After defeating the first boss, use the lift to access the next area. You should see an NPC frozen in ice. Talk to him. He will mention he's from the South area and would like you to go there. (If you keep talking to him he will become a vendor and you can purchase an extra healing charge, among other things).
Go to the South area and work your way to the boss room. You will have to defeat the Alien Commander twice to unlock this achievement. Both times you face him, there are enemies along the outer edge of the area. Try to take out all of the extra adds before engaging the boss. Similar to other bosses, attack and evade.
Save your spells/gunshots for when he enters his second phase. In this phase he can toss out a group of 3 mines and also use a boomerang attack. He typically does these back to back. You can use the mines to your advantage in some cases. Lure him close and dash away when they detonate to stun him briefly and get in a few attacks.
After progressing past the first fight you will eventually face him again. The fight is mostly the same although he now has a ranged laser attack that is fairly easy to dodge. You can also add a few more pieces to the floor of the arena by defeating the enemies along the outer edge and activating the buttons.
