Start up an endurance race in arcade mode.
select any car of you choice and start the race.
Then try and slow down before you hit the checkpoint with 1second one the clock .

I actually got this AFTER the race had completed and my car drifted through the checkpoint while the results were still on the screen.

Load up an endurance race, any car.
You need to hit the checkpoint when it says 0:00 on the screen, not 0:01.
More likely you will get this in gameplay further through the game, however you can stop about 2m in front of a checkpoint and accelerate forward when it says 0:00 time left.
Then let time run out, it usually pops when the run has finished.
