Collect 5 fuel tanks and leave the planet BEFORE defeating the final boss. You'll need to reach at least the third map to be able to collect 5.
And while it counts as the bad ending it has 0 negative consequences. Once the cheevo popped and the cutscene stops playing you go back to the main menu and can simply continue as if nothing happened and still finish the game to 100% completion and get the actual ending.
