How to unlock the Blood Artist achievement in Inscryption - Definitive Guide
This will automatically unlock after the end of your first run. Welcome to Inscryption!
When you lose, you will be prompted to select three random cards from your deck to create your Deathcard. They don't really make or break your next run but they can help if you get lucky enough.
The first card decides your Deathcard's cost, i.e., how much blood or bones it costs to activate the card. You want to choose the lowest cost available. Better yet, you can have no cost if you choose something like a pelt or a Geck (love that little guy!), since they require no cost to activate.
The second card decides the Deathcard's power and health, i.e., a Wolf card will grant you 3 power and 2 health. Special behaviors that alter power (such as an Ant card) is also copied.
The third and final card decides your Deathcard's sigils, i.e., Airborne from a flying card or Mighty Leap from a Bullfrog. If your card has multiple sigils, they will all be copied.
Finally, you will be prompted to name your Deathcard. This has no effect on gameplay whatsoever. You will then get a portrait taken for your Deathcard and the achievement will unlock immediately after.

This will likely be your first trophy and will come naturally due to how the tutorial mechanics are set up.
As you begin your time in Inscryption, you will be introduced to some of the game's rules and penalties for losing a hand. On your first loss, you will be asked to retrieve a candlestick. This stick has two candles and when the second candle is snuffed out, you will end your game and need to begin again from the beginning.
This can sneak up on you as every boss fight begins with your first candle being snuffed out, so every boss fight is a win or die situation. If you play too skillfully your first time through the game without making any mistakes or suffering any losses, your opponent will remark that you have been moving "Too Fast, Too Soon" and will cheat you out of a win with a nearly impossible set of cards to play against. They will likely do this move during a boss fight or consecutively in rounds until you lose completely. This is to show your opponent's true colors, but also to move you into your second playthrough which will complete the tutorial stages and introduce the rest of the game's mechanics, allowing for you to access much of the lore and rewards in Act I.
In the last moments of your first failed game, before you begin anew, your opponent will give you a chance to pick from your deck to choose the sacrifice amount, health, attack power and sigils to create your Deathcard which will be added to subsequent runs. This unfortunately is randomized so it can not be exploited in any dependable way, but if you happen to have low cost or no cost cards presented as your choices for the sacrifice amount, high health and/or attack power point cards show up for those traits, and a sigil or two that can really make your new card powerful or useful, you could end up developing a fairly powerful card or one that you could use more often in your subsequent runs. If nothing else, at least it is something you get to bring with you into the next run.
