How to unlock the Face to Face achievement in Inscryption - Definitive Guide

Phase one of this battle has you facing off against frogs and traps. Traps, when defeated, will instantly kill your card, but you'll get a wolf pelt into your hand. Frogs turn into traps. Otherwise the battle is fairly straight-forward, and you can fairly easily win with a normal strategy because his cards are fairly weak otherwise. However, you may want to hang onto those pelts in your hand because...

During phase 2 you can trade in your pelts for your opponent's cards, with which he will fill in his side of the board. If you don't trade a lot, you'll be facing those cards, so you may want to save 3 or more pelts in order to trade in and even up the battle.

The boss battle against The Trapper and The Trader is another unique fight, but easier than The Angler if you know what to do:

The first time you approach this fight, it will be quite close to the end of Act I. You should have had ample opportunities to build your deck up with powerful cards and have a large quantity to work with in battle, which is good because for this boss, you will want to lose as many cards as you can in the first round in order to get cards from your opponent to use against them.

The fight will start out with the Trapper putting a Strange Frog in slot 1 and 3 and a Leaping Trap in slot 4. In his second turn he will send a third Strange Frog down to Slot 2 followed by a few 1 or 2 attack powered cards like Bullfrogs and Adders. You will want to whittle The Trapper's health down a bit, but you will also want to attack the Strange Frogs so they become Leaping Traps, then allow your cards to be trapped by attacking the Traps in order to turn your cards into Pelts. Continue attacking the Trapper's cards until you can finish the round. If you can allow for four of your cards to be trapped early in the round, you will be best set up for round two, provided you don't use any of the pelts in the battle as defensive cards. You will get a final Pelt card at the end of the round.

By the time you clear the first round, you will hopefully have up to five pelts in your hand. The boss will flip to The Trader and he will layout eight cards on the board. You have the option to "buy" any of these cards using your newly acquired Pelts which will remove them from the board and put them in your hand. It is suggested that you buy out the middle line of cards and the strongest card in the back row if you can, then continue the second round battle using your cards and the ones you just purchased to win the fight. Much like the cards you can acquire during the Prospector fight from the Mule, you do NOT get to keep these cards in your deck after the fight to be used in the final battle, unfortunately.

Story related, can not be missed

This takes place in Act 1. The Trapper is the boss of the Snow Line. This is the third area that you have to complete.

Phase 1:
The Trapper starts out with two Strange Frogs (2/1 mighty leap sigil), and 1 Leaping Trap (0/1 mightly leap, steel trap sigils). He will then play either a Bullfrog (1/2 mightly leap sigil) or another Strange Frog. The trick with the Strange Frogs is that when they are defeated they turn into Leaping Traps. When the Leaping Trap is defeated it instantly kills whatever card is in front of them. If a Leaping Trap kills one of your cards you gain a Wolf Pelt (0/2). You can't fly over the Strange Frogs or the Leaping Traps. If you want to defeat them you need something with a bifurcated sigil like a Mantis (1/1 bifurcated sigil) that way they can be attacked without anything in front of them. Unless you have some really strong cards you will want to let the traps kill things off in order to get wolf pelts.

Phase 2:
After you beat the Trapper he switches to the Trader. The trader will offer you a variety of cards. You are able to take as many cards as you have wolf pelts. The Trader will always give you one wolf pelt so you can get something. Any card that you pick will be placed into your hand. Any cards you do not pick will be played for the Trader. Generally you want to take things that will be the most frustrating to fight. Things with airborne, bifurcated, touch of death. At this point you should have a very strong deck with a game plan so the Trader should not be much of a problem.
