How to unlock the Renewal achievement in Inscryption - Definitive Guide
Remember how New Game wasn't available when you first started the game, and you had to choose continue? Yeah, me too.
Upon beating the 4th boss while in possession of the Film Roll (gotten when going for the Reborn Hope achievement), you'll finally be able to go through that glowing door in the cabin. There you will find the New Game card!
After picking it up, you'll be trapped in a dark room that you can barely move around in. To proceed, you need to exit out of the game and back into the main menu*. You will now be able to select the New Game option and begin Act 2.
*I may or may not have taken ten minutes to figure this out...

You will be locked out of this function on the Start screen until you complete Act I. See Reborn Hope for full details to the final secret you need to uncover in order to get the true ending of Act I.
Once you are able to unlock New Game as an option on the Game Menu screen, you can start Act II.
Note about the choice you make at the beginning of Act II:
You will be asked to mark your ambition to replace one of four Scrybe's for a starting deck. Ultimately, this choice does not matter in regards to the overall story, but it will determine the playstyle of the majority of cards you will start out with in Act II. You will need to acquire 97 cards throughout Act II, so you will be able to use all four play styles at will, but getting a good footing at the start of the Act just may seem slow going based on which Scrybe you choose:

You will need to acquire 97 cards throughout Act II, so you will be able to use all four play styles at will, but getting a good footing at the start of the Act just may seem slow going based on which Scrybe you choose:
- Grimora, The Scrybe of the Dead, is based on the already established Bone currency and has an easy learning curve. Plenty of ways to acquire bones but not a lot of heavy hitting cards.
- Leshy, The Scrybe of the Beasts, is the one you are the most familiar with already and uses the blood sacrifice system. Without a squirrel deck you may find the way this style works a bit harder to start
- P03, The Scrybe of Technology, uses an energy based system that builds one cell each turn. Easiest system to understand in Act II, but limiting in the first few rounds of each fight, which gets tedious.
- Magnificus, The Scrybe of Magicks, uses a new gem system called Mox, There are three kinds of Mox and having the right colored gem to use a good card with isn't always an option when you start out a battle..
Again, your choice isn't locked in to one of these playstyles, as you will need to acquire all the cards and use many of them anyway. None of the card battles, including the boss battles, have a failure state that sends you back to the beginning of the Act or any other kind of penalty. You can simply restart any lost battle directly or leave the fight to find better cards, so there is a much greater amount of ease to Act II.
