How to unlock the Farnsworth Finisher achievement in Iron Brigade - Definitive Guide

This guide describes the fight and what to use to get solo gold. The gold requirement is 200 sec (3 min, 20 sec) or better. A summary of the the fight is: If a part of the boss glows orange, shoot it.

Edit: This guide is based on using snipers because I originally thought (incorrectly) that Vlad was out-of-range for machine guns. However, you can get solo gold with six Scythes. The machine guns may feel slower, but my best solo times are about the same with each loadout.

Equipment

Trench: Karlsson. Any mark; any legs.

Weapons: Gungnir, Fighting Wolverine, and The Scythe. The Gungnir is powerful but has a long reload. A second sniper is good for finishing shots in the third phase. A machine gun or shotgun will help with trash between phases.

Emplacements: Massive Machine Gun Turret. A machine gun seems to be the best all-around weapon against the variety of trash tubes you will face. There will be small amounts of fliers, resistors, and knobs.

The Fight
It's a three phase fight against a "jellyfish" boss. To setup, stay near the spawn point. Drop one machine gun to your left and one to the right. During the fight, try to keep several guns around you, but don't worry about upgrades. These are less important than taking shots at the boss. However, they will keep trash out of your line of sight, so build new ones when you can.

Phase One: After placing your first guns, step forward to start the fight. The top of the dome is above the water, and there is a shielded antenna array on it. The shield will drop when Vlad is about to fire energy to charge an antenna on the beach. The array is exposed when you see the orange glow. The mission timer starts after the cutscene, so you should be able to one-shot this array with the Gungnir around the 5 sec mark.

Phase Two: The second tier of the dome is exposed, and there are three shielded arrays. They will randomly activate. Destroy each one like the first phase array. Try to one-shot each with the Gungnir as soon as the shields drop, and you should finish around the 1 min mark. For gold, there is very little margin for error.

Phase Three: The entire body is raised out of the water, and there are three large, blue clusters beneath it. Occasionally, one will drop lower and glow orange. When a cluster drops, shoot it. It will take a direct Gungnir hit plus a few more shots to destroy each one. The fight will end when you have destroyed all three clusters, and a good time will be around 3 min.

Gold can require some luck and patience. Sometimes critical parts activate before the Gungnir reloads which means you will miss a chance for a high damage shot. Also, one missed Gungnir shot will usually ruin a gold time, but there should be plenty of time for silver. See edit note at the top. You may find machine guns more forgiving of errors.

I can consistently kill him solo in 3 minutes (20 seconds under gold cutoff) with two Wolverines and two Scythes, a massive machine gun turret, and an (advanced?) scrap collector support turret. As you suggest, I drop a machine gun on either side, then initiate the first cutscene. Defeating the first phase is ridiculously easy and sends scrap all over, which I collect and use to drop a scrap collector turret to the left and to the right and prepare for phase two. Standing in the center, I'm ready to blast any of the three weak points or back up out of the way of his slow sweeping blast. Immediately after phase two, a group of knobs is released from each enemy spawn, so I try to get a 2nd machine gun at each side before this. I continue to stand in the center for phase three and blast his weak points immediately.

Good guide.
I did this in 3 minutes and 2 seconds on my 2nd try.
Used the Fighting wolverine and Ripper on 1 side, and the Gungnir on the other.
I stayed near the spawn point the whole time (except when the lightning charge happens).
I planted a few massive machine gun turrets to shoot the little guys.
And I docked near the rocks in front of the spawn point (with fortify/quickload).

As soon as you see something glow orange, shoot it with the Gungnir, then a few times with the wolverine (just for good measure).
I even missed with the Gungnir on the first phase, and I still got it!

Way easier than the first boss!

If you're playing 4 player, if you fail to kill a glowing item the first time it's available to you, you will fail. We just tried a few times, and when we killed each thing first time we got 320 seconds on the dot.

I don't have a specific location, but the Gungnir drops in the second campaign (Africa).

Any idea where the Gungnir loot boxes drop? I've got gold on everything but Farnsworth and am mopping up challenges waiting for a Gungnir to take on a solo run at him, but I just can't seem to find one.

This video show's how easy he is especially with a friend simply hug your repair turret and shoot down his units that he only ever sends in groups of 3 at most from either side.

I did this with a friend and we killed him quite easily despite him taking forever to expose his weak points at times.

I did notice this was alot harder when we did it again later with 3 people so I think 2 maybe the better choice or simply go it alone.

Bring plenty of flak, sniper cannons and at least 1 machine gun for any random land troops.

Enjoy the vid.
