have it damaged. You CANNOT complete it while its damaged and then restart the attack mission from the pylon at a later date.
I just tried doing all 8 in a row at level 51 with a fully upgraded base with my dummy account idling and the achievement never unlocked for me but it did for my dummy.
This also means if you join someone else's game and do all the attack missions in their game you will not get the achievement.
The only way I was able to get this achievement was by deleting the game and every save file with my gamertag on it and then starting from scratch with a new character.
Doing this sucks because you have to grind the game again having grinded it long enough already,

505 Games should stop pampering that Portal Knights game and fix these glitchy achievements. But anyway thanks everyone for the tips. The dummy characters/extra controller tip is really cool I never thought of that, only thing that comes to mind about that is that Enemy Health points and damage increases with every character that joins. For example currently I'm at level 30 and I can kill a regular infected with 1 arrow to the head, But when my level 30 wife joins my camp, regular infected take 2 arrows to the head to kill, if a third person joins, it's 2 arrows and a well placed kick.

At certain points in levelling up your camp, you'll have to do a camp defence sequence at your pylon.
This achievement requires your pylon to survive at full health after every one of these sequences.
Make sure to always collect wood, as you'll need a lot of it to build up your defences.
The 8th and last defence will be unlocked at camp level 50.
the first and fourth camp defences will also unlock an achievement each for the first, and half the camp challenges respectively.
Picking your camp location is very important. Refer to the screenshots below.
Spot A and B are popular picks, however I strongly recommend going with the best one as marked on the images provided.

Additional info:
Buildings create a "Safe zone". This causes zombies to never spawn right next to your buildings, so try to spread out your buildings, or maybe even place a few you don't need, to make sure NO zombies spawn inside the perimeter of your camp.
Zombies slow down when climbing a low wall. Combine low walls and rotating arm traps to slow down the zombies drastically, saving both your rotating arm durability (In a defense sequence, as it will take longer for the zombies to reach traps, therefore fewer spawns over the course of the 5 minute sequence at camp level 50) and also generally making it safer, as the zombies will be exposed to the arm traps for a longer period of time.
