How to unlock the Growing Stronger achievement in Injustice 2 - Definitive Guide

(This guide is an ‘updated’ version of my ‘Master of All Trades’ guide and slightly changed wording to fit this achievement).
Solution is now updated and includes the best method for the Legendary Edition update + Patch 1.19! The video below to go with the solution was made during Patch 1.05 but it still works.

First off, this achievement is inclusive of DLC characters. Unlike ‘Master of All Trades’ which is specific to non-DLC characters, this achievement can be obtained with any character in the game. Whoever is your highest level character is your best bet to get this achievement with. It’s the same amount of grinding as it took for Level 20, but this is also for those who are just getting a start!...

When the max level was 20 before, it took a total of 61’078 Character XP. Now, with those 10 extra levels, the grand total is 122’150 XP to reach level 30 (so, basically double). You earn more XP based on:
-Time Left on the clock
-Damage taken
-Enemy Level
Feel free to check the XP requirements for each level:

Fastest Method
2 Player Local Versus (Updated version)
-Set the Round Timer to 300 seconds in Gameplay Options
-Load up a 2 Player Local Versus Match (Multiplayer -> Versus)
-Sign in a second profile. This profile MUST have at least one Lv 30 character* on it!
-If you don’t have a Lv 30 character on a second profile, read on below..
-Profile 2 selects the Lv 30 character as the opponent. Make sure it’s gearless.
-(Optional) Gear up your character on your main profile, specializing in the STRENGTH stat
-In Match Options, turn Level Handicap ON
-Turn Arena Transitions OFF

Beat up the second profile as fast as you can getting Flawless wins. An easy way to do this for no effort is to do a 2 hit combo using Wall Bounces (back + Heavy) and/or Ground Bounces (forward + Heavy). If you Meter Burn the Ground Bounce/Wall Bounce, it’ll do more damage. ALSO, if your character has a trait that increases their damage (Superman & Bane are perfect examples) then use them!!

Using this method, you’ll get a character from Lv 1-30 in about an hour. You’ll notice as you level up the XP value starts to drop. This is because the Devs implemented a patch a while back (patch 1.05) that decreased the XP values for fighting lower level characters; before, you could just have a dummy profile and fight against Lv 1 characters and end matches super quick because they’re so weak. That patch made it so you get more XP for fighting stronger/equal level opponents. This is why having a Lv 30 character on a second profile and doing matches this way is the fastest way to level up.

I tested with a Lv 1 Poison Ivy on a fresh profile against a Lv 30 Superman on another profile and I was going through a match at around 38-40 seconds (loading times included). It took 29m 53s real time to get Poison Ivy to Lv 20, and another took 32m 25s for Lv 20-30. I was averaging 1300+ XP per match when I started (this value slowly drops over time to just over 1000+ XP per match). Use these values as an estimate to how long it will take you to get this achievement.

Some gear have Augments which can help you earn more XP:
-Expertise (Earn More Character XP per match)
-Pure Focus (Earn More Profile/Character XP per match)

*Question: What if I don’t have a Lv 30 character to use to help me level up??
The best workaround to this is to level up each profile’s characters together. What this means is if you are levelling up Superman (for example) from Lv 20 and your second profile also doesn’t have a high level character to boost off of, then you must level up the characters together. So, it’ll work like this, assuming your second profile is starting at the same character level as you:
-Profile 1 (you) will level up 4 times
-Profile 2 (second profile) will then level up 4 times.
This is because every 4 character levels or so in difference results in an XP dropoff. You earn more XP for fighting characters of an equal level or higher level than your own characters. If your opponent is 4 character levels below you, you’ll earn less XP. This effect is more noticeable when fighting opponents of a great difference in level.

If you have a second profile that has a Lv 20 character on it (like me) starting from the Legendary Edition update, then use that. I’ve been levelling up a character on my main profile 4 levels, then my second profile the next 4 levels, and so on until Lv 30... If you are doing this then just double the estimated times above (so a little over 2 hours to get both profile’s characters Lv 1-30, or a little over an hour for 20-30).

It should also be noted that fighting against a Lv 1 opponent that is ‘Equalized’ to Lv 20 via the ‘Level Handicap’ gameplay option is not the same! The Level Handicap option is only there for competitive reasons to equalize stats, NOT XP gain. So, in sum, fight against similar/higher levelled opponents for more XP. You should use the Level Handicap option only if you’re fighting someone stronger (A Lv 16 vs a Lv 30 is not going to be effective… the Level Handicap brings their stats to an equal playing field!).

Alternative Method
Single Player Fights vs AI
-Set the Round Timer to 300 seconds in Gameplay Options
-Load up Single Player Fight vs AI
-Select the character you want to level up
-When choosing the CPU, press Y to bring up the options and set the CPU level to level 30.
-Set their difficulty to Very Easy.
-In Match Options, turn Level Handicap ON.

Doing this method nets you anywhere from 500-1200 XP depending on how fast you win and how much damage you take. I recommend selecting an opponent that is fairly easy to rushdown and is slow.

Another Alternative Method
Online Private Versus 1v1
-Competitive Mode OFF. Throw on all your gear and have your partner stay gearless.

It’s been a while since I tested this so I don’t know the XP values you get but it’s also very good, just as good as 2 player local versus but it’s just 2 player local versus is faster (loading times/etc.).
Back when I tested in Patch 1.05, I was getting around 920+ XP per flawless win win.

Last Resort
Finally, you can do Endless Mode in the Battle Simulator located in the Multiverse. Set up an AI loadout and have it do the Endless run for you. I’ve never seen the AI earn less than 300 XP per win in over 100 fights. They mostly earn over 500 XP every match and can earn up to over 900 XP. Of course you can choose to play it yourself but you must know what you’re doing and the fights will get progressively harder for you to beat, whereas the AI can manage these fights much better.

Final Notes
AI Battle Simulator is not recommended. Low XP payouts with great chances of losing against crazy geared opponents is not desired!!

Happy Grinding!

Also, you can set the match to 1 round. I was getting around 700-800xp and was about 30-40 seconds each match and then just did rematch.

I’m not sure I understand. The best way to get a character to level 30 and get the achievement is to have a character that you’ve got to level 30 already and thus probably already got the achievement?

One thing that could help is to leave this achievement until after you've completed the story, your 100 multiverse events, and your 10 ranked/50 player matches. Use a character that you play as in the story, use that same character for all of your remaining multiverse events after you get your character endings, and also use it for any of your online achievements (ranked and player matches) and that should be enough to get you to at least level 20 without any dedicated level grinding. I'm personally working on this right now, and I took a liking to Black Canary. I haven't done any grinding yet, I haven't done my 50 player matches yet, I still have 60 more multiverse events to do, and BC is already level 20.

To get this trophy, you have to get a character to Level 30 but this shouldn't take too long if you use one of the characters you took to Level 20 when going for the . It will take roughly 4-6 hours to go from Level 20 to Level 30. One way of doing it, is to utilise a Level 20 character and use its AI loadouts within the multiverse.

Another way to do this relatively quickly is to go: Multiverse => Endless Battle => select a character, press and select their AI Loadout => Set the difficulty to Very Easy. When the game starts, watch the AI play - rinse and repeat until that character is at Level 30.

Tip:

By far the easiest way to do this, is by using two controllers and playing against yourself by setting Player 2 as your Alt account (that is if you have one) - it took me just over an hour to do it this way. Many people will have some high level Alt accounts from levelling the original roster to Level 20. Thanks to TiNnYzEuS for the tip.

The easiest, yet most mindless way to obtain this achievement is to pick a Level 20 character and use one of their AI Loadouts in within the "Multiverse."

Most players should already know how this grinding method is done, but here is a quick refresher:

  • Head into the "Multiverse"
  • Scroll over the the planet on the far right, "Endless Battle"
  • Scroll over the character you want to use and tap  four times to access/select their AI Loadout

From here, all you need to to is sit back and allow the AI to play out the matches. Chances are, at this point in time using a Level 20 character, you already have a strong AI Loadout, which means your character will win every single match.

The great thing about this method is that you only ever have to tap  after a match to move onto the next one. Other than that, there isn't much player involvement needed.

It will take anywhere from four or five (or more) hours to grind out a Level 20 character to Level 30. Once you have accomplished this, though, the achievement will unlock.

With the latest update 1.18, the trophy can be obtained without purchasing an add-on by leveling up any player
