How to unlock the Challenger achievement in JUMP FORCE - Definitive Guide
EDITED ON 8/28/2022: Spike Chunsoft has shut down the servers, but only removed the ability to play ranked and challenge other players. You can still play quick matches and invite other players to fights.
They also changed the unlock requirements for 2 achievements so that you can still unlock them. This is one of the achievements that got updated.
The new requirements are now to fight invited friends 10 times.
If not too much has changed this should be as simple as going to the battle counter, sending an invite to your friend, and fighting the same friend 10 times.
EDITED ON 12/25/21: Realized I probably should write that Jump Force currently is scheduled to have its online servers shut down on 8/24/22and that this and all the other online achievements will no longer be available after that day.
Also Jump Force is scheduled to be delisted from the digital store on 2/7/22, if you have already bought it digitally then you should be able to reinstall it even after it is delisted.
This achievement is a pain.
While playing online you'll see the avatars of other players, they will have their name in white text over their heads like yours instead of in blue text like NPC's.
To challenge them you have to press when your arrow is over them and then again to issue a challenge.
Simply sending the challenge isn't enough though, you have to fight them, win or lose it counts as progress. If the fight gets disconnected it is invalid and won't show on the battle log.
Sounds pretty simple right? So then, why is this achievement a pain?
Because you don't know if they accepted your challenge or not!
You'll pick your team, select your choice of map, and wait. And you won't know if you're fighting until about 3-4 min later if they show up as your opponent.
To make it worse I'm convinced that if they do decline your challenge the game won't tell you. I base this solely off the fact that I once waited about 25 minutes for a guy and never got kicked from the matchmaking screen.
So yeah, TLDR: Find a player's avatar, press x twice, pick your team, then wait for about 5 minutes. If they show, great. If they don't show find someone else. Fight 10 times and then you get the achievement.
Tips:
1. Don't just go to the first group of avatars that you see, I've noticed that when you log in the first group of avatars are on a mission of some kind, most (if not all of them) will stand still after you load them and won't move for a while.
2. In the same vein of advice, try to ignore the avatars in the area with Director Clover, the ones in front battle counters in the center, and the ones in front of all 4 of the mission counters. Chances are that the person you challenged is busy and the game won't tell you.
3. These fights use your player levels, this is a feature that's turned off in ranked and that you can turn off in player matches but in challenges they can't be turned off, so don't feel bad if you lose to a higher level character they just have higher numbers than you.
4. While you can pick any team, I recommend playing as different people each time. Why? because titles. If you don't care, just use your OC and your top 2. but if you use 30 different fighters that's 1 title for just playing as each character in an online match. So that's 30 titles out of 50 for the title achievement.
5. Have something to do to pass the time. If you have a friend, ignore this tip. But attempting this solo with the current waiting/loading times you're looking at 50 minutes of wait time easy for this achievement if all of your challenges are accepted. For reference, it took me about 11 hours to unlock the achievement.
6. While the achievement tracker is (as of writing this) broken at 1% if you have any progress toward the achievement, you can keep track of your fights. By pressing and going to communication, then to battle log. They have both time and date so you can keep track of yourself if you want to.
Edit 2/22/19: Thanks to Snowhunterx91 for first bringing it to my attention. It does not have to be 10 unique people, so if after a match if both of you are still in the same lobby try to challenge them again.
Edit 2/25/19: Based on Wilddude 11's comment you have to be the challenger, so if you and a friend are in the same hub world then you have to do 20 matches.
Will mention here, that I don't know how the friend system works in this game so I don't know how to force your friend in your hub world. I'm assuming 'start > communications > friends' but that's just a guess on my part.

I would also like to confirm challenging the same person works. My friend and I found each other. I challenged him 10 times and it popped for me. He challenged me 10 times and got it right after.

Do we know if rematches count?

You just need to “Challenge” a fight; the attempt is counted towards the person who made the request for the fight. When doing with a friend, you just need to call one by one. A total of 20 fights for two. I didn’t check if the rematch counts.

I tested it specially. You only need to do it in the following way, or rather, make the call exactly like this. Approach the character and click further down will be "challenge" on . When entering a battle, immediately give up and offer revenge. Takes 8 minutes and the trophy drops if you do the challenge correctly!

You can simply challenge one person, and then offer revenge until you receive the trophy. Retrieved 01/22/22
