The first lock I reached was in Old Hot Spring Mine as part of the story. I first had to obtain a cube and once I had picked it up, the next step was to unlock a door. This story talks about "manipulating the facets of the Cube, you may be able to release the lock...". At this point I quit out and backed up my save, then loaded the game and it started back at this point.
Upon doing the lock though, I realised the first one is designed to be easy. It gives you a tutorial explaining what to do. After the tutorial, you have time to plan it out, so no need to rush. All I did was hold
to see the space I needed to place it in, then find 1 piece that was off that size and pulled it out. This unlocked the door and the trophy.
If you pick the wrong piece, then you can work out the correct one and reload your save to get it right first time. Or wait for another cube puzzle to come along.
