How to unlock the Behind The Mask achievement in Iron Crypticle - Definitive Guide
The Phantom is to be the boss of floor 6 in New Game +. To unlock New Game + you first need to beat New Game, which consists of 4 randomized floors. The good news is that you can do all of this on the Easy difficulty, which provides more time per floor before Goblins come to kill you, as well as far more frequent hearts to refill your health.
This fight itself was pretty tough. The boss has 2 phases as far as I could tell:
- He starts off with some basic quick fireball attacks sent in your general direction, not too tough to dodge
- During this time he occasionally stops for a few seconds and then radiates small fast fireballs all around him. A bit harder to dodge but not too bad.
- Occasionally during the entire fight he'll spawn small things on the floor which are stationary but will damage you.
After you do 75% of his health he'll start phase 2, where he has 2 new attacks
- Spawning 4 or 5 small grubs to chase you. Easily dodged or killed.
- Sending his fists out. As long as you are moving in a circular motion around him they aren't too hard to doge. I didn't take any damage in phase 2 after getting hit by 3 or 4 fireballs in phase one.
Here is someone else's video of this fight for reference:
My general strategy for this game:
- Play on Easy! The game is hard enough as it is.
- If you don't have the floor map, move to rooms that have multiple exits as you get to 'scout' rooms you are directly connected to. Ideally you find a map early each floor, but its entirely random.
- Always hit the Arcade Rooms (looks like a joystick and 2 buttons). They cost 10 coins to enter, but can easily provide 50+ coins and even if you lose its a free room without the possibility of health loss.
- Always aim for stores. Once there purchase stat increases whenever possible. Ignore other things unless you really need a health refill. I never bought gems or gauntlets personally.
- Try to avoid special rooms (mud pits, cemetary, and catacombs) unless you need the associated achievements. They are dark and easy to mess up in.
- Try to focus on killing ranged enemies when possible. They can ruin your day.
- Kill first, collect second. On easy you'll get plenty of food to stack x8 bonuses along the way. The only possible exception is stat upgrades. You really don't want to miss those as they are limited and highly beneficial.
Beyond that the only thing that really will help is playing the game and learning all the boss/enemy patterns. Good luck!

He has a lot of health but I managed to kill him on my first attempt.

You unlock weapons randomly while playing the game. I'm pretty sure you have to beat at least one boss to have a chance to permanently get new weapon unlocks, though it doesn't seem to occur 100% of the time.

The Phantom resides at the end of Floor 6. To get to it you need to beat the game and then start on New Game+.
Getting to him can be a little challenging. Beating him is a fair bit tougher.
My general tactic was to keep my food combo up. Points = XP = more hit points. Play risky. Grab that food and get those x8 bonuses.
On the map, I focus on the arcade machine stages to earn coins. And I focus on the shops. At the shop don't buy BONUS tiles or rainbow gems. Spend it all on upgrades. Lots of speed is required to beat The Phantom.
Try to get to him with full health. Iron Fists aren't any use against him really. They do a little damage but they put you in lots of danger.
The fight has three phases. The last is the easiest to read. The first two: just circle and shoot. Grab those weapon powerups. The scroll that slows time or gives a guardian are helpful. The others less so.

New Game+ achievement
Story-related; cannot be missed.
The Phantom is the boss of the sixth and final floor. I've heard people describe this boss as tough, but honestly I didn't see any difference between this boss and Gnasher or Hexapod. It just moves around and shoots every so often. Just keep your distance, keep firing at it, and focus entirely on dodging projectiles. Nothing here is harder than any of the other bosses you've fought. Just don't be greedy or reckless, and keep moving in a circle around him, and you shouldn't even really need to use dash at all. He turns into a separate phase of sorts when his health gets low, and he'll start shooting his hands out at you, but again just do circles around him and his hands won't even come close to hitting you.
