Is it possible to lose rank or did you mix up the order of Day Tripper and Slaughterer? I was rank "Slaughterer+" and then after another complete challenge, I noticed I was "Day Tripper" rank. Any ideas?

Never mind. After doing another mission with an A rank I went from Day Tripper to Survival Hobbyist+ and got my achievement so either it was showing the wrong rank for a bit or Day Tripper is actually after Slaughterer.

To clarify RAVIOLICAPONI's handy list, the ranks seem to be divided into tiers based on your combined score from each challenge. It appears that Survival Hobbyist is at 20,000 global points, meaning you need to have at least 2500 points in each of the 8 challenge levels. With a few A and S ranks, you can even have it done before you beat all of the challenges.
I was going to write walkthroughs for the levels but, honestly, they're all pretty easy and straight forward. The goal in all of them is to simply get from point A to B and kill as many zombies while taking as little damage as you can on the way. You will need to be confident in taking down the, uh, zombie ogres and the zombie deer, and sometimes it's good to remember how to craft a certain weapon, so you will want to have done the campaign on Ironman to get all your basic skills down before you start the challenges. Once you have that, these challenges are really quite easy. Just aim for headshots and keep moving, checking your map for pointers along the way.
The most important parts for scoring seem to be:
1) How much damage you take.
2) How fast you go.
3) How many zombies you kill.
Oh and level up your character as they seem to carry over from campaign, armor and all! I used Kenji for his high precision and it's paid off for me.

I'm in the 21-22k point range and only ranked Day Tripper+.
Having done a bit of bouncing around in "game types" It appears you only level based on the total points in a given category.
I have 2 stages on Iron Man done and 1 level in co-op done which should puts me over 30k total points.
After breaking 20k in solo normal i tried playing unpatched and getting a better score to see if maybe the requirements had changed but unfortunately i still only moved up from Day Tripper to Day Tripper+
Guess i'll have to finish one of the 2 solo missions i have left tomorrow and hopefully get the needed point total.

As you complete challenges, you'll attain titles that you'll receive in a progressive manner. In order to rank up, you have to set personal records on challenges - this means you can't repeat the same challenge ad nauseum until you reach Survival hobbyist. Personal records will count across each variant of the 8 challenges - Normal difficulty, Iron Man difficulty, 1 Player and 2 Player. This means there are 32 variants for you to set your own record on. I achieved Survival hobbyist after completing 11 different variants, with ranks varying from C to S.
Survival hobbyist is the 21st online ranking tag to my knowledge:
