Do the tutorial mission, it's a bit weird to have a guy in a Helo talking about Hostiles while you shoot at range targets, but it's worth it.
You get unlock points for it and get used to the movement.
After that I highly recommend that you hit the shooting range, as you can get to know each weapon and even spawn an enemy team that actually fights back to get to know the weapons under battle conditions. (Yes if you're stupid they can kill you.)
And I'd high recommend that, given that all weapons have their individual strengths and weaknesses, and you need to find one that you are comfortable with.
The MP-7 has a very high firing rate for example, the MP-5 is very controllable, the AK is controllable but depending on model with pronounced recoil, the M-14 kicks like a mule! ;)
The MG-3 is pretty precise and fires fast, but churns through the standard drum in no time.
The shooting range is also open, so that are not limited to the spot your in and can move tactically against threats.
It allows you to build up the basic skill before going into your first match.
