How to unlock the Avid Reader achievement in Into the Pit - Definitive Guide
The journal pages are found at the end of each dungeon after defeating the boss.
However they have a small chance of spawning in some of the special rooms (Villager/Upgrade)
But they ALSO have a small chance of spawning in their very own room (The sign above the door is a candle surrounded by light)
You can find 34 throughout these dungeons with RNG however you will not find any after collecting 34, because the last two NEED to be picked up from the final dungeon.
Also Kalis'Ta posted this solution which will save a lot of time.
There’s an easy way to farm this. Once you find a respite room (Always on 2nd or 4th depth in my experience), enter the room, pick up the page and destroy the keystone. Wait for the score to appear on screen but don’t press A. Instead, quit and relaunch the game. The page will be saved, the achievement tracker will progress but the room will still be open, with a new page inside. You’ll still have to find the last two pages in the final dungeon, but it saves A LOT of time :)

The farm method in the guide worked perfectly for me. Seems everyone's differing experiences are due to this being something we are obviously not meant to do lol. However you get it to work for you, my favorite part is the farming of motes you get from the chest, so don't forget to open the chest before breaking the keystone because you keep those from every time you grab a new page. This trick can be helpful to fill your blood motes and enable Cheat Death.
This will also work for Chamber of Healing rooms. So if you are low health, you can heal at the pool, break the keystone, then dashboard quit after the game saves. Upon restarting, you can heal at the pool again, if needed. This can help greatly if used strategically - like if you are at Depth 4 with full health, clear all other chambers first so you can use the healing pool to fill your health before the boss fight.
I haven't tried, but I assume it will work for villagers as well. Just keep in mind there are only 3 per dungeon so you probably can't farm them all the way to 45. I'll test it next time I find a villager and update.
UPDATE: You CAN farm villagers with this method as well. I only tested it once because each dungeon has 3 villagers, and you free the third one after the boss fight. I didn't see a point in farming any more since I'd need to play through every dungeon anyways so just one dashboard quit to get a bonus villager and you clear the dungeon with 3/3 saved.
One last thing - if you are lucky enough to get a Blood Magic chamber and a Healing Pool chamber on the same depth floor, you can use the dashboard quit trick to really make yourself OP for the rest of that run. I had a lot of fun obliterating demons with maxed (level 5) buffs lol.

Tried this out from the pass, was really fun! Just to make a bit of clarification, if you're like me and didn't have all 34 pages BEFORE the final boss you will not get the achievement. Get the 34 pages FIRST(using the method above works well) before you do the final boss for the last 2.

Working as of 2021-10-26.
This is what worked for me and can be done as early as the first time you reach your very first boss room.
Run the The Obsidian Fort dungeon (whichever is easiest for you) until you reach the boss room, defeat the boss, collect the journal entry and exit to title screen. Load your save and you'll be outside the boss room, defeat the boss again and collect the journal page, now exit to title screen. Repeat this until you have 34/36 pages and then complete the final dungeon The Nightmare Abyss for the final two and you're done.

Thanks for this, worked like a charm for me after trying the other methods and failing.

Sadly looks like none of these work anymore. Game saves only after picking up reward in rooms or after destroying keystone after boss fight.

So that you don't get confused. There are 34 location sheets in the game, the last two are for the final boss. So first, collect 34 leaves, and then go to the final boss.
