You need two controllers to do this. Just plug in a second controller and select split screen mode. You can join with a guest account for the second controller. The easiest and fastest map is the tutorial. Just leave the second character idle in his box and complete the tutorial solo.
EDIT1: tisVeeJay pointed out that it is faster to do this on deathmatch with a kill limit of 1 and bots set to the hardest.

I've found that a deathmatch with the kill limit set to 1 is definitely faster. Set the bot difficulty to the highest available and let the bots do their thing.

You don’t actually need a second controller for this. You can assign a guest to ‘Player 2’ slot using the same controller.
