How to unlock the Been There Done That achievement in Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms - Definitive Guide

Hey everyone, just a quick video showing the best free-play to grind for the 250 freeplays, 1,000 crow kills, and a great way to farm gems in this game. It only takes about 15-20 minutes per run. Use the Mad Wizard free-play and just set your familiar to player attack, then only level you player attack. Reset once you can't one shot everything, and repeat! Hope this helps!

Modron automation should make this one quite a bit faster/easier. I had mine set up for a couple hours yesterday on my "B team" champions and one of my familiars (Deekin but nobody else for speed; I was just trying out the automation first or I'd have gone guns blazing) and it completed 12 runs for me.

You have to unlock Modron stuff by finishing "Split the party" which can be tricky and time consuming, but it's VERY worth it, even if it takes a few days to get.

Then you set up your Modron "pipes" so they go through the "automation" node, set automation up to reset at level 50, go back out, set up your familiars to level up your player click damage, a couple speed heroes, and maybe one on player attack. I actually did this with just one familiar on leveling player attack, and a rubber band to attack on my controller.

Then you save your formation (which saves where your heroes will be placed as you recruit them, and more importantly where your familiars are placed), go back into modron automation and enable the formation loading using the new one you saved.

Now it will start a fresh run after level 50. If your favor is high enough, click damage alone should get you well past 50, and speed heroes get you there faster. Just plug your controller in with a microUSB (I use a Kindle cable just fine), put a rubber band around your controller to hold down "B" and leave it. You'll also get a good amount of gems, and tiny amounts of favor. I'm extremely close to unlocking Idle Annihilation now thanks to this, too.

Huge tip: Set cinematic speed to instant in the Settings. This skips ALL dialogue and will make your life slightly less hellish grinding this. Also, use Deekin and level him up a bit (I think to 90) at the start to speed up enemy spawning speeds. With just one familiar, my runs are taking around 14 minutes now comfortably.

Yea I didn't have Deekin at the time of this, but have since got him on a Time Warp rotation, and he does make life so much faster. Didn't know about the dialogue option, thanks for that info!

I'm a bit confused as to what a Free Play Run is. Is it basically the same as a Clicker Heroes Ascension? Why do so few people have this achievement? Is it simply because it takes a huge amount of time which you can't just idle?

The Free run is a variant of a map where you just go as long as possible. You need to get to level 50 in order for the free play run to count. This takes about 20 or so minutes, and can take less based on gear and party setup. You run these alot, but when an event is going on you try to maximize favor so you can push further. This game doesn't Idle when your offline like Clicker, you get the money from whatever stage you end on but you do not continue. So you need to be "actively" playing for this one.

Supposedly, the update gave Minsc an ability that has a chance to spawn an extra monster in each set. If you have lots of favor to afford him and his level ups early on, it may be worth it. Also, make sure to buy other heroes even if you autoclick kill everything. Some rounds force you to damage things with segmented health, and clicks so not affect those. May want to pick heroes like the bird mage who have multiple strikes, or quicker attacks, because quantity over DMG work better for blockades.

This is how you update the achievement tracker. All you have to do is close the game, reopen, and as soon as you start a new free play adventure, it will update. Hope this helps someone that is frustrated with the tracker not tracking.

+1 for the comment above from Killipo

I unlocked the modron core a few days ago and set it to automate with just a familiar on the player attack and one on the upgrade player attack. This leaves me with all my champs and my other familiar available for semi-afk playing. My modron party (just 2 familiars) is generating me plenty of gems, patron currency and even a dozen chests per day :)

You can also go into the settings and enable Skip Cinematics in Freeplay. By doing this you are turning off the dialog at the start of each wave. This is especially helpful if you are using Modron because the time it takes the dialog to go away some times is longer than the actual wave.

My strategy use all your Familiars, use Jarlaxle so you can raise their power level to 50 as well raise the power level to multiple characters and then turn your controller off till wave 50. It takes hours beyond hours to do this but while that's happening, watch YouTube videos or listen to music/podcasts, do whatever on your Social Media. It took me about 72 hours. because I didn't pay attention to this achievement till I completed all the others so I had completed over 150 before so the 100 more took about 72 hours.

Didn't knew you could skip the cinematics. And use Deekin.
Thanks!

Also: to speed it up even more, use a potion of speed. smile

Building on the technique and video that Gunflame shared in their guide, the grind for free plays has been made even easier by taking advantage of the new Modron Automation, added to the Xbox version in July 2020.

Once you have unlocked at least two champions per bench slot through events, evergreen champions, and time gates, you can start the "Split the Party" quest. After completing that one-time quest, it unlocks the Modron core options for you to enable on your parties. You need to configure the Modron pipe mini-game such that it flows through the automation tube (it will make more sense once you unlock it) and then you can set the core to autoplay the free plays for you. You must have accrued enough favor within whatever campaign you're running free play on and have a minimum of two familiars unlocked as it will use one to do click damage and the other familiar to level up your click damage as you collect gold. Then you simply set it to restart once it beats level 50 (the minimum level for completing a Free Play) and rinse and repeat. Without even having to touch my console at all, it's completing one free play roughly every hour. It runs a bit slower in offline mode as it doesn't collect gold as quickly, so you can leave your Xbox on and just let it idle complete (it is an idle game after all). This way, you don't need to pop on to your Xbox to keep it cycling to the next free play run as it does it for you.

EDIT: While the Modron Automation works even if the game is offline, it appears that for Xbox to track it correctly, the game must be online with your system on. You'll still complete this faster than without Automation as this can keep launching new Free Play runs throughout the night as long as your system stays on. Also, the game doesn't care if your controller is plugged in or on once it is running; it will still make progress without logging you out.

Note: You will need to launch the game and open the Modron Core interface at least once a week to keep the automation running. They don't want players running it run forever offline. However, you likely will get your 250 Free Play runs completed within 2 weeks, if not much sooner.

This is a good idea actually and a little more help on understanding the Modron setup can be seen in this video from the devs for like the first 20 minutes of the stream.

Sadly I don't think this method is possible anymore, or my game is glitched, whenever my game resets it also resets the familiars making it so I can't reach lv 50.

Thanks for the text guide! Working on this now and have earned the achievements for 50 and 100 Free Play Runs already using this method. Couple of notes:

It is working offline for me, the tracker is updating after I load the game as it's saying "Handling Multiple Resets". This is how both previous achievements unlocked for me as well. I am not using Quick Resume though, force closing the game every time.

I've not had issues with my familiars resetting. Just make sure to save your formation after getting your familiars set up.

Even if the Modron automation doesn't work the fact that now you can have multiple parties running at the time makes this incredibly faster. If you manage to complete split the party 2, you have 3 parties to grind this way faster. I was able to do 12runs/hour.
Anyway, just with a secondary party makes this worth it.

no... you need 2 slots in each of the characters bays, to be even able to take part in the "split the party"? sooo ?? what now? grind them? daily?

This trophy is substantially easier now thanks to the Modron Automation option. You'll probably want at least 3 familiars unlocked to make it easier, 4 or more ideally, because your party size will be restricted to however many familiars you have that can level up your champions. Pick any free play level (whatever campaign you have the highest blessing gold multiplier with), then set 1 familiar to attack (this is important for area 1 to get the ball rolling), and 2 or more to level up the champions you choose. I picked Briv, Shandie and Deekin because they all have speed up abilities. Save the formation, then enable modron automation reset after completing area 50. Be sure to also select the formation you saved on the modron automation screen. Now you can just sit and wait. It'll move faster if the game is open, but you will still get resets with the game closed.

This is easy, but time-consuming. Simply start any Free Play run, finish area 50, and then Complete Adventure. Do this 250 times. It can be the same adventure every time.
If this is one of your last Trophies, your team should be powerful enough to make it to Area 50 in less than a half hour.

This achievement can be fully afk'd with the game closed using a simple trick, this method however does require you to have progressed far enough and have enough champions to unlock the modern core for full automation. You will also need 2 familiars.

Once you have completed split the party sub quest for the micron core and unlocked it you want go to your Modron core setup screen and set up the flow to the tile that allows automation ( will make more sense when you get to the setup ).

You want to set your middle tab on the automation setup to reset at 50 and make sure its enabled ( hit RB ). Party formation doesn't matter but you need a familiar on player attack level up and the other familiar on attack. You can setup a formation by loading a level and after assigning familiars hold LT and click in your left stick to save formation.

When this is done load a freeplay and then force shut the game down ( not quick resume ). Leave it running for a maximum of 7 days ( when the Modron stops working) and load the game back up, let it finish the freeplay it is currently doing and complete the adventure, force close the game again and reload, ( not quick resume ). Start another freelance with Modron core still active and force close the game a third time. Check you achievement % after and it will have increased.

THIS IS A POSSIBLE BUG EXPLOIT, NOT A SOLUTION.

Something happened to me while playing, I went to lv 50 in free play and pressed "complete adventure"

It came up with an error message saying "failed to restart" or something similar.

After a while I would try again and get the same error message. I did this a few times and after getting the error message about 5 times I quit at the dashboard and restarted.

This time it worked and I completed it as normal. Once I checked my Achievement progress in the guide, ALL THE FAILED ATTEMPTS COUNTED AS A COMPLETE RUN! (At 15 mins a run, this possibly saves HOURS!)

So if you ever get this message I would suggest checking if it also works the same for you. Don't close the game, just keep pressing "complete adventure"

I don't know why I got the message so I can't help you get the error, but if you see it come up one day, keep this in mind!

For this trophy you need to finish 250 free-play adventures. You can play free-play levels over and over as many times as you like. There is one catch, however. You must finish at least level 50 in order for it to count towards the trophy. Each run-through takes about 30 mins or so, though you can use potions to speed things up. That said, the potions are hard to come by unless you want to spend real money on them. The good news is that there was an update not too long ago that now allows you to progress through the levels while offline. It used to be that when playing offline, the game would only allow you to keep the gold you earned. Since the update, however, it now also saves your progress, thus allowing you to move through the levels offline as well. So, you can reset the level every 30 mins or so. For me, I would reset in the morning when I woke up, and if I went home for lunch I would do so again. Then again when I got home from work as many times as I could during the evening and usually right before bed. I was averaging about 5 a day. So if you do the math, you can see this trophy will take some time. Since the game continues to run even while you are not playing it, you can play another game at the same time.

I have nothing more to add than my previous speakers, except to create characters in events. Not only will this increase your strength for the team. In total, for making one character to 100%, it gives +10% strength to the entire team. At the same time, it is worth doing free runs for the hero, trying to get equipment. When the event ends, it is worth using the method I used when getting platinum from Rayman Legends. Three to five passes during the day and into the next day. However, it is worth keeping a note of how many passages you have completed, because at the end, when you have over 200 passages, you may be fed up with it and you may wonder if something is just going to glitch. Good luck.

I'm writing a guide for this trash achievement since the current guides are a combination of wrong, bad advice, and lacking details leading people to think the game has bugs

IWARNING: IF USING A SERIES X/S SYSTEM, BE AWARE OF THE QUICK RESUME FEATURE. This feature is meant to seamlessly resume the last game being played as if turning the system off and on has no effect. Quick resume has a habit of interfering with tracking/unlocking achievements. AFAIK, it is always active and cannot be deactivated. Pressing cn_guide and quitting whatever game you're playing before turning your system off will disable quick resume. Keep this in mind when turning your X/S system off WHILE playing Idle Champions and you plan on playing it again the moment you turn your X/S back on. Its good to get into the habit of pressing cn_guide and quitting the game before turning the system off.

TIP: here's a site that keeps track of daily locked chest codes https://incendar.com/idlechampions_codes.php You can get 2-6 electrum chests a day. This will help out a lot if just starting the Idle Champions.

TIP2: You want to keep this achievement for last. The more favor you've earned and perks bought with favor will guarantee you can automate 50 sword coast areas with no problem.

This achievement can be automated. As in completely AFK with the system turned off. Here is a step-by-step.

---------------

GOAL 1: ITEMS NEEDED FOR MODRON AUTOMATION

1 modron core - I don't remember where or when, but you should be given one within the first few 'A Grand Tour of the Sword Coast' adventures. You need this first.

place the modron core - On the screen where your team is forever marching right, above the character portraits at the bottom are a series of blue boxes with symbols in them. Go to the one that says 'parties' and press cn_A. Highlight the box that comes up titled 'Adventure Party 1'. Pressing cn_down should highlight the smaller inset box on the left. This is where the modron core goes. You want to do this as SOON AS YOU GET THE MODRON CORE The core will begin earning XP the moment you do this and will start giving you modron chests every time it levels. It only gains 1 xp for every screen cleared, so it doesn't level fast.

Automation component must be active - once placed, highlight the box with the modron in it and press cn_A. A grid should come up that looks a lot like Lucas Arts' Pipe Dream (that reference might be too dated) the hacking minigame from Bioshock. Dead center of the grid is basically the power source. The pipe 3 tiles to the right is labeled 'automation component'. You need to connect these two with pipes in order to automate You will gain pipes from modron chests.

----------------

GOAL 2: EARN PARTY/FAMILIARS

Characters: NO additonal characters are required. You DO NOT need to complete the 'Split the Party' quest. YOU ONLY NEED 1 CHARACTER TO AUTOMATE FREE QUEST RUNS.

Familiars: You can't do this without familiars and you'll get at least 1 for free. You will be able to purchase more from the shop with gems (do not spend real $) as you play (if you can call it that) this game to earn all the other achievements.
BARE minimum: 3
recommended: 6
most efficient (if watching the game play itself): 7

the breakdown goes like this:
1 to level a character
1 to level up player attack
1/4/5 to do click damage. (4 = auto collect gold, 5 = auto collects gold + gems)

considering this will likely be your last achievement, there's a pretty good chance you'll have close to 6 from having to play the game (if you can call it that) for the other achievements.

-----------------

HOW TO SET UP AUTOMATION:

Idle Champions on console made this as confusing and unintuitive as possible. Here's a step by step:

step 1:
- begin an easy ''a grand tour of the sword coast' quest that displays 'free quest' (free quests are quests that you've already completed and can play again)

step 2:
-On the battle screen (where the characters marching right) - blue boxes above the character portraits: press cn_A on 'familiars'
-set 1 familiar to 'player attack'
-set 1 familiar to 'level bruenor' (or anyone else if you prefer)
-set remaining famliars to 'player attack'

step 3:
-On the battle screen -while holding cn_LT press in cn_LSc
-press cn_X to save your formation

step 4:
-on battle screen - blue boxes, press cn_A on parties.
-inside the 'adventure party 1' box, you want to mess around with the d-pad until you get the smaller inset box on the right highlighted and press cn_A. Its labeled 'current modron automation setup'.
- highlight box labeled 'set formation'. Press cn_RB to activate it. Press cn_Y and select 'a grand tour of the sword coast'. Press cn_A, select the saved party you want to use and press cn_A again.
- highlight the box labeled 'set area goal'. Press cn_RB to activate it. Press cn_A on 50 (why 50? its the minimum # of areas needed for a free run to count)
(opitional - would recommend if watching the game play itself. don't know if it counts off-line)
- highlight 'set buffs' box and press cn_RB. cn_A brings up your potions. Add your speed potions (all of them). Press cn_Y and you need to set each potion to activate on area 1. You do that by pressing cn_A and entering 1.

I'm not sure its possible to set what quest the automation plays. I'm certain its limited to whatever quest is currently being played.
---------------------

once you've done all these steps, Idle Champions should now start automating runs.

again, achievement progress IS NOT BUGGED. You WILL gain progress with your system off and you'll see it in the achievement tracker when restarting the game. If progress wasn't added, quick resume probably screwed you over.

modron automation will disable after 7 days if you don't sign into the game, so keep that in mind.

I recommend leaving this trophy for the very end. While working on all the other trophies, you will go around 150-200 games in free play mode. So you will end up with no more than 100 games left to close. The fastest way to finish it off will be in the very first campaign in the very first available adventure, the monsters there are quite weak and up to level 50 you can simply click by holding down the control buttons . By placing the cursor on the player's attack, then you will automatically attack enemies and increase the attack level. I also recommend setting the “Cinematic Speed” parameter to “Instant” in the game settings. This way you will remove all the “splash screens” that you would otherwise have to skip by pressing .

With 1T blessings this way you can get to level 100+ in any free game. Each adventure will take you around 20-40 minutes, depending on the heroes and your level of blessing. Pressing the button can be replaced with familiars, although it is better to also use them to attack enemies. In principle, you can still put Minsk and Deekin as heroes. Around level 100, they have abilities that speed up the appearance of enemies at the level, which speeds up the passage. My maximum goal is to complete 50 levels in 15 minutes.
