How to unlock the Crystal Clear achievement in Hunted Demons Forge - Definitive Guide

IDiivil and Auburok at Xbox360Achievements.org have an awesome collectibles guide for pinpointing each crystal needed throughout the chapters, all credit goes to them. Also adding the TA's collectible guide if anyone is still having collecting issues.

Collectibles Guide - X360.org
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31...
and
Collectibles Guide - TA Guide
Hunted: The Demons Forge Walkthrough Page 4 - Chapter 2

The achievement is mainly focused on finding the main crystals you obtain from the containers (credit to Phoenix C64), NOT the ones you form from shards, though you are still encouraged to collect shards as well. There is 70 crystal containers throughout the game, so if you have been collecting these crystals respectfully; at the end of the game you should have about 132 crystals give or take a few just to have an idea where you are at. Please don't think because you have 132 the achievement will pop, as the shards you are collecting are added to the same total, so there will be people who have less or more and with no achievement.

To help keep track of your progress, here is the total of crystals you can find in each Chapter. (Credit to the TA Collectibles Guide and those involved):
Prologue - 3
Chapter 1 - 10
Chapter 2 - 14
Chapter 3 - 14
Chapter 4 - 7
Chapter 5 - 11
Chapter 6 - 11
Total - 70

Be careful of starting a new Adventure+ game as it wipes your collectibles progress. If you do happen to start a Adventure+ keep in mind you'll start out with 30 extra crystals so your ending total will be more than the guesstimated 132, simply look for the 70 containers for your crystal count.

Also if you play the game in local split screen, it seems the main person will only receive the credit, i.e. you have a buddy join you on second controller, they will not receive the credit for collected crystals.

You can check your progress while in game by pressing the BACK button and RB once for your Abilities, a list total should appear. After finishing a chapter or even the game you can replay sections to find the ones you didn't get. If you stick to the guides and find the crystal containers in their respective locations you should be on the right track.

If you feel you still aren't getting the achievement like you should, then please check out LosersVoteParty solution as another alternative for the solution. Any helpful information even from another source is always welcomed.

This solution is wrong. You say "There is a total of 132 crystals to be found throughout the game inside the cylinder caged containers. " yet in the game there is only 72 caged crystals. according to the official guide

Reading through their guide again, I need to fix that, thanks. Changing it to 132 total, through whole crystals and crystal fragments which complete said whole crystals. To be honest though, the Prima Strat Guide for Demon's Forge is inaccurate as well with totals and locations as IDiivil has pointed out.

If the fragments are included in the achievement it would be nice to have a location for the pots that hold fragments

@Cellar Attic - There have been some people that have collected, or what they thought to have collected all of the caged full crystals and the achievement never popped for them. Whether they actually did find all is another story, though others been claiming that they needed dropped shards as well to complete full crystals.

All the info that I could find is contained within the thread link posted above, the authors themselves state you need shard pieces for the full 132. Again, not sure if it is people actually not knowing they have missed a full crystal or have not collect some shard pieces, I wish I knew more about this myself.

Just beat the game with crystal guide and found 131 crystals.
I only need 2 more pieces to make 132.
What shall i do now?
Can i play a chapter and hope that enemies drop it?.

I hope this information helps anyone missing one crystal - I completed 2 playthroughs and both times was one crystal short. I found a numerical guide that contains the number of crystals per chapter (copied below) and realised at the end of chapter 1 this was where my problem was. After playing through ch.1 twice, I finally found the problem - in 1.4 Town Centre, where you use the balista to destroy the tower, DO NOT DESTROY THE TOWER STRAIGHT AWAY!!! Instead, camp on the balista and keep destroying Wargar until they stop dropping crystal shards, if in doubt spend another few minutes on the balista. Then collect the shards, jump back on the balista and destroy the tower. I think on my previous playthroughs I was just bringing the tower down immediately, and missing those shards... I doubt it matters, but on this playthrough I also started on 1.1 and not the prologue.

TOTAL CRYSTAL COUNT AT END OF EACH CHAPTER :
Prologue 3
Chap 1 24
Chap 2 53
Chap 3 80
Chap 4 95
Chap 5 116
Chap 6 132

I've played through twice now and got 132 full crystals and 4 shards both times. Neither of these have netted the achievement.
On the second playthrough I made sure I collected everything in the guide. I also matched the crystal count in badboybungles post above.
Has anyone found a place to farm shards other than the ballista in the town centre as I've tried there and got nothing

as far as i know the shards that drop randomly do NOT count towards the achievement. you could end the game with 70 (the ones that have fixed spots and are a full crystal) and still get this achievement.

the TA game walkthrough has an excellent collectible guide.
just make sure you do the needed secret puzzles to get the 3 brother orb essences, as you need them to open the last puzzle with 2 crystals in it.

correction: there are 3 crystals in the last puzzle.

also take into account that the chievo sais "collect all possible CRYSTALS", not "all possible SHARDS", ergo only the 70 crystals are needed and nothing more.

oh and i can also confirm that the extra crystals you get when you start an adventure+, do NOT count either towards the achievement.

mate i am gonna have to downvote, because this solution has incorrect data.
you say 132 crystals, 72 cylinders.
just follow the TA guide: Hunted: The Demons Forge Walkthrough
it's 70 cylinders, all you need. not more not less. the other crystals (which are put together by shards you randomly get) do NOT count and the extra ones from a +adventure do NOT count either.

once you correct your solution let me know and i'll change my vote.

@Phoenix C64 - I'm not sure of the correct count in the first place.. its been months since I've played this game and I don't remember how I came up with 72 in the first place.. I am getting older, or maybe it was from the Prima Guide which is inaccurate in the first place.

I'm still seeing mixed numbers around the net though, I see a lot of people counting 71 containers as well. As well as the total crystal count being 132 or over, even people at 131 it is unlocking. Also those with 132 total aren't getting it to unlock sometimes - it just seems like it isn't acting like a proper unlock and should be noted with a "buggy" icon.

I'm sorry this was a confusing achievement to begin with and I just wanted to point out a guide that helped me as it was the only one around at that time that was even close to being helpful. Don't really mind how you vote me as long as either of the guides are of use to user. If the TA guide is more helpful, then by all means use it.. I even added it to the solution. I'll fix the solution so it isn't definitive on an exact number, especially 72.

heya mate.
well, i can assure you it's 70 as i have done it this very week just following the TA walkthrough to the letter, and there are exactly 70 crystal cylinders listed. the chievo popped the very moment i picked up the last crystal on the walkthrough.
reports "on the net" are inaccurate coz ppl. is dumb... they see "130-135" on their status screen and think that is what counts (and it's not), when they probably missed a cylinder somewhere.
the achievement clearly sais to collect "crystals" (cylinders), not "shards" (random drops)

i'm just trying to give u a hand here to improve your solution, as right now it's quite confusing and inaccurate. i would not downvote without saying why or giving a chance to make me change my mind about the vote.

@Phoenix C64 - Well I thank you for your reasoning and being honest.

Like I have said it has been almost a year since I've last played the game when it was released, so it really isn't fresh in my head, I apologize. I've fixed up the solution best I could and at the time the game came out it was a confusing achievement. I understand what you mean and where people are becoming confused, mostly because of the shards forming full crystals and not realizing they might have missed a container somewhere, I get it. However, I just wanted to provide a link to a guide off site that may help other players without taking credit from those who provided the guide in the first place, I am refraining on using any of their information on this solution, just bare bones. So I'll add your tidbit of info and I'm keeping it as it is in hopes people will just use either collectible guides and not have them rely on the total crystal count as it may be misleading. Me and a friend both used the one from xbox360achievements.org at the time and it helped us, guess it'll come down to preference which guide people want to choose.

Either way, thanks for the input and criticism.

I've updated the solution a bit, mostly to keep focus off the 132 total and more so on the 70 crystal containers needed. 132 is more of a guesstimate at end game really as anyone could have more or over that amount and do or do not get the achievement. I've provided crystal container totals in each chapter thanks to the TA guide so people can track progress.

I am sorry this seems like a tricky achievement and in a way it can be as it is not very specific, but highly recommend following the guides to a T. Sometimes people forget to check prologue and I even went through the whole game thinking I left no stone unturned till I played the first chapter and there was my last crystal in the first spot you find a crystal.

Good luck!

Personally I'm stuck on 126. I played through the game twice (not a new game+, simply started from the beginning and played through) And made sure I collected all 70 on the list. Still stuck at 126, and haven't had anymore dropped shards. I'm pretty sure the counting system within the game is buggy. I already had all 32 prisoners, but after releasing a few on my second run through, it kept say i had 31 only. Now I'll have to play through all that again for one achievement :D

Just an extra note here, I may have discovered the crux of my issue with this achievement. I began the first two chapters of this game playing online co-op with a friend who collected several of the crystals first. When I go back to those crystals, the shining light present above unopened cases is there, but the crystal inside is gone. Perhaps the game has issues switching from co-op to solo. I will play through on my adventure+ and collect all crystals solo and post the results. Wish me luck!

Update:

This achievement popped for me yesterday when I picked up the last caged crystal in the game on my adventure +. I already had 132 (plus the bonus 30) before picking up the final two caged crystals, and I ended up with 134 obtained crystals. Therefore, for myself at least, the achievement only refers to the 70 caged crystals, not the various shards.

@Steakslave - I'll be sure to put a warning in the solution about that.

@Achilles - I don't know.. both guides have 10 listed, all crystals add up to 70 total. Been awhile since I've played sorry, it may be possible that crystals may not be saved if you had to redo a checkpoint and needed to pick up the crystal again and needed to reach a checkpoint for it to be saved. I just don't know for sure, but both guides have to total listed as 10.

@Achilles - I remember now.. it's because they were following the stratrgy guide at the time which had a few inconsistencies. Re-reading the guide from x360a on chapter 1 and I quote, "Purple rune here. The guide says a crystal is here, but we didn't find one." I went through the chapter contents and did count 11 but that one spot is listed as an error, making it 10.

It's just an error from the strat guide that has been reproduced through the internet. Hope that clears things up.

The solution is accurate but the numbers aren't. Take a look, you've got 2 crystals labeled #3, that's why your not coming up with 11 crystals.

By Achilles8249 on 11 Jul 2013 02:19
/sigh
1) the TA guide is WRONG as in listing #3 twice and a total of 11 in ch1.
2) read the x360a guide and you'll see a text saying "Purple rune here. The guide says a crystal is here, but we didn't find one." Taking this into account there are 10 crystals in ch1. 10 is what this solution sais. 10 is what i confirmed.

Suit yourself. You talk about a "theory" you have. I have facts. I did this achievement 3 times myself, each on first try just following the walkthrough. And everyone that I told to follow the walkthrough got the achievement on first try too.
Please stop trying to confuse people. 132 shards, 165 shards or 9999 shards: IRRELEVANT. 70 fixed crystal is what counts for this achievement. End of story. If you got all 70 and it didn't unlock, then you had bad luck and encountered a glitch. Or more probable: you didn't follow the walkthrough properly and missed a crystal somewhere. Or you died after picking one up and didn't pick it up again.
If you think you're smarter than the 1500+ people on this site that actually GOT the achievement, go ahead, contact TA staff and tell them this achievement is wrongly tagged as buggy.

If you read my comment you would see that I have gotten the achievement. I played once and got all 70 full crystals, then played a second time to ensure that I made no mistakes. Then I played a 3rd time and got the achievement. In doing so I got no additional crystals. Your logic is flawed and you are an arrogant fool who is leading people to not receive the achievement. To tell people not to worry about fragments only benefits your own pride.

I'm not really making any more adjustments to the solution, I'm sorry, nothing to do with being stubborn or who is right or wrong. It is a total of 70 full crystals found in containers that are counted, not shards that form crystals. There can be more or less crystals, it would be different for everyone, and people would get the achievement either way. I did use to think shards were a factor, but I was mistaken. But that's why I also encourage people to read the comments as well to see either the history of the solution or what may have worked for others.

For me personally, I found the crystal in it's container (cage) that I had missed and the achievement popped. Prior to this I did find shards and they even added up to full crystal with some left over that didn't count. So again, it wasn't after I found the full crystal I passed up I received the achievement.

Now, the game is pretty buggy.. at least at the time I played the game, not sure about now. Some times when you find a crystal or some other collectible, if you don't reach a checkpoint and fail, thus resulting in a start over to previous checkpoint, it might not count the collectible you had just found. That is why I say it is buggy. So it might be possible that may have happened in a previous play through yet on the third try - never had to resort to a previous checkpoint after obtaining a collectible or mainly a crystal.

Just a tip: once you find a Crystal, or any other collectible, make sure you hit a checkpoint (red logo on the lower right side of the screen). If you quit the game before hitting the checkpoint, all collectibles gotten before that will not count.

@Dropkick - I had left over fragments as well that didn't complete a crystal. In the process of looking for the last full crystal (in the containers) I couldn't find anymore fragments from enemies or in objects, began thinking I actually needed those smaller fragments from somewhere to get the achievement.

Looks like you don't though, found last full crystal at the very beginning of the game out of all places and was able to get achievement.

Finished the game with 132 and 3 fragments, no achievement. Went back through the entire game checking every single one of these locations. No achievement. Did find a single fragment in a blue container, though (bringing me to 132 and 4 fragments), which makes me wonder if those are required and there's one of those I missed somewhere.

Or if this is just a terrible glitched achievement.

I finished the game as well with the full 132, the last being the cylinder in the game, no achievement. Searched the every container during my second playthough and didn't miss any crystals and still no achievment. It looks like other people are having the same problems so it probably is just a buggy achievemnt. Good guide though as is the walkthough.

Regarding SPLIT-SCREEN specifically, all achievements in the game can be done with a dedicated partner except this one. There's a warning before starting a local co-op game about character progress saving only to the main player. This only refers to weapon & spell loadouts which includes the crystals collected.

@Achilles - Then I'm not sure what's up, I just remember the official strat guide having errors with collectibles and internet guides would post fom that. It's a taxing achievement that really isn't all that clear, but if you are not getting it to unlock it is probable you are missing a crystal some where. From what I can remember its not the total end number that really counts its the exact 70 crystals you find in containers that only count.

Mr. Phoenix is probably the best go to person on this subject, they helped me straighten out the solution from what it previously was. I only really intended for this solution to direct people towards other helpful guides as I didn't want to take credit away from them because at the time it was very unclear on exactly how this achievement worked.

As a last resort.. I would just make a new game profile, start all over again like you were playing the game for the first time and probably follow the guide TA has provided (up in the links) since it seems like it is the most accurate. I would also be sure about after getting crystals that you do reach a checkpoint, just in case you are in a situation where you collected one but were defeated by an enemy and reloaded a checkpoint prior to obtaining the crystal. Double check again that it was collected and get to a save/checkpoint.

Sorry it couldn't be easier or more clear, best I have =\ good luck with it.

this solution is accurate. it has been long ago since i did this, but from my research and comments on this solution back then i can assure you the account of crystals is accurate. remember: crystals formed from shards do NOT count towards the achievement, only those obtained fully through containers do count.

and take into account that this achievement is flagged as buggy, so even tho you follow walkthroughts, solution guides or any other accurate information, it might be possible you do not unlock the achievement. i encourage you to ask the TA staff as on why this solution is marked as buggy.
also remember that game+ and playing in coop has been reported as being problematic towards this achievement.

I think it is wrong for you guys to state that fragments have no influence on getting this achievement. You don't know this. The reality is that people aren't getting it despite following the guides properly. Your only response is to call it buggy.

My theory is that you must have a minimum of 131 crystals (161 for New Game+) prior to picking up your last full crystal (wherever that may be).

Only one person claimed to have done this and not gotten the achievement and it is possible he is mistaken and did what I did in my 1st play through.

My experience:

Playthrough 1 - 132 crystals (the last crystal was created from fragments).
Playthrough 2 - Replayed the entire game with Caddoc to ensure I did not miss anything. All crystals had already been found in the 1st playthrough.
Playthrough 3 - 165 crystals (specifically sought out shards, stopped when I picked up the final crystal and the achievement was reached)

I'd appreciate it if you adjusted your guide and add my theory. If not, please, at least encourage people to seek out shards and acknowledge that you don't know whether it affects the achievement or not.

Thanks

@Gizmo2k - You have found all 72 caged full crystals then? The second page of the guide states that if you have found all the crystals, there may be a problem in picking up shards from enemies or even those runed canisters scattered about. Whether it'll have the achievement pop though is another thing. I can understand your frustration though as I had problems with this achievement, it should have just been the 72 crystals rather than the ones picked up through shards by the enemies.

I found my last crystal ironically at the very beginning of the game on Chapter 1.1 - all I had to do was turn right after cutscene and shoot the sigen above the door and it was right there. If you have followed the guide to the letter, all I can say is that you might want to look around for some shards in items. I know it sucks, like finding a needle in a haystack.

Reader beware. Although the walkthrough correctly lists all full crystals, there is info in RaajTM's guide that is incorrect and may lead you to not unlocking the achievement. Crystal fragments are essential to get this achievement. Don't fall into that trap.

Full Crystals

There are two different types of crystals. One is full crystals that are located in specific locations throughout the game. There are 70. Here is a link to the TA Walkthrough:

Hunted: The Demons Forge Walkthrough Page 4 - Chapter 2

Crystal Fragments

The other way to get a crystal is to pick up crystal fragments. Crystal = 5 fragments. There is no possible location guide for these fragments because they are somewhat random. Crystal fragments are:

1. Found in destructible vases that are teal and black.
2. Dropped by fallen enemies.

The only solution is to seek out these crystals whenever possible. My strategy was to follow my own pattern of destruction. I would kill an enemy and immediately run to see what was dropped while killing the next enemy. This way any dropped fragments are less likely to disappear. Earlier I said they are somewhat random. This is because you can't farm one area of enemies past a certain point. It is likely that you can only collect a limited number of crystal fragments per sub-chapter.

Total Crystal Requirement

There is an in-game counter for the crystals. Press select and then RB to see the total. You will need 132 crystals (162 if playing New Game+ because it gives you 30 to start with).

70 Full Crystals
+ 62 Crystals Created from Fragments
132 Total Crystals

Buggy Achievement

If only it were that simple. This achievement is listed as buggy for a reason. Many people have reported (myself included) that they are sure that they collected each full crystal and even got 132 crystals and the achievement did not pop.

My Theory:

You must have a minimum of 131 crystals (161 for New Game+) prior to picking up your last full crystal (wherever that may be).

This means that you must create at least 62 crystals from fragments before you pick up the 70th full crystal. That 70th full crystal can be it last in the game or any that you may have missed along the way.

In my first playthrough I collected my 132nd crystal from fragment creation after collecting my 70th full crystal. No achievement angry I wanted to make sure I hadn't made an error by missing a full crystal so I replayed the full game a second time. In doing so I not only checked each location, but I also verified that there was a ghost of the crystal in each canister (It is possible to open the canister and not pick up the crystal). I made no error. So I played the game in New Game+ (which resets your progress) and focused on fragment collection as well as full crystal collection. Achievement unlocked headspin There were no additional crystals that I had not picked up the first time.

Thanks for reading. I hope this guide is able to help others avoid the pitfalls I fell into. If you still have trouble unlocking this please comment and I will do my best to assist you or update the solution if necessary.

I think if you can't pick them up after they have dropped it means that you have collected all you can for that area. And I really don't know about you last question. Perhaps you can count the guide you are using to see how many full crystals you have picked up. Then subtract it from your total crystals. That way you can know how many crystals you have created from fragments.

If I run over crystal fragments and I don't pick them up, does that mean I have them all already? Stupid question yes but I just want to make sure it's not a glitch or something. When I collect all 62, will they still drop or will they stop dropping? Thanks :)

I collected 163 and a few fragments on New Game+ and it didn't pop. I did notice a few were dropped by far off enemies that I couldn't reach, so I hope that didn't void it. Looks like I'll be stuck at 49/50 for this game

This is a quick (possible) solution to anybody who's looking down the barrel at a new playthrough after hitting a glitch with this achievement.

I had no issues unlocking this achievement on the standard version of the game (PAL/NTSC), but had the glitch occur while playing through the Japanese NTSC-J copy.

After going through each chapter and checking every crystal again, I confirmed I had collected all full crystals from the containers - which meant that I was going to have to retry this achievement on a new playthrough.

So from the experience of unlocking the achievement without hassle the first time, then hitting the glitch on my second time round - I thought I'd let people know how I eventually got it to unlock for me.

On my first (PAL) playthrough, I unfortunately missed these two crystals in Chapter 4:

Crystal (2-3/7): Now go through the hole that the Minotaur made and take a left. Talk to the fireplace, collect the 4 bones and light the green fire with Elara's arrow. Go up the stairs, alight the fireplace from the other side (through the broken floor) and enter the now open area for the crystals.

I continued to play through the rest of the game (collecting all shards from enemies as well), and after beating the last boss, I loaded up Chapter 4, grabbed the two I missed and unlocked the achievement.

When playing through the Japanese version, I didn't miss a single crystal, grabbed all shards from enemies, and when I got to the last 2 full crystals in the game - the achievement didn't unlock.

After double-checking all crystal containers by replaying chapters, I resigned myself to another playthrough just for this.

I started a New Game+, and played through the game again.
HOWEVER, this time - I missed those two crystals on Chapter 4 AGAIN. My idea was to replicate how I got the achievement to unlock the first time. After beating the game (getting the rest of the crystals and collecting all loose shards), I loaded up Chapter 4, got the crystals and unlocked the achievement.

So - my point is... if you have to replay the game because of the glitch, it might be in your best interest to miss one or two, then collect them after beating the game. I know it worked for me twice.

For what it's worth, I went through the J version (as you know) and didn't miss any crystals, it popped at the last one. Knowing this game though, I could have just been super lucky...
