How to unlock the I Believe I Can Fly achievement in Just Cause 2 - Definitive Guide

The best way to do this is to take a helicopter to the "Mile High Club" near X: 29584 Y: 11435 on your map. Set that for your waypoint and you'll see a nightclub with a pair of blimps on it. In order to get this achievement, land ON TOP OF THE BLIMPS, not the actual nightclub, with your helicopter. Then just walk over to the edge and jump off. You'll see the meters tick off as you fall and then when you see "1000 meter base jump" pull your parachute and land safely either in the water or the nearby islands.

Hmmm, i did the hot air balloon way and I reached 1100 meters and i still didnt get the achievement. Do you need 2 use the parchute right after or no? Gonna try the blimp now.

Yeah you have to reach the 1000 meter mark and then pull your chute and land safely.

doesn't work, walked off, and nothing happened. It didn't say how far I base jumped.

Totally worked. Got a slight running start, jumped off and poof: Achievement! Thanks for the solution.

@Brumak - same here, I ran and jumped off the blimp and there wasn't any meter-count ticker, just the prompt to hit A to open my parachute. I waited til the last second to pull it and landed fine - but no achievement

For those frustrated that this isn't working, it took me three goes to get it to clock it as a base jump. It worked for me when I grappled up to the fins at the back and jumped off there, rather than the body of the blimp (even though that seems like it might be higher).

The fall from the fin on the back of the blimp is about 1100 meters in total, so you don't have long at terminal velocity to pull your chute after falling for a kilometer.

Faster than flying a helicopter yourself, you can call the black market and Air Sheldon will drop you off above the blimps.

Worked for me the second attempt. The only difference in the two jumps: 1) I had the waypoint set nearby; 2) I attempted to jump off the front of the blimp, not the highest fin in the back.

Just be sure to save once you set down or are nearby, and you should get it to pop rather quickly.

Thanks for the help!

The easiest way, in my opinion, is to jump from the top of the Mile High Club blimp. The club is located in the eastern part of the map and can be seen from far. As you fall I suggest using the indicator that will show next to the minimap in order to track the distance you have fallen. Open the parachute shortly after hitting the thousand marker and you should get the achievement.

Steve0384 made a nice video showing how this is done.

did not work. there was no indication that the game even recognized that it was a base jump.

What exactly did you do? I can guarantee that it works since I did it that way! Was there no fall counter? did you hit something on the way down?

Try to open the parachute as late as you can. I doubt the sources that report not needing to survive are correct.

To base jump for over 4000 meters, simply get the hot air balloon (location in video) and fly as high as you can by hitting the Y button over and over again. You can set a marker at the Mile High Club as a way to see how high you are. Once you are as high as you can get, grapple up to the top of the balloon then JUMP off of it. You should fall anywhere from 4-6 thousand meters.

One way that this 1000m base jump achievement can be attained is by using the relatively secret Hot Air Balloon.

The Hot Air Balloon is located at the coordinates X:7392, Y:16,151, just to the south east of the Panau Capital City. All you have to do is shoot the sandbags off and you're ready to go. If you want to steer, you can simply by walking around in the basket.

You can fly the Hot Air Balloon up to 1000m, and far beyond it. You can go higher than any land point in the game, until you hit the top of the sky. Whenever you jump out, your base jump begins.

Found an easy way to get a couple of 1000 meters base jump!

(might be a glitch)

Here's exactly what I did:
Got on top of a 747 that was taking off from the International Airport (9749, 12798), hi-jacked it in midair, flew up into the sky, pressed B to jump on top of the plane, then planted some C4 on top of the 747, pressed A to parachute, then detonated the bombs, released my parachute for a freefall, and it started counting the meters! I did a 1300 meter base jump this way.

Those are the exact steps, incase something I did made it glitch and count as a basejump!

Maybe you can go higher, I'm about to try it!

I did this one by base jumping from the miles high club.
The floating club in the air.

When you go past 1000 meter (You will see it on the top left corner) open your parachute and land safely.

To perform a base jump you need to be standing near the edge of something and jump off. You need to make sure you are at a high enough point and make sure there is nothing below you that you can land on and die.

There are probably a number of different places to do this but the most common is located at the mile high club, its co-ordinates are; X: 29584 Y: 11435. You need to stand on one of the two blimps & jump off. Make sure you actually press to jump off, DON’T JUST RUN STRAIGHT OFF OF THE EDGE. For every 50 meters you fall you will see a notification at the top of the screen you need to wait until you see it show 1000 meters.

At the eastern side of the map, above a collection of smaller islands, you'll notice a double zeppelin. Work your way to the top of the zeppelins by grappling and jump down from its rear wing. You need to push to jump off, if you let yourself fall, the base jump will not trigger. Open you parachute when you pass the 1000 mark (displayed to the right of your mini-map) or alternatively, fall to your death at the 1150 mark. Both will unlock the achievement.

Note: Once you discovered the Mile High Club, you can extract to its location through the Black Market dealer, in case you failed to get the achievement.

The only place where you can get the trophy is the Mile High Club located at coordinate X: 29584m Y: 11435 (you need a plane or helicopter to get there).

I will add that you need to jump off by pressing the appropriate button, and not get off.

Not far from Panau City, at coordinates X:7328; Y:16081, there is a hot air balloon hidden in the valley. Cut off the ballast, climb into the basket and press triangle. You can rise very high and the jump from the basket will be counted as a base jump. The only problem is that the rise is very slow and you need to constantly press triangle. For me personally, it was enough to climb ~5600 meters (it took an hour and a half to climb), from which the entire archipelago is visible at a glance. When you base jump over 3000 meters, you will receive a secret message from the developers that you were able to break their record.
