There are a total of 53 spirits to find and talk with. When you find a person or skeleton on the ground silhouetted by a glow, these are what you are looking for. After finishing a chapter or even the game you can replay sections to find the ones you didn't get.
Be careful of starting a new Adventure+ game as it wipes your collectibles progress.

The abilities screen does not list Deathstones. Everything else, yeah, but not Deathstones. Unless I'm missing something. All mine shows is...
