How to unlock the There For You achievement in Insurgency: Sandstorm - Definitive Guide

***GOOD NEWS: this appears to be working now with the latest patch. I am not sure I will have time to update this with a proper guide, so hopefully some kind member will do so***

As of 10/6/2021 this appears to be glitched. I put in a bug ticket with the developer so we'll see what happens.

10/15 update - got the following response from the dev:

We appreciate you reporting this bug! Thankfully, the team is already aware of this issue and is working diligently to ensure that it's resolved for an upcoming hotfix. Nonetheless, I've forwarded your report to our QA department for further investigation.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out! We're always happy to help.

Might be stupid question as I know the achievement says call in 10 but has anyone tried calling in 10 in the same game session to see if that works?

1-30-22 chiming in here, still isn't fixed. I know I've called in way more than 10 at this point, and it still hasn't popped for me.

As of 10/02/22 this achievement should now be able to be unlocked as the 100 objectives is now being tracked by Xbox so if anyone can confirm as I’ve not been able to get friend/ random to help out with this

This can easily be done in co-op mode with a friend, but doing this with an unknowing random will also most likely be successful since it is a common gameplay mechanic.

The only pre-requirement is that you (and your buddy) are level 20, otherwise the needed roles are unavailable to spawn as.

Mechanics
The mechanic the achievement is referring to, is the interactivity between the roles of the Observer and Commander.
  • A Commander gives orders/requests to call in fire-support.
  • An Observer has the radio and makes sure the orders of the Commander reach the Command-center
The gameplay mechanic is that, for a Commander to call in fire-support, it needs an Observer nearby to pass on the commands to a Command-center. Without an Observer nearby the Commander cant order anything and is basically just like an ordinary Rifleman

There are two Observers and only one Commander allowed in a team, and if there is no Commander in the team, the Observer is also just like an ordinary Rifleman. (this is where your friend can come in and help. By spawning as a Commander and ordering support with the binoculars)

Task
All you have to do for this achievement is to spawn as an Observer and stay within 10 meters of the Commander, so whenever he orders something you can pass on the request.

Passing on the request happens automatically and you can hear your character repeating the Commander. You can view how many meters there are between you and the Commander at the left bottom of your HUD.

If a random Commander doesnt use his binoculars in a match to call in anything, you can try and suggest it by pressing cn_LB twice (the center text chat suggestion "Suggest fire-support")

*Has now been patched*

Unfortunately any calls ins you have already done are not counted retroactively.

I find personally that players are more likely to call FS down in the Push game mode (which is my favourite anyway). Make sure you choose Observer and just stick to your commander like glue. A good commander will regularly use FS so you should be getting at least 2-4 call ins a game.

Often, because lots of people don't communicate, you won't get other players choose Commander because normally players don't choose Observer and you obviously need both to direct fire support. In my experience going for this cheev, however, if I chose Observer, someone would normally redeploy as Commander once they'd seen my role.

Obviously simpler if you have a buddy you can play with.

Edit: what warranted a downvote on this solution? Whoever downvote has a tiny peepee.
