When playing a 2 player game, go to a save point and select Upgrade Cervul (or whatever it is you named him at the start of the game) and purchase the Pavise ability for 1000 gold. Continue playing and switch to him with

to equip your shield then press

This achievement isn't possible on a playthrough you used the Konami code to play as the Contra characters. Has to be done on a game started the normal way.

Is it 1,000 Gold or 1,000 EXP? I think it might be EXP. (I did the code for 99,999 Gold and couldn't buy any skills...then I realised my mistake!)
