How to unlock the Skin in the Game achievement in How To Train Your Dragon 2 - Definitive Guide

All you need to do is participate in each of the 4 tournaments as the dragon you're trying to unlock the paint for. You don't even have to win the tournament to unlock the racing paint. Once you've participated in all four tournaments, head back to the dragon hangar and there will be an option to toggle the racing paint on and off. You can unlock the paints faster by grabbing a second controller and selecting another dragon to participate with you.

I can confirm that you don't even need to play in order for the paints to unlock. You just need to check every 7-8 minutes to see if you need to press A in order to move on to the next event.
